Ridge Ryder 45 Watt Solar Blanket Half Price $99, Free Delivery, Supercheap Auto

150

Long time lurker, first time poster. Go easy!

Spent hours online looking for deals on solar panels getting ready for summer camping.

Found these Ridge Ryder solar blankets (they are a clearance item).

Quality looks good, panels are poly crystalline. The regulator is questionable. The store told me they were updated a few months ago due to some issues.

They sell a 10 amp regulator in store for $20 though which is the new model.

They come with a joiner so you can link 2 or 3 sets together with the bullet connector though i would recommend upgrading the 7 amp regulator before trying that.

Many uses and very handy. Free shipping through the online store or going in store they will price match the online price. Compact and lightweight and I've always had good experiences with Super Cheap Auto in store with warranty.

  • That's a good price if you have a need for a 45w panel (although 2 for 90W would be good), as OP suggested the controllers are best replaced with something better.

Their website appears to be buggy for me …
Here is their ebay url http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ridge-Ryder-Solar-Blanket-45-Watt…

The SCA site crapped out and now it's coming up as sold out.

I'm planning on linking the 3 I bought together using Anderson plugs and will run it through a victron energy True mppt 75/15 regulator (can't speak highly enough of these) and use 6mm twin cable for leads. It then becomes a high quality 135 watt set up for under $450 total. Will fit nicely on the vehicle windscreen and keep the car batteries maintained when it's parked up which it usually is!

@toasty maybe you can go in store and price match like I did if you have one local..

  • How does this compare in quality to BlitzWolf® 20W 3A BW-L1 Foldable Portable Sun for $55.95?
The BlitzWolf has the advantage of having USB ports.

Blitzwolf is 20w vs this is 45w. This is aimed at charging 12v(auto) batteries whilst the blitzwolf looks aimed at charging phone batteries (3.7v)

So BlitzWolf would be better for Mobile Phone charging?

        • +1

It all you want to do is charge phone batteries the the blitzwolf is more suitable.

The blitz wolf looks very nice. It's 5v only. Good for long distance hiking/ travel etc. I have a 10 watt instapark mercury pack that is very similar for multi day hikes.

The bang good solar panel is not suitable for recharging 12v deep cycle batteries to run fridges etc out camping. I suspect the output to the 5v regulator is around 9 to 10v on the blitz wolf / instapark.

When you have a 12v battery set up connected you can then use any car usb charger (or multiple of them) or run an inverter for 240v output for laptops etc or run 12v camping gear (TV, fan, led lights)

    Hope that helps.
