What's Your Experience with GearBest?

Just curious as to other ozbargainers experiences with gearbest….. I've seen a lot of posts come up lately stating extremely long shipping times and some "cheap" packages that never even turned up.. I thought it might just be a few unrelated cases until I myself had issues too..

This isn't a post trying to push any agenda, just an honest question of the service and shipping you've experienced when using gearbest.

For me, shipping times is similar to anything that I buy that originates from China, about a month. Haven't had any issues with them yet, stuff turned up 12/12 times.

    • +1

Touch wood I’ve never had a problem either.
I’ve ordered probably 20 items, ranging from $1 to maybe $60. All legit as far as I’m aware.
Lately I’ve paid extra (2-5$) for priority shipping and have been very surprised at the speed.

In saying that, I’ve also used Banggood a few times successfully, as well as priority shipping on AE with no hassle. Perhaps lucky.
I’ve always felt at ease with PayPal (vs Alipay) but maybe I’m misled…. a couple of more expensive items I’ve paid a little more and gone through eBay (one time I did claim a refund for a DOA).

Last purchase that was bigger (over 200) I opted for shopmonk. I’ll let you know how that goes lol.

    • Some of those fidget spinners arrived remarkably quick for me.

  • +1

Expect up to a month for most items. I've never paid for their express shipping or anything like that though so can't comment on that but i have received everything I've purchased from them

  • +19

Never again… paid for for the expensive shipping as it still was cheaper than other options in my country… I got the DHL tracking, but DHL never got the package…Gearbest kept asking me to wait.. After 3 weeks waiting for the tracking number to show any change, PayPal gave me a refund 🙂 Gearbest wasn't pleased.

    • +3

Similar experience here. they were a bit dodgy trying to ask me to wait until ebay refund expired

    • Same here, ordered earphones got a smartphone case. After the paypal claim Paypal asked me to sent the item back by online trackable postage which will cost me more than the item. After disputing it on social media paypal returned me the money.

Wow… maybe the xiaomi watch I purchased from them is fake.. would explain why it's defective on arrival (wasn't going to bring up my experience with them, but after seeing this comment you've got me wondering…)

      • +2

things arent looking good. After I made a forum post as a PSA to check your Xiaomi products it was removed by hamza. Its as if we should accept fakes when we pay for the real thing :(

        • ENZA, Your post was removed to consolidate your numerous comments and posts over the past 48 hours. You wrote 3 forum posts about Gearbest issues (merged into 1), 5 posts about GB related issues to moderators and 35 comments in 13 different deals.

Take all your complaints about Gearbest and keep them in your thread.

In an effort to stem conspiracy theories and provide a positive and respectful community, we made this post. Further, OzBargain is NOT affiliated with Gearbest nor do they pay us for posts or any other bullshit. Have questions? Please ask.

          @neil: Hi Neil

I appreciate you looking into the situation. My main request would be for a PSA to be made so that users can check if they have received genuine xiaomi from all sellers not just gearbest. I started with an inital comment about it but a few users have come to find that they have fakes. That comment is hidden in a thread where most wouldnt see. Is there a way to have a more visible notice so that users can be made aware of counterfeit xiaomi? I just dont want to see people get ripped off and companies who only care about their bottom line get away with it.

          Thanks

          @neil:

          Have questions? Please ask.

Im not going to hide it in there. That discusses a different issue. My question is do you aim to somehow alert users that there a reports of fake xiaomi products from gearbest and that users should check to make sure they got the real deal?

        • @ENZA DENINO:

Edit your post and add the other issue. Spamming the comments of every deal (both Gearbest and non-GB related deals) is not the way to do it. Please continue this conversation (if needed) in TWAM or your other thread.

Spamming someone else's forum thread to harass a user about keeping to his own forum thread.

          Irony?

          @neil:

sigh you really missed my point, which was just the simple irony that you hijacked someones thread to comment about hijacking threads. if you ever wanted an example of what looks like aggressive moderation…

Anyway I have zero understanding of DisabledUser122364's history with you or the aforementioned brand, and am simply a bystander, but the way some moderation comes across sometimes I think only provokes that sort of reaction "the mods are out to get me/them/whoever"

          Anyway, peace out.

        • +1

@neil: Sorry Neil, but thats how OZB community have been working in the past. People with negative review of the store will continuously raise their voice. If that needs to be limited to the user's thread, most of the users will miss it.
I dont see a reason, why it is bad to put a negative in other threads TBH.

        • @Gaggy:

Users are always welcome to negatively review companies, negative vote companies or make a forum post/comment about their experiences. This hasn't changed.

Good to know. They smelt a little too good to be good.

    • +14

thanks for this, just found out my xiaomi headphones are fake :(

      • +30

glad you found out sooner rather than later. Everytime I bring up the issue of gearbest selling fakes I get negged until my comment is hidden.

        • +7

I bought some Pistons last year from them. They sound like $2 shop headphones. I never understood why people here liked them, but now it makes senses, I probably got fakes. They didn't have a QR code and if I move the cable while I'm using them, the sound cuts out.

I just figured "Some people on ozbargain must like these because they've never heard a good set of headphones". Glad I know better now lol.

        • @idonotknowwhy: I think mine sound terrible too (Hybrid Pros) and I've checked mine against some of the links above and they seem to be genuine. They might be overrated, I came across reports on reddit saying they don't publish 1 star reviews either, which is a worry

        • @idonotknowwhy:

Hi idonotknowwhy, could you pls pm me your order number for checking?

      • +2

I also got counterfeit headphones… I'm a bit annoyed. I'll message the rep and see what I get back from them.

        • Hi j05h,my colleague have arranged refund for you,pls check it within your account.

        • @gearbest: Thanks so much for your help, much appreciated :)

      • +2

Yep just checked mine against the link above and i got 2 fakes in the last 6 weeks…..so annoyed!

        • +2

the recent aud$17 / usd$13 deal.. are fakes

the aud$23 / usd$17, back in August are still genuine

        • Hi,Have you got reply from my colleague, they shall able help you with a good solutions.

      • HiiTiTeFish, could you pls pm me your order number for checking?

    • +1

I think for now it applies to the headphones that they sell. Apparently same issue with Banggood.

EDIT: I'm not saying that Xiaomi is not selling fakes (sometimes they seem to be too good on some products) but it could also be the people from which gearbest is buying. Either way Gearbest will see this and will do something, or customers are gonna turn away from their business.

      • +1

since both gearbest & banggood also affected, could be xiaomi QC problem on dodgy subcontract job.

i'd have thought they source all xiaomi products direct from xiaomi, without 3rd party supplier ?

Can you fix you unsubscribe link in all your unsolicited spam messages too please? It's been broken for at least 3 and a half years!

        • Hello drewbles, what your meaning? could you pls explain details?

        • +2

          @gearbest:
All your emails you send out (that I never actually asked for nor permitted you to send me) have an unsubscribe link that goes to a broken website!

There's a lot of people here complaining about it, and it's been broken since 2013/2014 that I know of!

        • @drewbles:

Could you pls forward that email to me one for checking?thanks.

        • +2

I too had this problem, however I fixed it by going here:
          http://edm.gearbest.com/
I no longer get spam. :)

        • +2

@gearbest: you just need to ask your marketing team to update the unsubscribe link in the weekly promos email with the one in the below post because the current one (http://e3ai.gearbest.com) is broken.

    • Thanks for this info. Mine arrived recently and I was underwhelmed by the quality, sounded like $2 earphones. I threw away the QR tag, didn't realise it could be used for checking authenticity!

      • Hi Scepticpsych, could you pls send me your order number for checking?

        • I have sent you a message

    • Would you have the link on how to scan the QR code? Can't find it anywhere

      • it should be on the xiaomi website but i think its in chinese. see xooms comment

      • For the headphones you should just be able to use any QRcode reader. I checked mine this way and all are genuine.
I ordered some hybrid pros 21/11/16 and 2 x hybrid IV 22/07/17 from Gearbest.

    • What about these:
      https://www.gearbest.com/earbud-headphones/pp_603274.html?wi…

Is there fakes of that model going around as well? I got some recently and they feel well made but they are probably the worse sound ear phones I have ever tried. Terribly flat, sounds like I am listing to music from a next door party.

  • I've used their 'Priority/ Aus Express' shipping twice in recent months. Both times it shipped within a day and tracked ok. One item took 8 days to arrive (China to Sydney), the other 12 days. Currently still waiting for my 3D puzzles, that is with free shipping. Took 2 weeks just to ship out.

  • +7

Most of my packages from them have been absolutely squashed.

  • I just received my powerbank from this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/332512

Seems fine, but I have no idea if it is fake or not, there is a hologram sticker with a scratch it thingy on the box, but I can't read Chinese + I don't want to scratch it :/

    • I had to ask a chinese colleague to check my powerbank sticker number on the website.

    • Use Google Translate on your phone, it has a camera option where you just view the text through the camera and it will translate it in realtime. I used this heaps while in Europe, worked a treat.

      • Yeah I've used it before for Japanese and French, but just tried now and it doesn't seem to pickup the characters on the box for some reason.

      • +1

Except the xiaomi verifier website has a chinese version of captcha where you have to type the chinese characters it shows you.

Note. There is an english version of the site but the page wont load properly.

    • +1

      https://www.techmesto.com/identify-fake-xiaomi-power-bank/

I checked it with this link and it seems genuine so far (even has the engraving on the usbs).

      • +1

        Thanks, will take a look!

    • +1

The site to check powerbanks is here in English: http://www.mi.com/verify/#secur_en

Checked mine (you need to scratch it off, just do it) and it came back with "This is an authentic product. This is the first time this security code has been queried."

  • +1

Honestly, I've purchased several chi-fi earphones/headphones (price range from $15-60) from them and I'm pretty happy with them. One of those times the earphones were faulty and they refunded me the order straight away after showing some proof. I've never purchased a Xiaomi product from them so I can't comment on the authenticity issue.

Also, they have very cheap Priority Shipping to Australia (like $1-$2 or free for orders over $40) which can be stacked with other items on the same order (e.g. if you've got free priority shipping, everything else gets free priority). This stuff comes in 7-8 days.

I prefer them over AliExpress (if it's the same item) because they're easier to deal with when it comes to post-sales and they come quicker.

  • +1

have puchased from them on 3 occasions in the past 6 months or so. (miband, the xaiomi robo vac, and headphones) - all arrived within 2 -3 weeks and had no issues with postage/packaging or item quality (the cheap headphones didn't last that long - but cheap headphones never do). I ordered from them again yesterday so will see how it goes (hope its no different to my last orders)

Had more of an issue with cash rewards not tracking my purchases than with GB.

  • +1

    extremely long shipping times

Prices seem okay, but this put me off so much, the shipping times take ages for the few things I've bought. So much so, I'd probably pay the extra and not wait the full month or more it takes to arrive.

Other then that though, they mostly all do arrive, products are as expected. I think it would work better as more of a, "oh thats kool, I'll buy it and whenever it arrives it will be more of a fun thing to check out" as opposed to something that I actually want at some point within the next month or two.

  • I used priority line shipping for my last order and got my package in 5 days after it shipped.

  • Postage is slow (4 weeks average, some of the really cheap deals take up to 6 weeks) but the products always arrive eventually.

My only fear with GearBest is their returns process. I really want to buy a ~$1000 Xiaomi Air laptop, but am not comfortable dealing with their support team if I encounter any faults. Plus they make you pay return postage which is not cheap (Paypal could help here I assume)

    • +3

Just had to return a quadcopter to them, they say they'll refund my money I paid on postage once it arrives and send out a new unit. However, this was after I had to push their own refund policy in their face after a ridiculous offer of a 20% refund.

  • +2

With all you guys shipping usually 4 to 5 weeks. Its cheap enough so im willing to wait.

  • +4

Slow shipping but all packages will turn up eventually. Feels like a christmas surprise.

    • I've only bought once and it never came. Was one of the 1 cent items so I CBF ever chasing it up lol

      • +8

It was 1 cent, maybe they CBF sending.

      • +2

Is that the credit card sized LED? I never got that one as well :)

They must be making heaps of profit out of that item.

        • I had got it, could very well be auspost losing it lbh

  • +1

I have only had 2 transactions with them, but have had no problems at all. Items arrived in good condition and on time. I chose AU Express one time and it came within the time frame.

  • stuff has always arrived. I generally order from BG, but "slow mail" shipping times are somewhat similar. I try and order priority.

  • i buy some vape stuff from them, dash cams in the past. I probably wouldnt buy a 1 off small item as chances to get lost from any Chinese company is high. I have had some warranty issues and after providing a video I was refunded or reimbursed

  • Gearbest has been ok, however I recently made the mistake of using their sister site StyleBest : hopeless, sizes are wrong and customer service is non-existent.

  • +1

It's been ok.. I ordered an item via free delivery on 07 Sept and it arrived 12 Oct. Most times is best to pay that little bit extra for faster priority delivery (within 2-3 weeks). If you're not in hurry free delivery is fine.

  • +1

I use it only for goods that are $40 or less. I feel like there are some products that are too good to be true for the price and will never put my on them. And the delivery times are very slow, even if it's for 5-10 days, but they did arrive for me with no issues (yet).

  • +1

I have just received my new phone.Took a month to arrive via Netherlands Post.
    No problems.

  • +3

The first thing I ordered from them never turned up.
    I got a refund.
The second thing I ordered, they couldn't send, because the Parcel Locker address wouldn't fit on their shipping labels.
    I got a refund.
I won't be using them in the future.

  • +4

I ordered a Xiaomi power bank from GB that was DOA. They could only offer me a partial refund excluding shipping costs.

    • +4

Hopefully you ended up getting a full refund. Unacceptable from gearbest

      • +2

Yeah I tried and couldn't, I even raised PayPal dispute and they sided with the seller :(

        • +3

You might want to start a forum post a detailing your case on ozb. Once its out there for everyone to see the gb rep might contact you to resolve it. Atleast it would add more evidence that gb continues to be unreliable and they might get banned again like they were before

    • Hi rziz, could you pls pm me your order number for checking?

      • +1

I have PMd you twice already and you did not give me any resolution.

        • I have searched and didnt find your PM message, could you pls show me where you send pm message?

    • +1

Just an update, I have just received the rest of the refund.

  • +6

My item from literally a month ago has not shipped, a $220 AUD order. :-(

    • Could you pls pm me your order number for checking?

      • +1
        • I have just informed my colleague to arrange refund for you first, due to your order has been sent to shipping company already, our order department are trying to get this package back to us.so it take some times to process this.

        • @gearbest: Nice one. You literally just "sent" it. There aren't even any tracking events. You just generated a new consignment with the tracking provider (in China, by the way).

You guys are the worst scammers I have ever seen.

        • @0xdragon: And as always, here's proof: https://imgur.com/sw1IybO

You can see above that they posted their comment an hour ago.

They also admitted to me they didn't (and still do not) have the item in stock. So how can they ship it, I wonder? https://imgur.com/gkIhTme

  • +4

What's the best way to pursue a refund from Gearbest for 2 x fake Pro Hd headphones? Do i open a ticket? Contact Sunny on here? Or go straight to PayPal dispute?

    • +2

I have found opening a ticket to be pretty useless. It can take a long time to respond and they start by offering a less than fair solution. I would suggest contacting Sunny, I have found her to be very helpful, then if you don't get a satisfactory response go to PayPal.

    • @urbancartel How do you know that they are fake? I have a pair that I'm still waiting for shipment for (it's been over a month since I ordered them and they shipped the rest of my order, but just keep telling me to wait for the earphones). If they are shipping fakes, maybe it's not worth waiting for…

      • Hey Digi - I read about it on Ozbargain and did a little google searching…Seems they we're being sold a the same time from Banggood so hints to a supplier issue…. Long story short it led me to an article and some pictures showing what to look for https://www.head-fi.org/gallery/album/fake-xiaomi-in-ear-hyb…

Gearbest has been pretty good about it to be honest - they've refunded the order and also sent out a new pair that i haven't received yet. SO if all works out OK i'll actually have them for nothing…

Hope it works out OK for you :)
