Milligram (Formerly Notemaker) - 15% off Everything Storewide

70
HOORAY15

Notemaker has changed their name to Milligram. To celebrate the birthday of the original brand they're having 15% off everything in their store for 48hrs only (ends Friday morning, 11:00 AEST. Traditionally, I've found their coupons also stack on sale items, so it's best to find something that's already reduced and then add the discount. They have a flat $9.90 delivery anywhere in Australia, or free delivery on orders over $99 (after discounts).

  • You've got the wrong URL in the deal. Should be milligram.com, not miligram.com

    • Ah, mea culpa. I should know to wear my glasses when I'm typing things (I obviously missed the second 'l' earlier). Thanks for picking it up.

  • Notemaker was a great shop, excellent products, great customer service. Can only assume Milligram will be the same.

    • Shipping costs were insane though.

They're opening a physical store soon in Melbourne Central so for Melburnians at least they can save on shipping

Brilliant, we're lacking solid stationary stores in Melbourne. Sydney at least has Dymocks still selling good stationary/fountain pen stuff.

Would you know when it is opening?

        • @smileymiwo:

Stationery? ;) I'm sure most stores in Melbourne are solid and stationary!

          @smileymiwo: Sometime next month.

Don't think Sydney will ever have a Milligram store since Dymocks Stationery pretty much is a Milligram store (they occupy significant floor space inside including Moleskine as they're the official Australian distributor of Moleskines I think)

Speaking of new store openings, you lucky Melburnians also get a Godiva store in Emporium opening on November 24!

        • @smileymiwo: November 4 according to their Instagram

      • How so? A flat rate of $9.90 country-wide up to $99 seems pretty reasonable to me.

    • Just curious but i browsed notemaker awhile ago. Branded goods like moleskine i now have a superb reputation. But coming from someone who just got notebooks and stationery 'that works' i could never work out how these fine 'paper' and stationery, notebooks, diaries etc coudl cost say $25, 35,50 bucks versus something i'd get sub $10 or so. Do artists, writers and the more preppy find such a big difference in the feel and quality to be worth the money? Perhaps this is one of those things i'll never understand?

Usually it's because it writes smoother in terms of pens or the paper is of good quality. If you're using a fountain pen, you would go for a Clairefontaine over a Moleskine as the paper is better and there's less page bleed. There's a big difference between the notebooks you get in Typo compared to Moleskine, Rhodia etc.

That being said, I can't believe some ballpoint pens can cost $500+!

This. Also, a lot of stationary also doubles as collectable limited editions. For example, Field Notes! I never knew I would consider spending $60 for 3 little pocket notebooks.

@matrix83: Yeah I bought a Moleskine that had a MT tape pattern as the cover from mag nation yesterday hahaha to add to my Moleskine collection

        • yeah, i guess when your not a fan of these sort of things it's like - $5 biro versus $500 biro. Plus paper smootheness, blending etc, the average pleb such as myself couldn't justify the better quality. then again i am sure it is like me drinking $80, 100 red wine bottles some time. others think $15,20 is standard and it's a snobby thing to decant and drink $80-100 wines, but i know the fine quality difference and justify it as we enjoy it now adays (we certainly start off that way).

I guess when you have an expensive fountain pen (i was gifted one but haven't learnt how to fill it, or use it) and you like to write alot i.e. your occupation or hobby, you'd see things in a lot different light to me. at the moment a 'designerish' typo notebook, kiki k, or even something at a stationery store seem decent to me, but i am sure people here in this thread would be scoffing at me haha.

        • @SaberX: Ew, Typo :P

Moleskin are actually kinda trash if you use a fountain pen. I saw the new Milligram stuff in store at Dymocks and it looks closer to Leuchtturm 1917 quality, but with a nicer design. Kind of the same aesthetic the Rhoda Heritage is going for. I'm going to pick up one of the linen notebooks to give it a shot, it's the same price as an A5 1917 but locally designed and owned.

That said, even 15% off doesn't make their Vanishing Points competitively priced :/

      • If you want excellent notebooks with awesome paper then I highly recommend Dark Star. Shipping from the UK is not too stupid, but the notebooks are very much worth it. The best paper I've ever used with a fountain pen.

Yeah look I haven't used Moleskine etc. so can't comment there, but I've always loved pens - not like 1000 dollar pens, just good pens that wrote nicely. One day in Officeworks I bought a Rhodia notepad cause I had some money and I needed a notepad anyway, and the branding was nice.

Writing was a different world after that. Your favourite pen becomes your sixth finger on good paper. Idk if Rhodia is the nicest paper in the world, but wow, so much better. It's not that expensive either.

My philosophy with most products is the cheap shit is always gonna be cheap shit, and the expensive stuff is always gonna be overpriced - despite being amazing. Therefore, somewhere in the middle, there are amazing products at reasonable prices. Rhodia is one of those.
