  • whats the two power sockets separate to the others for?

    • +17

probably to give them more room since some chunky plugs/adapters

      • i thought that but why have a line around them to separate it - is it only those that are protected, or maybe the power switch doesnt turn those two off?? (just a thought)

        • I think a lot of power boards have a concept of a 'master' and a 'slave'. Such that when the master is switched off, all of the slaves are switched off too (to save power)
          eg https://www.bunnings.com.au/eco-solutions-6-way-master-slave…
          ??? Do you think?

@WaywardOne: "2 x USB ports; 1.1m cable " description on website doesn't tell us anything.

My guess is just a visual feature as master/slave switches typically have the master switch highlighted.

I suspect the USB ports are a max of 2.1A shared.

As we can now see the wording, it appears to be their way of suggesting the separated sockets are designated for chunkier power adapters rather than cords.

        • @stebie:
thanks. I see the labeling now. The others are marked DVD etc - not a bad idea really.

        • @WaywardOne: Aldi had one of those master/slave power boards a few months ago and it was advertised as such. I think they had some quality issues as myself and a few others in store had units that kept randomly turning the slaves off despite sufficient master draw.

  • Would the usb ports on this power a SNES mini or would I still need to use an adaptor?

    • The USB port on my TV powers it, should definitely work if 2.1A like mentioned above.

    THis may be good.

  • What's the purpose of the Antenna in/out ports on boards like this?
Is it just to give you an extension by connecting 2 cables in? Like this: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41BW8u5viaL.SY300.jpg ?

    • It'd most likely be surge protection.

    • I don't know exactly, but may have a logical explanation.

If a lightning bolt strikes your TV antenna located on your roof, the current is able to run through the cable and into your TV and then frying it.

Could someone confirm if true? Thanks

    • It is a "inline filter" function. Like a poor man's monster powerboard.

I bought a power board with 2xusb ports (no antenna though) from Target 2 weeks ago for $15. Here's the link in case you can't get the ALDI one.

  • Plugged my new laptop into an aldi powerboard. Now half the sockets don't work. My DSE one didn't break from the same appliance. Don't know what happened

    • My answer would be to do the right thing in the first place and get a Xiaomi powerboard and furrget the rest. The others may get a tick, but just don't have the quality needed inside.

      • there's no surge protection with the xiaomi powerboard though.
