    What does the * mean

    • +1

      only for Brisbane area and If there is any meter box upgrade or flat roof not include in price

      • Is the inverter made in Germany or German certified? I've had this trick played on me before.

        • +1

          it's totally made in Germany you can check the website https://www3.fronius.com/cps/rde/xchg/fronius_australia
          and https://www.solarweb.com/

        • +1

          @Deval79: Fronius inverters are made in Austria, not Germany. What model are you providing? Some will require single phase and others dual phase. Best to be upfront about that rather than inadvertently leading people up the garden path.

          For all others, Fronius make very good inverters usually covered by a 5 or 10 year warranty depending on the deal you get. My installation has a Fronius Symo 5.0-3-M.

          Also be mindful of the Tier 1 panel marketing guff. It's not indicative of a quality panel. Here's a bit of reading material. As always, do your research and don't fall for the salesman's weasel words.

    • where? I might need to increase my glasses measurement; I've seen no asterisk (or even the detail / T&C on the offer)

      • Its after the price $3700* - noted twice in the deal title and description.

        • -3

          I know, it was a joke :)

    Where are the panels made in?

    • Panels Made in China but inverter is Made in German

      • Made in Germany or Austria? Looks like Frovia is an Austrian company:

        What Günter Fronius started in 1945 in Pettenbach, Austria has now become a modern day
        success story.

        • made in Austria European made

        • +1

          @Deval79:

          made in Austria European made

          That is not this …

          It's totally made in Germany you can check the website

          … are you making this up as you go along?

        • -7

          @PJC:
          it's same as you think it's made in Germany with European standard

        • +2

          @PJC:
          Yes Fronious is made in Austria. SMA is not made in Germany anymore. I went Fronious with Q cell panels 6kw system with 5kw invertor and and it's touching 5.5 kw and it not even hot yet.
          My advice for anyone looking for solar is to spend more time looking at the product and it's local warrantys rather than the company you choose ( although it's important too) because chances are the company will change its name or not be here in a couple years time so if you do have to chase an issue, it would more than likely be via the manufacturer.

        • @Deval79: No, it is a matter of record you informed your fellow OzBargain members it is totally made in Germany, which is not a country named Austria.

        • +1

          @Deval79:

          it's same as you think it's made in Germany with European standard

    Seems extremely cheap. Not sure I really trust a company that uses stock images as if they are installs of their own on their website.

    • +2

      Agree!!!!

    • not all of it installed by company, all installation done by CEC accredited installer. And this is the special deal from company till 28/10/2017 only

      • +1

        There's precious little track record to go on. The website basically has stock images and some contact details and that's all. The company has only existed for a year: https://abr.business.gov.au/SearchByAbn.aspx?abn=91613995645 and there seems to be virtually no reviews or other info to be found on google.

        I hope it is a legitimate deal - the price and components are good, although it would be more encouraging if you didn't initially claim a Austrian inverter as being made in Germany. I hope the company is around in years to come to provide support if there are any installation or warranty issues (This is particularly relevant for BYD panels because while BYD offer an above-average product warranty of 12 years, they don't have an Australian office, so directly claiming the warranty with BYD may be tricky and the normal Australian Consumer Guarantees won't apply to them - either the installer or importer would more likely be dealing with the warranty. Who is the importer in this case? Will they be around to honour any warranty if you aren't?)

        How much deposit is required? this seems important given the relative lack of track record.

        It does sound legitimate to me, albeit a bit poorly planned. I would be cautious and thoroughly check out the company before handing over any money though.

        • BYD is Biggest Battery Company In china In Sydney airport they already delivers some electric bus. Now they are exporting more BYD bus for Australia.

        • +1

          @Deval79:

          I fully realise that BYD is a big company and from all accounts they make decent panels (not the best panels, but ones that should be good enough to not have any issues). That's not the point. They don't have an Australian office. If you have a warranty issue with the panels then it is the installers responsibility, but if the installer isn't available under Australian consumer law the importer is responsible, and if the importer is not around any more (or you don't know who the importer was) then you have to deal directly with China for your panel warranty. That may still be fine, but it certainly isn't as good as having the warranty in Australia.

          What is more concerning is your difficulty in providing answers to simple questions.

  • +1

    Wow, this seems too good to be true?
    BYD panels and Fronius inverter are not shit products. Gotta be cutting corners somewhere?

  • -2

    What I don't understand is why the panels are always placed on the roof when they perform better when CLOSER to the sun…

    I wonder if I could disrupt the solar industry by patenting a pole that is long and can secure your panels much higher than a persons roof.

    • +5
    • +1

      because having a pole just to have solar panels might look funny; and people put this on their roof to hide it…I guess…

    • +4

      You underestimate the distance between the sun and your roof.

  • Is the setup able to take battery at a later stage
    And is finanace available for that price?

    • sorry for finance option call us on 1300 554 929

  • BYD haven't been making panels for that long, but so far have been doing ok. Remember it isn't a bargain if it doesn't last to at least 15 years. Longer the better.

    "Has it been more than 12 months since your nearby solar system was assessed by a CEC licensed professional. Do your solar modules have a development earth and coarseness from not being cleaned bi-every year? At that point you require a Maintenance for our professionals to go to site to review your close solar system and clean your modules."

    I don't know if my solar panels have a development earth. Better go check.

    Better schedule my bi-every year service.

  • which model of BYD panels and which inverter?

    btw how will I know if my roof is big enough?

  • I have the worst expereince with one of the solar power installation in QLD called Insured Solar - http://www.insuredsolar.com.au/
    Took a deposit for $700+ and have not installed a single panel on my roof and still chasing the company for a refund for almost more than 5 months.they also promised a similar deal with the BYD panels.
    So bad for the solar industry, just be careful out there guys.

    • Are you In Brisbane ? If you still want to insatall solar just submit your enquiry at [email protected]

      • Yes, I am in Brisbane, but no longer interested in BYD panels. What would be the cost with Jinko panels for 5 kw or 6 Kw system.

        • We also have Jinko panels available

  • Off-topic - my builder installed 6 of the solar panels on the south-facing roof of my new house, they were meant to install 16 on the north and 4 on the west but there wasn't enough space (so theres 14 on the north and 6 on the south), which is fine, but surely they could have split them up between the west-facing and south-facing roof. They claim that it doesn't matter in QLD and they may be somewhat right, however, in winter, those 6 panels are probably going to be doing bugger all. Any suggestions? Should I fight them on it?

    • +1

      South Side always matter

    • +3

      The simple answer is no, you shouldn't try to get them to split the panels between South and West and you are using standard panels (which you almost certainly would be). Read below for an explanation of why.

      Firstly, https://solarcalculator.com.au/wp-content/uploads/solar-powe… gives you the percentage of maximum production for different tilts and directions for each capital city in Australia. For Brisbane at a fairly normal 20 degree roof pitch, south (180 degrees) gives 78% of maximum production, whereas West (270 degrees) gives 88%, so there is certainly a difference, but not a huge one (unless the tilt of your roof is higher). The advantage with going West is more about maximising production in the afternoon and evening when you might be using more power and also in winter when overall production is low.

      So West is better, although not asoundingly better than South. The problem is that if you have one string of panels wired up in series facing different directions then part of the electrical properties are that the same amount of current has to be flowing through all the panels in that string at any one time. The way solar panels work is the amount of current that can flow through them is roughly proportional to the amount of sun shining on them. That means that roughly speaking a string of 4 west-facing panels and 2 south-facing panels will be limited to the amount of current on the set of panels that is receiving the least amount of sun at the time and thus total power production is limited by the worst performing panels and you may well end up producing less electricity with that setup than if you just have 6 south-facing panels (Power production isn't quite as badly limited as current, but it is still significantly limited). 6 south-facing panels is also better than just removing two and have 4 west, so you probably have the best that can be done for your house, unless they can find a way of mounting all 6 facing West or East.

      You might now be thinking how can it be fine to split them betwen north and south like they have? The reason is that most inverters that you get these days have two MPPT inputs and they would have hooked all the north panels to one input and all the south panels to the other. Each of those MPPT inputs can optimise the production of the panels connected to it separately, so having different orientations is fine. If your inverter only has a single MPPT input or it isn't wired in that way then you should be concerned, but I'm sure they wouldn't have done that. Theoretically, if you had an inverter with three MPPT inputs then you could split them between north, west and south, but I don't think there are any on the market that do that.

      If you did really want 4 west and 2 south then it is possible to design a system to do that, either by using micro-inverters for the two south-facing panels, or using panels with integrated Maxim optimisers for those 6 panels, but unless you think you can get the builder to pay for two micro-inverters as well, it isn't worth worrying about now and even then 4 panels is probably getting close to not producing enough voltage to run the inverter effectively. The other thing that could be done is to install a frame to tilt the panels on the south side up so that they actually face north as well - that would be good for production, but unless you can convince the builder to spring for the frames required it probably isn't worthwhile, and it is possible you need council approval for that and you might not like the look of it on your roof in the end anyway.

      PS. No, I am not a solar installer. I just recently installed panels on my house and did a lot of research in the process due to the fact that shading from trees made my install much more challenging than most. The comment from the supposed solar installer that "South Side always matter" without considering the additional factors makes me a little worried about the quality of their design process.

      • +1

        maybe associated should offer you a job

  • +1

    Did anyone go ahead with this offer or have they had any dealings with this company?

    The inverter brand looks good and the panels look to be reasonable. My concern is after sales service and warranty. My only reason for looking into solar is to save money so any issues/problems detract from this.
