Unsure how much these are going for these days normally but I picked up an internal drive for same price recently so surely it's not a ripoff.

If these use a power brick then the on/off switch will only stop the drive spinning.
As long as the power brick is plugged in to a turned on power point it is drawing power even if the switch on the case is off
Mentioning it in case you are thinking that the on/off switch will stop the HDD using power.
Nah its purely to stop it turning itself on when i leave connected to the power, and i turn the power switch on.
