That key ring is with all certainty the greatest and most distinguished item ever posted at OzBargain.

Its that vs the Dolphin Flick knife.

  • So what came first. The chicken or the egg.

  • Bought the Smart home wireless timing thing… the description image shows the Sonoff Wifi Switch 10amp, so if that is what arrives, I'll be pretty stoked. Trying to work out how to get a few more for that price…

    • What would you use it for? I'm keen but not sure what it does or how to use it.

Fish tank lights timer on/off, pumps on/off. Pool pumps on/off,
When on holidays: pedestal fans on/off blowing on curtains, table lamps on/off.
Charge my xiaomi battery packs when sunny outside , and my solar cells are generating electricity. (thinking of running a Raspbery Pi 3 from a 20,000mah battery pack, and just charging the pack up from midday to 4 pm each day.

Slow cooker on /off with a temperature probe inside it (some of sonoff stuff can have a temp/humidity sensor added cheaply).
        Home-brew kit
        Fish tank heaters on/off
Christmas lights on off at times.

Or just have it connected to a remote wifi switch.

        • Ok doesn't apply to me at all. Haha. I'll leave it to people who actually need it

        • I'm not an electrician….
but you can (illegally, against Aus code) wire them into your ceiling lights and allow them to be controlled by your phone or smart-home app, or by a wall-switch that is connected to the smart-home system.

Actually, most of those things above are a bit sketchy with this unit because of lack of Aus electrical standards. But i'm not going to stop just because of that.

@mduncan2: aaaaaand cue the next "house burnt down" news story lol

        • @imurgod:
I've wired several of the Sonoff POW into the middle of an extension lead I've cut in half, but of course that limits the uses because most houselights don't run through power points.

An alternative not requiring wiring in is this: https://www.itead.cc/smart-home/slampher.html
It sits between the fitting and the globe. They're a bit more pricey though at AU$16.05 from Zapals (https://www.zapals.com/itead-slampher-smart-433mhz-rf-wifi-c…)

        • @2be8: Oh I wouldn't know.. I'd definitely stuff it up and burn the neighbourhood down.

It just made me think about those stories where some idiot charged their phone with some dodgy charger from China and burned their house down.

        • @imurgod:
Sonoff has actually obtained CE certification for some of their devices:
the TH10, TH16, Pow and Dual (certificate of compliance here: https://www.itead.cc/wiki/images/f/f7/CE_Certificate_for_Son…)
The S20 EU, UK and US (although notably not the model suitable for Australia: cert here: https://www.itead.cc/wiki/images/0/0a/Sonoff_S20_CE-RED.pdf)
The Sonoff Basic (which is what this device resembles, but is not exactly the same as. cert here: https://www.itead.cc/wiki/File:CE_Certificate-Sonoff_Basic.j…)
          Sonoff 4CH and 4CH Pro: https://www.itead.cc/wiki/images/c/ce/CE-RED-Sonoff_4CH_%26_…

The ones that don't seem to have CE certification:
          Sonoff Slampher
Sonoff RF (like the one listed in this post, but with 433Mhz RF remote)

Not that CE is relevant for Australia in terms of legality, but it does mean that they've been determined to meet the rules for the EU.

  • I'm not seeing that price on the Xiaomi speaker, I assume it needs a code as well?

    • +1

      Thanks just added.

      • Bought the egg and the speaker, tempted by the watch, thanks. If I remember correctly from the last time I bought from these guys I'll have a long wait for them to arrive.

  • OMG!! THAT CHICKEN EGG!! lols

  • Xiaomi power board deal would be good ;)

  • — ignore me, I misread the price before commenting —

  • The coupon for the speaker is invalid, or do I have to register for it to work?

  • AFAIK the watch is only in chinese at this stage.

  • Does the egg fully emerge from the chicken? i.e. is it really "laid"?

  • The chicken code is no longer valid

  • Any other colours for the watch?
