Maybe not so good for phone screens? Phones have an oleophobic coating that is more delicate than the lens of glasses
Hmm I use them on my phones all the time and never had a problem
Do you find your phone getting smudges more often than before? Regularly needing a wipedown because you can't see the screen in glarey conditions?
Because thats what happens when you remove the oleophobic coating. How about the material the screen constantly rubs on when its in your pockets?
@shadOzer: you mean my snot rag?
(apologies to everyone who’s ever bought a used muncan phone)Oh shit, so that's what caused it…
@BradleyDS2: oleophobic coating only lasts a few months at best with me. I don't use any chemicals on the screen. It's not a permanent solution. A screen protector also had the coating and that wore out as well.
The isopropyl alcohol will strip the oleophobic coating off over time, but I use glass screen protectors so it is of no concern to me lol
Okay for lenses with multiple / transition coating?
There's also wipe for phone or iPad. My experience is the lens wipe is also good for them but not vice versa.
My phone has an auto clean system. I keep it in my pocket when walking around, and when I take it out it's all clean :)
just get a mini spray bottle + windex along with tissues. Same thing. Used it daily, no issues.
Use a microfibre cloth instead to prevent scratches.
Just use a microfibre cloth for phones.
For glasses, I just have a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and use it with tissues. Streak-free and clean as a whistle.
I'd suggest using a microfibre cloth with the isopropyl to prevent scratches.
But yeah, clearwipe is isopropyl, water and fragrance, that's all that's listed as the ingredients.
The only "safe" material for wiping is a micro-fiber cloth. Tissues, paper towel, and clothing are not recommended. Buy glasses with a scratch resistant coating (and water repellent coating if possible) The best way to clean is with water (not hot) and mild dish soap, gently rubbing between your fingers if necessary.
My mother gave me a heap of these a few months ago raving about how good they are and they are still sitting on my kitchen bench. Guess I should try them out.
Would these be ok to use to clean the lens on a DSLR?
Would not recommend it, lens usually have a coating on them. IMO it best to always have a decent UV filter protecting the lens.
Please don't. Use a microfibre cloth.
Thanks angers and Munki, will just use a microfiber then.
Most of the time it will most likely be just dust. Get a lens air blower to blow the dust off. Try to refrain from direct contact with the glass elements.
these are waaay better than the cheap ones for glasses. Great deal
I'd like to use these for the sheer convenience but without washing the glasses first wouldn't I just be grinding sand/dirt into the lenses?
I normally buy Alcohol Swabs 200(any chemist sells them) for $6.99 they are smaller but one will easily clean a phone or glasses.
I use toothpaste with a soft toothbrush… Works like a charm for my phone screen (with screen protector, of course) and sunnies
Do you also wash it with tap water after that to give it a shine?
the toothpastes itself should be good enough ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_WOEL6F1YE
I use h2o for sunnies and glasses. You get a few mega-litres of it for $5. It can last you a lifetime if used sparingly, or lets surf out the front door if you use it all at once.
I find these to leave smudges and streaks on my ray ban prescription spectacles.
try zeiss lens wipes
Chemist warehouse also has a gift bag offer in their latest catalogue. Spend $55 on haircare, skin care and cosmetics and get a gift bag worth $160 (some exclusions apply).
