Frequent Flyer Notes

Air Canada is part of the Star Alliance and its frequent flyer program is called Aeroplan. Just like other Star Alliance carriers, Aeroplan allows you to earn and redeem points on all Star Alliance member airlines (including Singapore Airlines, United Airlines and Air New Zealand). Its free to join and you can find more information here.

The above Economy fare travels in ‘K’ class (Tango) and only accrues 50% points of the mileage flown. So for example a return flight from Sydney to Vancouver would earn you 7,763 Aeroplan miles. That’s just over half what is required for a one-way redemption short-haul flight within Canada and mainland USA (15,000).

  • Shouldn't K be kilo class?

  • Don't fly Air Canada

      ? why not?

      • It's basically a budget airline, disguised as a full service airline.

I second this, crappy old planes, incredibly rude staff, overcharge for baggage. They insisted on charging us to check through two kids strollers which should be free and then LOST THE BLOODY STROLLERS!

After two trips back to Toronto Airport to try to find the strollers we gave up and tried to lodge a claim……. ha ha ha ha ha. Air Canada never responded to emails or the promised return phone calls.

Our cousins that live in Toronto let us know that Canadians avoid Air Canada whenever they can and our story is appallingly common.

    • My experience with Air Canada was wonderful. I mean it's no Emirates but far from a budget airline.

  • so much cheaper last year. we flew Air Canada to NY in dec for $1050 with free stopover in canada. Can pay extra for 1 additional stop in Canada. The good thing about going through Canada is that you go through US immigration in Vancouver and arrive into US domestic so it's quick to get out of airport. We flew into Newark domestic. US immi in Vancouver took 5 mins.

The negative about Air Canada is that eventhough my husband and I booked together for some reason our seats were separate. He sat 2 rows in front of me on a 13hr flight to Vancouver. It was full and they made no assistance in trying to get us seats together and were rude about it. How were we to know? It's not a budget airline where you have to pay to pick you seats. Don't think I can fly them again due to their very rude service.

  • I did a trip to NYC and Vancouver 4 months ago via AC. They weren't the best airline but they were fine. Flight attendants were mostly old and tended to be a bit grumpy. The planes weren't to the standard of etihad or whatever. Being able to fly direct to Vancouver from bne was a huge plus for us.

  • Yes Air Canada sucks but no one else does direct to Vancouver from Sydney. And getting on in Sydney and sleeping through to Vancouver is worth the trouble. I don’t interact with the unhappy flight attendants or the airplane. Just on and sleep.
