      I have a better one: #Floptus

      • I also received a dud SIM, they wanted me to go into a store and "purchase" another SIM, I asked them to send me a new one, they said that I could only order online and pay extra with probably the same outcome. I would loose the money for the purchase too. That's clearly double dipping. I know it's not much, but think if they do it to each single customer how much money they just got for free. Seems welcome back #Optarse is in order.

We are having trouble validating the SIM number, please try again or try using another SIM card. Reference: PPACT-SIMVAL-0008

    • That's the exact message and code I got when trying to activate the sim online. The "Let's Chat" online assistant eventually found that there's an error with the SIM number.

      • So we need to go into store and have them replace it?

        • +1

Yep. The online assistant said I'd have to go into an Optus store for a replacement.

[Not sure why Optus can't simply send another SIM and extend the 14Gb offer, given it was their stuff-up. I mean, it kind of defeats the whole purpose of ordering online for the convenience, and I feel especially for the people in remote areas or with disabilities that make it difficult/impossible to get to an Optus store]

        • Yes, but they can't do it directly in store. They'll have to call their own support, they end up in queue, it takes time etc. You're in for some major waste of time if it goes anything like mine.

I'm just watching this Optus debacle from the sideline. What I suspect is that somewhere somehow a batch of SIM IDs got deleted from their systems invalidating all of them. It's time Optus owned up to the problem. The reps are just flailing around.

  • Quote from live chat:

I'm sorry I went ahead and tried to activate the SIM for you but then I think you have got a post paid sim so please buy another prepaid sim

    Me:

I dont have a post paid sim

  • did optus get hacked and lost the data sims?

Activation is supposed to be a very straight-forward and almost instantaneous process nowadays.

Got my card next day after ordering via express mail. Seamless activation was up and running in a couple minutes on Daily Maximiser plan which allows 1gb/day for $2 and 1.5gb/day for $4 which was really what I was after. Still have my free 6month sim from amaysim :) for free calls etc.

I reckon with NBN and our satellite up and running, data costs are coming way down. If you have 4G signal+hotspot, best setup for home now is the 50gb for $65 from amaysim, with the 20% off (which i think will become the norm), its only $52 for 50gb for 28days.

not sure about the hacking - but seems like potentially to "cap" the offer or prevent people from getting the 10gb bonus on $5, they've potentially purposely done a dodgy on sim cards being sent out - cos why would / how much effect would one person complaining to ACCC about it be?

Latest discussion I have had with support is that they are stating that the deal is 4Gb (now) + 10Gb (at next recharge) rather than the advertised "14Gb of included data"! Have argued that that is NOT what the advert stated and await developments…

  • Is there a way of checking if SIM is valid before I doing anything to connect it with my number? Sorry…bit of a noob with these issues. Most other providers I've trialled have been straightforward. Ordered SIM 28/9 expecting next day delivery as stated. It was not sent until Wed 4/10 and I got it Wed evening. I am not not sure if I want to activate given all of the negative feedback.

Spent days tying to activate, return, transfer credit etc the faulty SIM and they can't do anything because it's not activated. How am I suppose to activate a faulty SIM? Apparently this dodgy way of Optus doing business has been going on for years. You can search the forums about this. Sells faulty SIM, buyers gets frustrated trying to activate it, forego the money, win for Optus. I see a good story for A Current Affair.
