Boost has just been brought by Telstra so expect the enshittification of Boost to begin to seep in.

Where did they bring it ?

      • +4

        To the toilet…

    • +6

      bought or brought?

      • +20

@guidedlight meant to say, "Boost has just been bringed by Telstra"

        Stay in school kids.

        • +1

You mean "Boost has just been branged by Helstra"

          Me fail English? That's unpossible

      • they brought to graveyard after they bought them

Was on the cards, it was only a matter of time. Problem is Boost is not as attractive with its pricing as it used to be. Previously it was the only MNVO apart from Telstra to offer Volte and WiFi Calling, but now everyone has caught up.

      • $21.30/month for ~22GB/Month on 100% of Telstra network nothing compares to it.

I was on Optus before, no data or sms at Central Station, same for any big event in Sydney, meanwhile I can video call people with Telstra and I've got signal out of town in places where people on other providers dont.

    • +6

We will soon end up with Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone as the only options, sadly. When ACCC tried and failed to block TPG/Vodafone merger, every other acquisition became less relevant.

      • Who uses voda though

      • +1

Living in regional QLD, Telstra is the only choice we have. Boost has been great, I hope Telstra doesn't screw it too hard

    • Bought*

    • +4

I through Telstra owned them all along? Am I imagining things

    • That is some risk management policy right there just in case they got bought out by competitor who offers their network at 2 d tier prices

    • +1

if any one is going over from telstra to boost make sure your not on a business account because transferring the number only works on a personal account.

The removal of the 170GB/$230 plan (which in itself was too expensive compared to say a year or so ago) is really a bit rich sadly. Many people don't need that much data. I'm on the tail end of a 170GB plan and I've still got 130GB left. Considering options, but the value of 12 month plans on a number of MVNO's appears to have dropped substantially.

    • +3

yes it's a shame, I don't use much data either being on wifi most of the time.

Seems almost dead in the water but there are sim cards still around. The 170GB/$230 is great, it used to be about $150-160 with discounts then more recently subpar cashbacks. I was lucky enough to pick one up on ebay 20% off for $160 which will do me for another year come Jan. May still be worth checking around if you can get one for under $200 but surely won't be many more deals on it before the end of the year.

      • I'm on the same plan (expires in July) and I did see one for around $200 however it's a starter pack. I've heard customer service is not very helpful these days in wanting to convert it to a recharge on your account

        • +1

Ha don't worry about that, the starter pack is where the value is. Don't know anyone on here who would have recharged.

Just have to ask them, may take a few times. They are more reluctant which is why people port to another network cheap sim first.

          • +1

@G-rig: Thanks for your reply. I think I do have a cheap unused Lebara sim lying around somewhere!

    • optus mobile 12 month plan seems OK - think it's discounted to 159 at the moment.

      • +1

Alright price but Optus.. happy with boost and Telstra 5G.
Will see what the deal is in 2026, i feel the boost deals are getting worse.

  • Can you still port to Boost from Telstra as a new customer?

    • I would assume so as they would still be operating independantly.

    • +1

i did it yesterday, moved form telstra prepaid to boost, just sign in with your telstra ID and activate the sim. Boost app now just looks like telstra app with orange theme

    • +1

I think there may be a problem if you are coming from Telstra post paid to Boost as I have seen many posts where people had had problems.

      • +1

Yes - only issue the first time. Easily sorted by porting through Boost chat. After that, you can port in and out using self service web page.

I have ported 7 Telstra post-paid services to Boost using chat (it was painless). Then I ported 3 of these out to Telstra pre-paid ($2) and back to Boost to take advantage of recent specials for new customers. The whole process took ~20-30min (had to wait ~20 min after porting to Telstra before I could port back to Boost).

    • Yes , that's correct

  • Great deal! If I buy now and activate after 10 March 2025, I realise the bonus data inclusions will/may be different, but the sim should still be valid?

    • What bonus data, it's just 256GB now. The new sim deals are different it seems.

"The sale of Boost Mobile will deliver a significant payday to its co-founder, former prime minister Paul Keating.

The Australian Financial Review reports that Keating will pocket at least $40 million in the sale of the budget mobile business to Telstra, in a deal to acquire the carrier for just under $140 million cash."

    SMH

I was completely unaware of Keating having anything to do with Boost. A better bet than a piggery.

There cheaper on eBay seller Lucky mobile.

    Or www.luckymobule.com.au
They sell both boost and Telstra sims they have short expiry to activate them

    • They're cheap are they?

Still worthwhile people getting a 170GB from eBay for under $200 with codes.

      • Thank you man

    • For lucky mobile ones on eBay - they have SIM expiry of 8 September 2025 - that is when the SIM must be activated by i'm guessing ?

  • Far out, literally bought on ebay yesterday after being tired of waiting. At least it doesn't have Cashback limitations.

    • Exactly the same here. I paid ~$228 after eBay plus coupon and some credit I got for renewing eBay plus.
At least the discount is immediate and not in 6 months time.

      • Not to mention I kept getting "An error occurred" everytime I tried to checkout at Boost.

        • Yeah the site is awful.

  • +8

Just picked up a $230/170GB starter kit from CellPoint for $190 - currently 13 in stock.
    Activation expiry September 2025.

    https://cellpoint.com.au/shop/boost-mobile-230-prepaid-sim-s…

    • Thanks, just grabbed one

    • Grabbed this for the wife yesterday. Might be the last year of Boost for us.

    • Cheers grabbed one

    • No stock now @ Cellpoint

    • +2

The gem is in the comments

  • +2

Whole point of boost 9s to offer telstra fpr cheap. 300 bucks a year aint cheap

  • There any way to get cheaper recharges on boost as well? Got the $170gb plan for me and wife last year and it expires in Jan…. save the hassle of porting twice?

    • +1

People will tell you that you can use these to recharge if you get the right rep but I've never tried.
I just bought a $12 Optus SIM to use for a month instead

    • +1

afaik only via Coles with discounted gift cards

  • I just ported to Optus for 12 months saved a lot of money instead of staying with Boost

yeah yeah yeah, I know, Boost uses the Telstra network. tbh I live in inner Sydney and found Telstra's coverage to be worse than Optus's. of course, YMMV

  • Are there any other networks worth trying instead of Boost?
I have 101GB left out of 170GB from my last 365-day plan purchase, and only 23 days left to use it.
The only reason I chose Boost was for 5G, but it doesn’t seem worth it.

    • +2

Optus, whose regional network sharing agreement with Vodafone should come into effect next year

  • Anyone else having issues at checkout? It aways seem to throw a "Sorry, something went wrong" error at the end (not sure if it's because they've detected me as an existing customer, even though I'm technically not activating this card and only have 1 Boost account at the moment)

  • Curious why boost receives so much attention over say something like this

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/802088

very similar pricing, telstra perhaps has 40 less GB but in exchange for being on the actual telstra network as opposed to some subset of it? seems like an easy call for me, curious as to what others think

P.S. have also tried costco $100 vodafone which was good price wise but vodafone reception stinks, recent optus deal also looks great, though the privacy leaks were a major concern for most

    curious to what others think

    • Boost uses full Telstra network so coverage is no different

      • Coverage yes bands and traffic no
