Will this card support 3440x1440 WQHD 100Hz Free Sync?

    • +1

You won't be playing newer games in ultra. I would save for a Vega.

        Will Vega 56 do?

        • I have a GTX 1070 which benchmarks similar to the 56 and most AAA games don't manage so well on my 60hz 3440 x 1440. Indies etc, no problem.

By no means are they unplayable, but I doubt you'll be pushing 100 frames on many big titles.

@OpenHand: OK, thanks. Looks like I have to go with GTX 1080 as it is cheaper than the Vega 64. Pity I can't use the FreeSync.

        • @congngo: Yeah, the trade off with the Nvidia is that while you get better performance, you will pay through the nose for G-Sync. I haven't tried either sync so I can't speak for them, but the ultra-wide monitors in general are really nice.

It may be that the Freesync makes up for some of the lack of performance of a 56 too.

What games are you planning on playing?

        • @OpenHand: Mostly StarCraft 2 and some Battlefield 1.

        • Some tech commentators saying vega 56 is between 1070 and 1080. Probably why Nvidia released the 1070ti. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/q7XOott2_68

          tested vega 56 against 21:9 3440x1440.

        • You'd be able to maintain 100 fps in many games at that resolution, but not with all settings at Ultra. You will have to turn a few things down.

I got the Vega 56 as benchmarks show me I'll be able to maintain 90 fps in VR, however, there will be quick drops if I don't reduce certain settings.

@FabMan: Thanks, I'll try to get Vega 56 around $600.

    • I'd be saving for a 1080ti if I were you, but then again if you go Nvidia you really want a G-Sync monitor.

Price has been jacked? Now listed as $509 with 20% discount that would still be $424.17.

      509 * 80% = $407.20 ???

  • I'm completely conscious of prices being inflated due to mining but i don't believe this is a good deal unless you're impatient/need a card this second. The RX 580 4gb variant was $319.20 delivered from Futu a few days ago and while this has an extra 4gb vram, you're only getting an approximate ~5% performance increase for an extra 25% cost. 4gb is fine for current games @1080p but it ever becomes a problem in the future, just turn down your textures slightly…

I would much rather spring an extra $100-150 for a GTX 1070 on sale over this. e.g. my mate picked up an aussie stock Gigabyte GTX 1070 for $530 delivered during the recent ebay 18% off sale.

Glad I paid ~$260 for my RX 480 (which is very close in performance to the RX 580) earlier this year. Would feel quite sick having to fork out ~$400 for basically the same card today.
