$29 Mens Suits at Dimmeys

110

First deal so please feel free to blast away at me if you don't like the deal :D (as opposed to being nice which I know all of the Ozbargain community are!)

Bit shocked to be honest when I saw this as I initially thought it was a printing error but the manager in-store assured me it wasn't. She said there were over 100 in stock at her store.

Mens cotton suits (beige, taupe or grey though when I was in the Toongabbie store I did see pinstripes as well).

I'm not sure if this is only for selected stores but from the few store catalogues I browsed on the website it seems to be the same deal!

Oh dear, where does one possibly wear a $29 dollar suit from Dimmey's? At a convention for the cheap? Even the poor would save up for something better

    • the races? I'd be willing to part with $29 to buy a suit I wouldn't mind getting dirty in given the amount of champagne/beer that will probably get spilt on it.

      halloween

      • Yep - it'd make the basis for an excellent zombie outfit - if you're going to tear it to shreds and coat it in fake blood, you don't want to spend too much to start with!

Wow…didn't know prices can be this competitive. Good one. If only they have a store near closer to Sydney…

For those that's missing the point, these type of suit should be considered as "disposable". Wear it once, then donate it (after you wash / dry clean it, if you are kind enough).
So if you're thinking about the quality, don't. Because there is no consideration for such in the first place.

    • The only metropolitan/suburban store is in Toongabbie which is around the Parramatta region whilst the rest are more rural.

  • Saw this in our local catalogue, going this afternoon to check if quality is half-decent.

  • if they have in CBD sydney i might go and have alook.

  • Never tried a cotton suit. When are they usually worn? (seasonal?)

I'm sure they wont be that bad. I wear a $40 rivers suit to work everyday. So comfy!

A good tip with cheapo suits is to grab a handful of the material and crush it in your hand. Wait 10 seconds and release. It gives you a good idea of how bad the suits gonna look after sitting down in it. This suit would be perfect for a day at the races, given that you'd be standing all day, and the suit will probably end up covered in beer, ripped by a bogan in a fight, or thrown on the ground at the girls house afterwards ;)

People love to slam cheap suits and often seem to compare them directly to expensive ones for some reason. The reality is most people wouldn't be able to acurately tell the price of a suit by looking at it (rather than the label. Just like $5 t-shirts overpriced at $70 due to their brand rather than their quality).

For those looking for a cotton suit these (and synthetic suits on sale at Rivers and Dimmeys) represent a bargain compared to paying $100 - $150+ at a menswear store. It's obvious that they won't necessarily be as comfortable/stylish as expensive wool suits but I think most potential buyers have the common sense to realise that.

Disagree. unlike t-shirts and some other articles of clothing, you can tell a cheap suit a mile away

      • I think you missed my point. I don't think most people can tell a reasonable $50 synthetic suit from a $150 synthetic suit. Buyers aren't expecting it to look like an expensive wool suit - they want a cheap suit.

        • $150 suit is also classed as cheap maybe comparing $50 suit to $500 suit would be a better example :)

  • Good for the races in case one tart decides to spill her champagne all over you

Saw them today and they are VERY cheap looking. Stitching all around the edge of the collar (about 2mm in - so very noticeable), very crush looking material, not hemmed, and for some strange reason the sizes between the jackets and pants did not match. The largest size was a 56, the jacket looked about a 117 and the pants about a 92 - ok if your a lot bigger on the top than the bottom :) Maybe good for a disposable!

  • theres suits at dimmeys $100 reduced to $50 there actually sorta ok but very thin stitching and material
