8700k is out in a month or so FYI

    • yeah but what is its rrp,and how does it rate on price vs performance? Is it worth waiting for? Serious question, anyone can answer. Links would be nice.

      • Rumoured to be a decent increase (30% or so?) and only a few extra dollars on RRP. So while $368 is a great price, it's also basically a discontinued product now.

I'm hoping to snap up an 8700k in an ebay sale before Christmas 😀

I consider all outdated tech a refurb, whether advertised as such or not. I wont pay a cent above refurb value now, thanks.

      • Likely to be far more expensive, owning to the 2 extra cores. Preorder in the UK just popped up at $400 USD but that's not the greatest indicator of final pricing. Given that the new i3 = old i5 and the new i5 = old i7 I'd expect the pricing structure to something like:

i7 (premium) - around lower end LGA2011 pricing.
i5 - slightly cheaper than the old i7
i3 - slightly cheaper than the old i5
pentium range - starting at old i3 prices

        • Pentiums O.o … you BUY pentiums? If I need a pentium processor, I kerbside shop it on a Sunday night.

  • I'm not very tech savvy but I need a cpu around this range.

How does it compare to http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/162517605107
Which is covered under the 20% off eBay deal

They're the same CPU except this 7700 is the 'k' model, meaning it can be overclocked. If you have a z270 motherboard you can overclock the 7700k which can net you up to 20% more performance with enough cooling. The 7700k also runs slightly faster out of the box and can be resold much easier.

The price works out to be about the same after the 20% discount so I'd say this is the better deal.

However like other users have mentioned the next generation of intel CPU's is out in a couple of weeks and is bringing down the core tiers. Definitely wait until then before deciding your purchase.

      • Got it. Thanks! I'll sit tight for now.
