Get home and hop onto computer to realise it's too late :(

  • +1

Website was constantly shitting itself for me. By the time I managed to get to checkout the code expired.
Not bloody impressed. And yes … I was trying for 4 (profanity) hours.

    • +2

Message ebay now about it. Often they'll fix it manually the next day.

      • Not liking my odds.
I'll leave the items in my basket for the time being - wishful thinking they'll apply the code for me.
I would hope they'd be able to see that the items were there prior to 10pm at least …

        • They're doing a manual refund for the discount amount as I had issues checking out multiple times. Do it over chat so you get the written proof.

        • @dm01: Chat was conveniently disabled last night so I've had to email them instead.

        • +1

@Morphine: My story get's better…checked my CC balance early this morning and PayPal/eBay have managed to put through some of my purchases twice…once at the discounted price, and once at full price. And because both lots of transactions are still pending, the entire lot are preauthorised on my CC, and have pushed it over its limit. So I've spent this morning on the phone both to PayPal and to my CC company to try and sort it out.

FYI PayPal are the devil. I've now had three conversations with them in the past 16 hours or so, and they are buck-passing liars. Nothing is their fault…it's eBay's fault or the banks fault. Each time I spoke to them it wasn't until I've got angry with them that the CS rep. has actually tried to check out my enquiry properly. Up to that point, "everything is fine, no, we've only charged you once blah blah blah, nothing else showing at our end", then when I've started to lose it, they've dug a little deeper…"oh I see now", like suddenly some new information has just became available.

Their CS training is obviously aimed at aggressively defending their company, denying any mistakes (despite proof to the contrary), and shift the blame onto any other party in the transaction.

        • @dm01:
More often than not, it's the buyers fault..

        • +1

@tchi6: Pretty sure in this instance eBay or PayPal were having issues with checkout due to the volume of transactions going through during the sale period last night.

But thanks for your sweeping generalisation!

      • How do you message ebay?

        • +1

In Australia you don't message eBay, eBay messages you.

        • Via help menu.

      • I'm in same boat, couldn't get past PayPal checkout. Sent them a message 2 mins past. See what happens.

Anyone know if eBay us has any promos? They work far better in my experience. Don't know why the mods here delete them?

*Have both US and Aussie accounts

      • Finally got a response from Ebay - it's actually positive:

Thank you for contacting eBay about the PARTY18 promotion.

I'm sorry to know that you had experience some issues when the promotion commences. I understand that you still want to take advantage of >the promotion and we do understand that. Don't worry I can manage to submit a courtesy credit request to our marketing and promotions team >for the 18% to still be applied on the item. At the same time you have to pay the item in full price first and well refund the discounted >amount within 5-10business days. Once you're done with the payment please let us know.

Note: Terms and Conditions still applies.

So it looks like they'll need to do some fiddling in the background but at least I can still get the 18% off based on what's in my cart still.
        Let's see how it goes!

    • Bad luck mate. Maybe next time!

  • +16

Logged on looking for a cheap FIFA18 preorder deal - left with a $1600 fridge.

    Damn you ozbargain

  • +1

Note to self: do not leave it so late to proceed through checkout in future eBay sales… grrr

  • +2

    Post your prizes. Me:
    - 2017 iPad Silver 32GB $352
    - 5kg Whey Protein WPC/WPI $81
    - Huawei Y7 5.5 Phone (for a friend) $229

Pretty happy with that. The only negative was eBay being dodgy and kept saying the discount has already been applied for my last order. Had to buy the phone with a guest account for the discount to work.

  • +2

<exhales>… i can finally breathe normally again

  • +1

    Apple MBP 2017 15" $2,648
    Nintendo Switch (neon) $384.58

    • +1

Geez you must be happy with that! Were they impulse buys or were you already planning to get them?

      • My Toshiba (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/240362) has been broken for over a month so I needed a new computer and always wanted to try an MacBook Pro (always too expensive though). Never seen it anywhere near that price for current model local brand new stock (always $3k+)

Neon Switch was a partial impulse but I have seen that many deals posted up for around $450 on OzB to get it for that price was a bargain. Want to test Mario Kart, Tekken and I've always liked bomberman for multiplayer so maybe that too later on.

        • Wait what? Did I just read Tekken and Nintendo in the same sentence? I haven't played any Nintendo consoles for almost 10 years but what the hell happened there?!

        • @Hunter14: *Pokken :P

        • @Hunter14: There were Tekken games on both Wii U and 3DS, nothing announced for Switch yet though.

  • Might be a noob question but do the sellers get reimbursed the 18% they lose from eBay?

    • +1

the sellers get the full amount ebay pays the difference to them.

      • +1

Oh that's good. Don't have to feel sorry for them. Might go even more crazy at the next sale.

        • +2

Huh? You held back coz you felt sorry for the sellers?

        • The sellers don't even get told the 18% is on.

        • @Cusack:

Not really but it eases my mind when buying stuff from independent sellers that they don't get ripped off. This was my first eBay sale so still learning the craft from the Ozbargain veterans.

      • @paulaus Are you sure of that? I've heard Sellers say that they have to split the cost of the discount with eBay. Maybe there are different arrangements for different discounts.

Finally pulled trigger n bought an iPhone SE 128GB for A$520 with mobileciti, local AU stock with 2 yrs warranty.

Hehe I know it's an old and small phone, but just like the simplicity and single handed operation of small phone.. cheers

    • It's still an excellent phone, and I too think the form facto, size and styling is perfect.

      • +1

        Thanks for your support

Guess many think that this form factor is too old fashion, but I still like it.

Currently using 6+ but really struggling with such big screen

    • +1

Totally agree with the size of the phone. I think the 5 and 6 are around the ideal size for me. Fits perfectly in your hand and you can use one hand to do most things. If I wanted a bigger screen, I'd just use my iPad. Although the bigger phones do have better cameras so I understand why some people prefer that.

      • Yeah I like the size of SE or 6s.. but currently couldn't get a good deal with 6s.. so, settle for SE with 128GB & hope this phone will last me 4yrs or more hahaha

Most likely will not update IOS or at most IOS11

    • I'm currently using the 5SE 16GB, and once prices drop a little further, I'll be grabbing a second as a spare. Perfect size, great features, and feels less likely to snap in half with it jammed in your back jeans pocket when you bend down.

      • Feels good to have some of you guys here with same thoughts of SE

.. at least I don't feel dumb to folk out $520 for a small iPhone hahaha

        • You paid HOW MUCH?????

        • @dm01: (just kidding!)

        • @dm01:
I paid A$520 for SE 128GB , local AU stock with 2yrs warranty… too expensive?

        • @DarthLord: That's a decent price IMO - the 32GB version has been kicking around of late for ~$400, sometimes dipping a little from special deals (apart from a very limited Target deal a few months back). $120 more for a heap more space is pretty decent.

        • @dm01:

          Phew! Thanks man

target offer was Telstra locked prepaid?
Prompt me if u found any good deal of SE or 6s.. looking for at least 64GB

        • +1

@DarthLord: Can't remember about the Target one's network, but a few people here on OB have been saying unlocking Telstra phones is easy and cheap (sometimes free) these days. The other day I tried getting a cheap Android Telstra phone unlocked (a $25 one Coles had on special last week) and it cost less than $2 via a UK seller on eBay.

The only place I watch for phone deals is here on OB, so just keep refreshing the main page like me!

  • +6

    bit boring on here now
should have been 6-12 or 18 hours would have been fitting.

  • I just missed it by few seconds for hitting the enter. F**K

    • Dont worry, next year will be 19%.

      • Do they usually do any promo during long weekend?

  • +5

Thought it was 10pm local time :/

    • +2

      :( Unlucky mate. Perth?

    • +1

Ah nuts! I missed out completely. I had even checked stuff out earlier today in anticipation.

Usually these things last to 12pm, giving WA until 10pm. That sucks.

    • +1

So this 10pm is SYD time? how come! Should be local time

  • +4

For me there wasn't enough time to overcome cognitive dissonance and potential regret, so I didn't end up purchasing anything. I'm not good at impulse.

Shame, because this is the biggest storewide discount I've ever seen and if I had more time I would have bought something.

    • So you ended up with regret :)

      • Regret that I didn't had enough time to find something I wanted, not regret that I didn't buy anything.

Someone posted an OLED LG tv for 2380 but with 2 minutes left on the clock. Now that would be a true impulse buy.

code no longer working, They go by Sydney time, if you at a different state, and wondering it is not 10 pm yet, you know the clever boys at Ebay think all Australian Ebayers must adjust their clocks to Sydney time.

    • +9

wondering it is not 10 pm yet, you know the clever boys at Ebay think all Australian Ebayers must adjust their clocks to Sydney time.

AEST is clearly stated in the Terms and Conditions. Nothing clever (or misleading as you implied) about it.

  • 9:55pm I got "Paypal is not avialable at this time". Couldn't finalise and pay. Frustrating.

  • Only one item for me tonight.
DJI Spark Fly More combo $715

One month early birthday present to myself.

Hope you all got some bargains!

  • +2

The party is over. I am intoxicated.

  • +2

Well done on becoming the highest voted bargain ever!

  • -1

Ebay ruined my day! Missing out the PARTY18 by few seconds.

Do they usually do any promo during long weekend?

  • I spent way too much. Mostly for business but gosh these eBay deals are challenging when it comes to managing cash flow!

  • Caught some dodgy action going on. Get friends to buy fake auctions and split profits ?
    https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/wl2_lia/m.html?&LH_Complete=1
    https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/shamid203/m.html?&LH_Complete=1

    • Report to ebay… they will be banned sooner or later

  • Not much of a party. Didnt last long.

  • +1

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this deal post and those mods who updated the deal.

    • So did this become the biggest deal of the year, probably ever? I made a comment along those lines on Wednesday night and people didn't like it. I got down-voted. lol

      • It did. Look at the Ozbargain stats page.

        • Not sure where that is. Haha! I remember someone posting a link to that somewhere around here yesterday, but over 10 pages, that takes for ages to find.

        • +2
        • @scotty: Thanks, scotty. :)

        • @scotty:

Is that Historical Most Popular Deals list really working? We surely had much more popular deals to get into that list than https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/1480 , which it had 23 votes.

        • +1

@Sharp: The list is not the "top 20 deals of all time", but a history of number 1 deals. A new entry will be added when a new deal tops the current #1 entry, i.e. getting more than 2500+ votes.

  • +3

got 3 x hikvision security cams from a local perth business. He then rang not long after and said he would drop then of.
    Now that's service.

    • +1

Just saving on the shipping I bet. hahaha

      • +1

Now OP can do a charge back and get refund!

lol ok dont do that OP. That's bad!

Still waiting for 20% off storewide due to Amazon's imminent entry into the Australian market….

    ok I forgot…:(:(:(:(:(

  • Did cashrewards come through for people?

    • Not yet for me. Will send a query after 7 days if nothing comes through.

    • +2

I just got my cashrewards email for tracking. Purchase was made around 9pm 21/9.

      • Just got my tracking email too. Purchased around 8:50ish

  • grr… had 4 items in cart, made sure the right amount was in cart (discount looked correct) checked out, processed… then went back to check later, and only 3 of the 4 were purchased… the main item i wanted was still in cart, and the deal had finished when i realised… must be an omen i dont need stuff…

    • hmmm it seems the amount came out of my credit card, but the item isnt in MyEbay and the transaction is not in paypal either…

  • +13

Thank you to everyone that bought from us yesterday with the Party18 code.

We had one of our biggest single days on eBay so please bear with us, there might be an extra 1-2 day delay in your deliveries as we sync the eBay orders with our backend logistics.

Unfortunately, eBay's order feed doesn't always play nice and we have to manually sync some of the orders. It is as tedious as it sounds.

  • For future ozbargainers… got a Dell P2418D (seemingly the next edition of the popular P2416D) for $319.86

  • +1

    any Current Working Codes ?

  • +1

FYI: If you forgot to apply the discount (I don't know how I missed it), or the discount didn't apply to the items you bought, you can call up their customer service line and they'll manually apply the discount retrospectively.

Note that I bought within the time frame, just forgot to apply it. (D'oh).
