Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Pre-Order - Optus - $110/Month (30GB, Was $140/Month) - $127/Month (100GB, Was $167/Month)

280

Optus is offering some great deals on the Samsung Note 8 Pre-order.

$110/month (was $140/month)
30gb - unlimited calls and text - 750min for international calls - unlimited calls and text and 1gb/month data for international roaming.

$127/month (was $167/month)
100gb - unlimited calls and text - unlimited international calls - unlimited calls and text and 1.5gb/month data for international roaming.

If you are a student or have a .edu email address, you can get a further 10% off which will bring the price down to $100/month and $115 respectively.

Not bad prices considering the absolute cheapest you could possibly get the Note 8 at the moment is via ebay for ~$1200, which is equivalent to $50/month for 24 months. You'll then be hard pressed to find any sim only deals that offers the above inclusions for $50/month..

Obviously the Samsung Note 8 Pre-order offers apply - free wireless charger and free screen assurance.

hey dude, the 30gb plan was $130 and 100gb plan was $160.

    • That is correct. However, you'll have to add $10 (for the $130/month) And $7 (for the $160/month) for the phone.

oh i mean't you should update your post so it looks better.

        $110/month (was $140/month)
        $127/month (was $140/month)

          Oh yeh. Fixed. Thanks mate.

Would it still be eligible for 25% off - 2nd service account?

    • Not sure about this one. Would definitely be awesome if they also brought back that deal. Let us know if you manage to find this out and I'll add it to the original post! Cheers.

Can confirm it is. I had an offer from Optus waiting for 25% off second service. Used it to pre-order the Note 8. $130 was already discounted to $100 per month as an offer on the website and I then got 25% off that for second service, so will be paying $75 for the $130 plan with 30GB data, Optus sport/music/nat geo etc + Note 8. Thought it was a killer deal :)

      • Do you have to pay $10 on top of that to own the note 8? Or did you just go with the leasing plan?

        • If you want to own the phone, have to pay $10 on top of $75,so $85 per month all together.

        • Yeah as Solpiry said, $10 extra to own so $85 to own and $75 to lease

      • Can you also teather. Get epl. And net flix not metered ?

      • I had same deal from last time. $75+$10 per month. Please keepin mind. 25% is from second month.

      • Hi Jay, how'd you get the 25% off second service offer?
        Please see my posts below

    • I chat with optus sales team, they said deal was expired

      • I can still see it

    great

    subjective

    • Agreed.

I guess it seems great based on my own personal research as I compared the deals with other Telco offers as well as options of purchasing outright with sim only plans etc.

However I am very much more than happy to hear of other potentially better deals on offer.

      Thanks!

        Buy a phone that's cheaper than $1500RRP.

I'm done with Samsung, they've lost the plot

        • +1

Also Agreed! Haha. The prices of Apple and Samsung smart phones are getting out of control.. nevertheless, there will always be people out there who will want them (myself included) so I guess we will need to continue scouring the web for some 'great' deals.. lol

        • It IS less than $1500RRP. It's $1499RRP

      • Even you buy the phone separately and join the plan. I think this deal is still cheaper.

    😳

  • I wonder if it is Samsung that is figuring out the price is too high, or Optus (although their Virgin plans are reasonable)..

    • I'd say they're probably preparing their plans for the iPhone 8 pre-orders this afternoon..

i am waiting for iphone X..!

    • How much is that per month?

      • -8

no idea, but my thought is value for iphone X is better than note 8…

        • +1

That would vary from person to person. For me it would be the reverse.

But I am curious what they will charge for iPX.

          @lostn:

maybe there will be $50 increase on each note 8 plan for iphone X 256

        • he's correct. just look at resale value of iphone and samsung phones. miles apart.

          spec-wise? not so sure

        • @ZubatRingo: Do you judge value based on purchase price or resale price?

The resale value of BMWs and Mercs is poor.

        • @lostn: l judge it based on the quality of the item first. If my options are equally exorbitant, I'll factor in resale value as well. For most cars tho, the resale is poor. I thought Merc and been looking BMW have decent resale value down the line? Not sure tho, I go for cheap Hyundai's.

What do you do in this situation?

        • @ZubatRingo:

They have about the same resale value as other cars as a percentage, but because their initial price is so expensive, and all the extra bling you add to it doesn't add to resale value, the amount lost to depreciation in dollar value is higher than standard cars. It's good if you buy used though.

As for me, I don't look at resale value. I don't sell them, I pass them to other people.

If both phones are equally good, then resale value as you say is a factor. But two phones being exactly equally good is rare, and has never been the case for any two models I consider.

  • The pricing for the Note 8 is ridiculous. Who do Samsung think they are ? Especially after all the battery problems..

    • These are 30GB and 100GB plans though.

When they do something more realistic like a 3-7GB plan, the prices should be back down to $75 or less.

      • The 3GB plan on Telstra is still 95 dollars I think, but you get a free samsung tablet and the wireless charger.

        • They're not free, just factored into the plan cost.

When someone does a plan for 3GB with no bonus extras, I'd expect it to be $75 or less. Right now they're fleecing the early adopters who will pay anything. When that well dries up, they will go after the mainstream. I would expect the plan cost to be $5-10 more than an equivalent launch S8+ plan cost.

New iPhone X = $1800. Who do you think Apple is?

      • Exactly why when I get a new phone it isn't going to be from Samsung or Apple. They are just competing with each other to see who can sell a phone for more…

The IPhone X is just an iOS version (and at that, a worse model) of the Note 8/S8+.

        • Yep, that's what you gotta pay now for the best of the best. Although you can buy S8+ for $900 so really not sure what you are on about.

        • @OnlinePred: "best of the best" really is subjective. Personally, I don't like either of them. I might as well carry around an iPad mini and start calling from there.

        • +1

@pennypincher98: S8 is barely bigger than an iP7/8 lol. If you consider an iP7 like an iPad mini, I can't help you.

        • @OnlinePred: I believe you said

Although you can buy the S8+

I know an S8 isn't that big, but an S8+ is unnecessarily big. I have a 2 in 1 for if I want to watch movies and read books or whatever people do on those massive screens.

        • @pennypincher98: Then don't buy it lol. Why are you talking about a device you don't want to buy?

        • @OnlinePred: You told me I could buy the S8+ for $900 lol! I'm saying why I would put that money elsewhere.
$900 can get myself a good laptop/2 in 1 rather than the average one I have got now..

Were you considering getting an S8+ and an iPhone X? I highly doubt it so why were you talking about both?

        • @pennypincher98: You literally argued why someone would buy this phone. I told you that it's probably as someone wants to buy one of the best phones out there at the moment. You then said it was too big so I gave you options that are more than half the price of an iphone (S8 for <$800 local aus stock).

If you want to buy a laptop instead of a phone then that's your call. I mean why are you looking at this deal if you A) don't like Samsungs, B) don't like big phones?

        • @OnlinePred: please provide me evidence where I said I didn't like Samsungs. Also 'big' phones is subjective.

And in addition to this, I didn't question why anyone would buy it, I questioned why I would buy it.

        • @pennypincher98:

"Exactly why when I get a new phone it isn't going to be from Samsung or Apple. " You said you will not get a Samsung no matter what. That entails that you don't like Samsung.

Anyway nice chat. Off topic now.

        • @OnlinePred: Agree it is a fair bit off-topic, but I'll have you know I still think the S7 is a great phone. Would most likely pick it over the S8 because it still has some body to it.

      • Wow.

How many GBs is the $1800 model?

    • +2

thats great to know … see you in the xiaomi threads ..

  • Preordered Day 1. I wonder if I can still migrate to this price. 😣😣😣

    • Optus allows you to cancel pre-orders. So if they won't allow you to migrate to this price, just cancel your pre-order and then pre-order again now. :)

  • Hey where did you see the offer for the free screen assurance? Just wanted to save a copy of that somewhere.

  • Hi All,
Could someone explain the 25% discount for me. I currently have the 100Gb $70pm mBB plan with Optus. Do I qualify for the second plan? If not where can I find out more or qualify?

How do I obtain the 10% student discount?
    Are the discounts cumulative?

I know this is cheeky but one has to ask… with the 25% discount I'm in already for sure.

    • I believe 25% off is only for adding additional mobile number. If you don't have current optus mobile number, you can't get 25% off. For more detail, better try optus chat or call.

      • I have tried optus on chat and they're telling me that the 25% discount does not apply to this offer, that it only applies only to SIM services. I didn't mention what my existing service was just that I was a customer.

The mBB comes with a functional mobile number as well if that helps.

Can anyone who's claimed to have received a 25% discount clarify how you achieved it?

        Many thanks

        • Called Optus and they said '25% off deal has expired on Aug 27'…?

        • That's incorrect information from chat staff. I applied 25% off from same deal end of last month. Some staffs are not educated well about their products. I suggest you to stop by store and chat to them directly. This is what I did and asked some bonus gift.

        • @solpiry:
Hi Sol, thanks for your response, the information could be correct if you did it "end of last month", exactly what date did you do it? Deal ended 27 Aug, so end of the month almost. I'll call the store today regardless.

        • @Ted Sanchez The1st: yes, last sale ended on 27th and I joined 26th but that sale was not for 25% off. Only for price drop of plan from $130 to $100 sale. I didnt check 25% off sale period for 2nd service.

  • Hey guys, was thinking about leasing a note 8. Anyone else lease through Optus and if so, what are your thoughts/pros/cons, please?

  • hi i would like to apply the student promo code. if anyone has a code could you please pm me the email address and the code. I would greatly appreciate your help.

  • i hope that they would bring back the 25%off family and friends or the 2nd service promo…

Has anyone received the email "Your Optus Mobile Device is on its way" with "Your Device has been dispatched from our warehouse and will be with you soon" in the body? When I click through it doesn't give me any shipping/tracking details, it just says in progress. What does yours say?

    • Same here! Ordered on the 19th still no confirmation. Called optus they are saying my order hasn't been processed yet. Annoying really
