No Foreign Transaction Fees (i.e. Use ANY Mastercard/Visa & Avoid Foreign Transaction Fees) via DiviPay Virtual Mastercard

1710

This is an ongoing benefit with no specific end date. The waiver of forex fees is an ongoing benefit. However, there will be a 2% funding fee charged in the future (after the beta period) as per kungbernard's comment (from the T&Cs).

This was previously posted but has been marked expired for over a month. It also, for some reason, did not receive a very positive response. I suspect it's because the benefits were not highlighted clearly.

I've used DiviPay a few times now to make overseas transactions instead of 28 Degrees. I also don't have a Credit Card that both waives foreign transaction fees and earns me points, so this, for me, is the only way I can earn points and have forex fees waived.

Really good for when you're buying stuff off Gearbest, Geekbuying etc. which are priced in USD.

I've found their exchange rates to be incredible, for example..

I bought this Xiaomi Mi Band 2 posted, priced at USD $14.44, estimated to be (in the title) at $18.11 AUD. xe.com showed $17.92. I was charged $17.94.

Why don't you just use 28 Degrees/Citibank?

Because you don't earn any points. Yes you could use one of the other cards that earn you points and waive overseas transaction fees (e.g. Coles Rewards, Bankwest Qantas/More Platinum, CBA Diamond/Platinum, ANZ Travel Adventures), but this allows you to use any Credit Card. This means you could use a card that earns you points at a better rate (or a more valuable currency of points) than one of the ones I listed.

In addition, if you don't have a CC and can't (or don't want to) apply for one, this is another way for you to have forex fees waived.

DiviPay market themselves as being useful for splitting transactions with friends, but I find them most useful simply for waiving overseas transaction fees, being able to top up with any Mastercard/Visa and being able to earn full points on the transactions. They also market themselves on the basis of anonymity - i.e. you can use a "virtual" Mastercard to make payments without revealing your real Credit Card details.

If your item is ~$15.50 AUD, just top up $16 and get a refund for the unused amount. You'll probably get points on $16 worth of spend rather than $15, because the $0.50 refund won't trigger a points reversal*!
*Depends on how points are calculated by your Credit Card provider.

Summary:

  • Open Account
  • Enter Credit Card Details into "Profile" section - this will be your funding card - only Mastercard/Visa accepted at this stage
  • Create Virtual Personal or Group Card (you need to specify value for group cards)
  • Fund account (can only be funded once) with required amount
  • Use Mastercard to make payments online, particularly useful for transactions in foreign currency
  • Obtain refund of unused amount. Refund will go back to funding card (I believe)

There are other little quirky things about it - some of which I have not figured out, others of which will make this post too long if I include everything! But their FAQ section is pretty good and my link below has some additional info.

        • @illumination: That's interesting! Well after I funded $15 to a couple of virtual cards I was logged out and couldn't log back in. Tried resetting password and got no password reset email.

I only got an email response from Daniel yesterday, who explained the use of prepaid cards flagged fraudulent activity. He said sending a screenshot of transactions of the card (showing Divipay transactions) would suffice to unfreeze my account. I've done this but my account is still frozen.

So you managed to use up a $100 prepaid card and then changed your funding card without a problem? How many times have you changed the funding source?

        • @marquise:

Hm interesting. So prepaid cards are allowed, but it just flags something? I think that's fair enough, although a little annoying.

I think I used a prepaid card but I don't remember if I actually did.

But yes, if memory serves me correctly, I did it once, funded my account with a prepaid card and then changed to another Credit Card. I've primarily switched between two Credit Cards as my funding cards and that prepaid card (if I actually did use it) just once.

        • @illumination: Perhaps if I had just funded the whole $100 to one virtual card I would not have had any issues. Instead I did this:
          Card 1: Fund $10
          Card 2: Fund $15
          Card 1: Fund $5

        • @marquise: Yea I definitely didn't do that.

I'm curious to know if your account will get unsuspended. It actually kind of worries me.

        • @illumination: Fortunately (as far as I can tell) the funds were returned to my prepaid Mastercard and I hadn't started to use the service yet.

  • At last, a proper explain.

  • These guys fraud system is as annoying as Paypal, customer service is a joke which takes many days to response to your email regarding account access. I don't think it is worth the hassle with these guys. Also their whole idea is regarding split bill payment hence the name divipay. I don't really think that idea works with all these hassles especially if they have 2% loading charge.

As a warning, you should treat these kind of service like Paypal. i.e NEVER leave any fund in their account, only fund it when you need to use it and use it right away. Same as Paypal, never leave money in the account because if they decided to limit your account access it is a real hassle to get in touch with them to get your account re-instated.

  • Hi Divipay,

Could you please consider adding 2FA as a login option?

    • +1

Hi, thanks for your feedback. Definitely, we are looking into adding an optional 2FA login step for those who wish to use it. If you have any other feedback please dont hestitate to contact me on [email protected]

  • Does anyone have any idea if they've started to accept Amex or PayPal again yet? Couldn't locate that nugget of information on their website. Thanks!

    • Still just Mastercard or Visa.

      • Cool, thanks mate. I’m sure the pickup would increase exponentially if Amex was accepted haha

        • +1

Hi, as mentioned we still only accept Mastercard and Visa, however we are looking into accepting different funding mechanisms. Our priority at the moment is to enhance product usability and payment features. We will be sure to make an announcement in the future if we do expand our funding methods.

  • Do the two small test payments that were taken from my credit card, when I opened my Divipay account, get refunded?

    • Yes

  • when will you add cash back and amex support?

    • Is there a reason you expect cashback?

Their offer is pretty compelling as it is and I think there's already sufficient value in their product as is.

Not that I wouldn't like cashback..

  • Anyone looked into paying the ATO with it?

Got a bill to pay. My cc's will no longer give out points for ato payments.

@ 20000 ~ x earn rate of cc at 0.15% surcharge, I see this as a no brainer for 15k points for a tax refundable $30 fee?

Can anyone spot any problems, or would loading this amount on Divipay be an issue?

  • Still dont know what is the daily limit.

I got caught out trying to do an $500 transaction which was declined. I combined all the prepaid visa cards.
    Had to it next day.

Also not sure how it would work with larger purchases.

    • +1

I'm trying to pay my taxes $1000 at a time. Will see how this goes.

The moneys been taken from my CC instantly, but the payment hasn't been received by the ATO straight away, so this might be a slow burn. Will update to give people an idea of it this is a feasible idea.

If it ends up working out, at 0.4% surcharge, its still worth it for me cos its 15000 points for $80 of tax deductible surcharge fees. My card is $0.75 QFF per point spent so if you can get your hands on a 1:1 card, this could be quite lucrative, just very slow

Edit 1: You can only pay $995 or so at a time, + the $3.98 fee

      • +1

I was looking to make a $3k transaction which is not possible currently.
I think this is a great product and would be happy to pay a surcharge if it works without any daily limits and greater than $1k at a time.

      • Thanks for the tip! Just noticed site has been stopped for 7 days with below alert:

DiviPay is temporarily paused: Our virtual card partner is experiencing a temporary outage with their card issuing platform. Unfortunately this means that we need to put DiviPay on pause whilst they address these issues. We expect to be live again in the next 7 days. Please note you can refund any outstanding balances by clicking 'close and refund'.

        • yeh frustrating. Got a fair bit more to pay, but was stopped by first their daily limit, then this shit. Not the best first experience tbh.

  • Hi!
What name do people put in fortransactions?
Also has anyone used for free trial of
    Netflix
    Foxtel Now
    Stan
    Spotify
    Apple music
    Ect
    Ect
    Thanks

    • What name do people put in fortransactions?

      Put your own name.

It shouldn't really matter though. I could probably put Clarky77 and it'd be fine.

I've tried it for free trial of Netflix and Spotify. Not the others.

      • Thanks,
With Netflix did you put in your name or random one?

        • Can't remember. I think I put real. But it shouldn't matter?

  • I tried to deposit but website is saying daily limit reached and transactions won't be approved until 12pm tomorrow?
    Had this happened before?

    • I think DiviPay are limited by their bank on how much they can transact. I had a similar issue a few months back and ended up getting a call from them to explain the problem.

  • Our virtual card partner is experiencing a temporary outage with their card issuing platform. Unfortunately this means that we need to put DiviPay on pause whilst they address these issues.

We expect to be live again in the next 7 days.

Please rest assured that all funds are safe. If you want to refund your available balance, simply close your virtual card and the refund will be processed within 5 business days.

What does this mean for me?
    * You will not be able to create new virtual cards
    * You will not be able to add funds to or make payments from existing virtual cards
    * You can refund any available funds from DiviPay by closing your virtual card

There's no question that this is completely inconvenient for you. We are incredibly disappointed that we have hit this speed bump. The engineering team and I are working closely with our virtual card partner to assist them in any way we can.

We will email you as soon as we are live again but if you have any questions in the meantime please live chat with us or send me an email me directly at [email protected].

    Best regards,

    Daniel and the DiviPay team

    • Yea. Pretty sad.

    • Hi, We are currently undergoing a migration to a new card issuing partner. During this time (approx 3 months) existing DiviPay virtual cards will not work for online transactions. However we are excited to announce that with this upgrade we will be able to deliver a product that is infinitely better than the last and launch a number of new and highly requested features. Please let me know if you have any questions.

  • 3 months. Good job guys. You better offer decent incentives when its up and running, or you've lost a customer

    • It does sound like their improvements will definitely make their product better than before. Hopefully they really will be able to get it done in their stated 3 month time frame..!

    • Hi, we are working hard and the entire team's focus is on completing the migration as quickly as possible. There are number of moving parts and some third parties we are reliant on but are striving to get the system back within the 3 months. We will be sure to keep everyone posted with our progress. I can ensure you that our new product will be infintely better than the last with a number of new product features including mobile payments, real time transaction notifications and importantly the assurance that all payments work all of the time.

With DiviPay out of action for the moment while they sort out a new virtual card issuer, are their any alternatives in this space? I've got a decent sized tax bill to pay shortly and had been planning on making use of Divipay to pay it (lower transaction fees for Mastercard with the ATO, and to the issuer of the card I'd use to top up the virtual card it wouldn't look like ATO spend and so would earn points).

    RewardPay for American Express.

    Latest update:

    Hi Underlord,

I am writing to let you know that there will be further delay in relaunching the DiviPay security product. We anticipate the service will not be live again until early 2019.

Integrating into a new provider has come with a set of both commercial and technical challenges. These challenges have been compounded with the introduction of additional third parties whose services we require in order to relaunch the product. Unfortunately we are currently constricted by the timelines and priorities of these parties.

    What you need to know
    • The DiviPay security product will be relaunched early 2019
    • The DiviPay security platform will remain open to view transaction history
    • If you still have funds remaining on your DiviPay cards please contact the team at [email protected] to organise a refund.

Thank you for your patience over the last few months. The team remains optimistic and are working in close collaboration with the multitude of third parties to get the program live again. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions, concerns or comments.

    Best regards,

    Daniel and the DiviPay team
