The extended trilogy will be out soon. They are getting rid of this stock.

Isn't this trilogy long enough, without being extended? LOL :D

Personally, I'm happy with this set for my collection. Especially for the less than the price as just one bought individually. At the moment JB sells the set for $79.98 or each part $33.99.

ETA: On checkout mine came to $32.

Very cheap but the user ratings due to no extended version:
    5 star: (89)
    4 star: (19)
    3 star: (16)
    2 star: (15)
    1 star: (358)

Avg. 1.92555 or as Amazon puts its 2 stars.

I'll wait for extended version as thats what the nerds say to do. And then wait for the extended version to be this price.. the OzB way ;)

You're willing to listen to those that worship Gollum and elves? :D

      • +15

Well… he did give the average rating to 5 decimal places ;)

        • I was surprised to see 2 stars after seeing 358 next to 1, so I checked… so I'm a nerd too ;) David Spade says nerds are taking over the world

Got dvds better wait for extended version.

    UK£ 60.81 = 97.9123134 Australian dollars

Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Theatrical Version) [Blu-ray] ~ Elijah Wood Blu-ray £17.83
    Harry Potter Collection - Years 1-6 [Blu-ray] ~ Daniel Radcliffe Blu-ray £24.99
    The Complete Matrix Trilogy [Blu-ray] [1999] ~ Keanu Reeves Blu-ray £17.99

    NICE!

    • Do you think the Harry Potter will look better than the DVDs?
      Really tempted with that price

  • I read the Amazon UK reviews. It seems the video quality of a lot of the blurays are not that great.

  • Meh picked up a copy, have never seen the films so bout time I did. Don't think I'd want the extended versions coz they seem long enough!

  • The video quality on my DVDs is comparable to these Blu-Rays, Wait until they do them properly

As someone who owns the extended edition on dvd, I'd recommend waiting for the extended edition. Yes, the series is long, but the extended scenes really do add to the story. I myself didn't read the books and not really a LOTR nerd, but I do love the movies, and I highly prefer the extended editions to the theatrical version.

Read the books dude, seriously! :)

If you liked the movies, you'll love the books; as is the case with all book to movie translations, there's a considerable amount of story detail that simply cannot be included, or each part would be nine hours long! :o

      • Well, I for one didn't really miss Tom Bombadil

        • You missed a lot more than that if the only omission you can remember is TB! ;)

Interesting. I had a marker on uk.camelcamelcamel.com for price checking on this item, seems it changed from 24.99 pound to 17.83 at 2am.
It was only a matter of time before this happened. It could be the persistence of people (including me) that refused to double dip, meaning they had to drop prices. But it's a pretty big drop. Maybe the extended editions are coming sooner rather than later? It was finally announced that Peter Jackson has had the green light to direct The Hobbit, maybe that has something to do with it?
Originally there were rumors that said the extended would be released around or at the same time as The Hobbit hits theaters. Still a long time away.
Whether to buy now and not have to wait, if indeed you may have to wait a long time for extended editions.
Or have them announce extended editions are coming sooner than usual shortly after purchasing which would suck.
Or just hold out, whether it be months or years…
Either way.. The deal is tempting.. What are you guys going to do?

    • still the same movie, if i wanted them i'd buy them, although I'm in no rush so would wait for the extended editions and dont want to have to buy two sets…

    Good value no matter what.

ITs a good deal but I will wait for the extended edition.

Great Deal - Already put my order in! For all those out there that are fence sitting, all I can say is that THESE are the films that you waited in line for hours to see on Boxing Day. Plus in the highest definition to date. Good enough for me! Thanks for posting the find!

  • The extended version was only worth it because we get to see Salomon die in the most hilarious way. LOL Otherwise the extended scenes aren't really worth it, I'll be grabbing this.

    • rubbish, the EE is the only choice I would make to watch an OLD FILM again.

Both Amazon UK and US are showing 1 star rating protest so its the single most logical step for a movie lover that lives on a limited paycheck!

  • It is 31.89 AUD before the final step of ordering (as of today as it may change because of the exchange rate)

  • I like Amazon UK. They deduct VAT for international orders. I don't think The Hut does.

The Inception Limited Edition Bluray (preorder) is worth looking at too.

    • the triple play version of Inception is tempting,

Anyone know if amazon charge extra for sending two parcels cause inception not coming out till Dec.

  • Is it possible to order straight from Amazon.uk ??

    • what do you mean ?

      • I've heard they only ship in to Europe. How am I to order something to Aus?

    • they post to australia, hence all the positive votes and comments here.

you might be thinking of electronics and larger items which are only posted in uk.

  • They will charge two parcels if they need two parcels. You can buy lotr and inception now and have them wait for a combined shipping order i believe. Still need to pay a bit more for extra items but its very reasonable and is why i always purchase in BULK.

  • Cheap but I've waited a long time now, bit more won't hurt so I'll hold out for extended, I loved my DVD set but sold 'em all a couple years back to fund my bluray collection, made great money for them back then on ebay.

  • Getting one right away…

  • No money and haven't got a new TV so will wait until extended out and both the normal & extended version price down so I can grab'em all.

But most of all, I wish to see LOTR trilogy in the theater again. I did a movie marathon once and it's much better than watching DVDs.

  • Does anyone know if amazon.uk do the price guarantee thing that amazon.us do? I bought the trilogy about 3 weeks ago for 25 pounds.. might as well see if i can get a discount.

    • I be interested to know this to, I bought stuff that have dropped like 24hrs later.
