Updated Thanks
Might be a silly question but is this covered by Australian consumer law with regards to returns and warranty etc?
Yes as it's Australian Stock shipped from Australia :)
And as such is not dual-sim as offered in grey imports.
But it has the Exynos chipset, which is apparently a bit faster.
@Make it so: True. I read somewhere that you can flash a ROM to make Aussie S8 dual-SIM capable. Can anyone confirm?
@ranagade: Not sure the SIM tray would play ball, even if the software did.
@Make it so: Photo link not working.
@ranagade: Works for me…
What I'm trying to say is that for dual-sim models, the SIM tray has a different shape for the bit holding the SD-card, so that it could hold a second sim. The Australian model does not have this. I suspect the Australian hardware may not be set up to read a second SIM.@Make it so: Thanks for the explanation.
Does this still have the best camera for an Android phone, of this physical size? I understand the new Note might be better but the phone itself is physically too big for what I want.
Appreciate any thoughts :)Yes, it still has one of the best camera's in the mobile world, especially with it's super-fast autofocus (probably the fastest on any phone). Plus, has pro/manual mode, for all the camera geeks to explore. :)
It's an Optus branded phone, FYI.
Yes, but still unlocked (any sim card will work). You can always hand the phone over to a Samsung kiosk and they'll flash the unlocked (XSA) software if you are unhappy with the Optus one.
I bought one and flashed XSA on it. Once you flash XSA, all Optus branding is gone. Quite easy to do.
Which instructions did you follow?
Mine is Optus branded, but it doesn't really bother me. I'm with Optus anyway :)
It's not the physical phone, just a startup screen and there's an Optus app.I followed this guide. https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/how-to/official-…
Honestly, it was so simple. It took less than 10 minutes. I did it straight-out-of-the-box, so didn't have to worry about the part where is says about activating the PIN.
I then just put my partners S6 next to the S7 and did the transfer wizard via Bluetooth, come back a while later and it was all setup. I am an iPhone user, but was really impressed with how simple it all was. Phone not bad either. :)
Does the phone get dual-SIM capability after flashing?
NO. Australian model does not have this function. You benefit from direct OTA updates - not having to wait for carrier to release.
I purchased one from the last deal for my partner. Received within a few days. When I had a question, staff were very helpful via email. Highly recommended seller.
I purchased this recently
Dont even notice the optus branding.
Sexy phpneVery good deal.
I do think maybe i could have paid less and bought a grey s8+ but at least i have piece of mind if aus warrantyIt's worth the extra man. Coming from an unlucky person with grey import phones, you lose out if anything goes wrong.
I usually get imports. But with all the stories of people needing screen replacements (screen being fragile) made me get him an Australian model this time round. I also got him the LifeProof case as he just dumps his phone down anywhere.
Unfortunately I believe that the 20,000 Qantas points ended 31 August
