GTX 1050 (esp. non-TI) isn't capable of gaming at 4K resolution. It will be pretty to look at, but the framerates will be really poor.

This does seem to be specced as a content creation laptop, especially with its 1TB SSD.

    • Yeah the only way to properly game with 4K on AAA titles is going to be if you utilise the TB3 port and an external card. Even then it's going to be hard because the performance of the external card being impacted if it's using the built in screen.

You could always game at 1080p, which would still look very good at 15". Then again I'm not a fan of gaming on laptops have killed 2 through too much gaming (including a high spec XPS 15, back in the day), I'd only run intensive games on a dedicated gaming laptops.

this is a great work laptop though, especially if you are into graphics.

  • WoW, Great Price

INC aus warranty for 1 year I believe

    • No, those are the last gen 9550's. 6th gen CPU, and 9xx GPU. Without local warranty I wouldn't touch one though.

There's definitely 9560s in the mix, saw 3 yesterday, and there's still 1 in there today.

      • if you purchase "Next Business Day On-site Response Service" you will be able to get it serviced here

  • That is a good price, if you're willing to take into account the risk on refurb and warranty.

The refurbs directly from Dell Outlet are only 1x year warranty as well, so July 2018 (10x months) vs. Sept 2018 (12x months) isn't too big of a difference. I think the best price I saw on this spec "As New" from Dell Outlet was $2.6k.

In terms of TB3 and external GFX, the 9560 only has 2x TB3 lanes running, and not all 4x lanes.

Having said that, there's a few mentions of people getting 9560's up and running with external graphics.

    Be careful with this laptop
    Lots of frequent BSOD issue

If it had a 1060 I would maybe maybe consider it.

If it had a 1070 I would most likely jump on it.

If it had a 1080 it would be a steal.

And well if it had a 1080ti I would question it heavily because the power needed would be insane.

But a 1050.. It's kinda pushing it especially for 4k, No deal.

Although this is a nice 4k YouTube, Netflix, media consumption etc screen and device for gaming it would be strictly limited to 1080p unless you find a really low specced 4k game.

The 1tb PCIe SSD and 4k screen paired with the GTX 1050 makes me heavily question it, I mean can you even content create 4k stuff with a 1050?

Even if it had just a 1080p screen this is a weird combo and a bit overpriced considering the past ripper deals we have seen here.

  • Yeah looked at this a while back for the Mrs but the XPS 15 range has no numeric keypad and she's an accountant and refused to carry a USB/Bluetooth one saying they really should be standard as they always have been on 15" laptops.

Can't say I disagree in a way but I'm assuming it's missing because there's simply no room for it because the chassis is smaller.
