Zelda: BOTW & Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle on Nintendo Switch - $111.96 + Delivery (or Click and Collect for $0) @ The Gamesmen

540

Gamesmen already had this bundle on sale for $139.95c, but with the 20% off in stock items promo (thanks for the heads up denpol85) they have going today, it makes this duo quite a bargain if you want to buy these games today (like myself), especially if you live close and can click and collect (which'll save you on delivery costs).

Delivery cost me $6.95c for standard delivery (tracked), so $118.91c delivered all up for me, but ymmv in this respect.

Not bad for two Wii U games. When I get a Switch I'll be getting Switch games but if you don't have these Wii U titles yet then it's a great price.

    • Played BOTW on Wii U, great experience.

Am excited to replay it (and the DLC) on the Switch and to see the improvements.

    • Not bad for the superior versions of both games (not just graphically with res or framerate either)

      • +2

Wii U version should have been better.
The sheikah slate was obviously supposed to be displayed on the gamepad.

        • Yes but it runs prettily in comparison to Switch version already. Watching my son play it on WiiU felt like my eyes should have been bleeding.

        • +1

Personally I'm amazed how good it looks on Wii U (and the performance updates were a nice little body). A truly capable little system in the end given it's heritage.

Upscaling on my Panasonic plasma does it wonders though, and I'll definitely revisit it through emulation one day in the future to see how good it can look.

        • @xdirex: Yeah damn spellcheck, my last post was supposed to say poorly not prettily, lol. It runs much nicer on Switch.

Did they fix the framerate drop and stuttering on the Switch version?

I prefer the CEMU version, superior than both the Wii U and Switch version graphically.

        • You mean the part in the forest where the master sword is? Yeah. Problem with CEMU is you're on a PC.

          @Where's_That_Cake:

Yep, that same PC that has access to the best exclusives, the best VR solutions, and a fantastic amount of emulators of many of the best consoles in history. Get's used much more than my Wii U or 3DS ever does.

Look at the smooth CEMU gameplay:

        • @FabMan: I didn't know you got PlayStation games on PC? Sweet.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: Sure, emulated PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 gaming at higher than original visuals. PC also has access to PS Now, a solution to Stream PS3 and PS4 games to PC players. But the PC in the living room sits next to my PlayStation 4, so I've got those too.

I'm a Nintendo fan, so I hope no-one cried when someone pointed out their favourite Switch games are ports.

Since it was pointed out by yourself the Switch version has superior fps and resolution, I wanted to point out, there is a version with better resolution and fps is improving with updates to CEMU.

          PS Now. https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=we…

        • @FabMan: I'm not a Nintendo fan, I have and like the Switch though. I don't see how BoTW is a port personally as (like I said initially) it is more than a graphical upgrade, it also has features that are not on the WiiU version at all and was released at the same time, same with MK8D actually (in terms of content). Good luck with PS4 games on PC though, also PS Now is awful.

        • @Where's_That_Cake:

BotW and MK8D are both ports, nothing wrong with that, but they are. Both games extra Switch features are nothing significant, MK8D has at least some notable features but nothing people should be upgrading from the Wii U version for. As for graphics, CEMU on the PC has both the Wii U and Switch topped, plus mods have been released and more are being developed.

Hey, you made the joke about not having access to PlayStation games, when PC does have access to the best exclusives. All those PlayStation games, XBox One games with Windows 10, emulated consoles and the PC games itself.

        • @FabMan: No, you misunderstand me. PS Now doesn't work in Australia, we have no servers here. The latency is awful. I have a good gaming rig, I only but it 5 weeks ago and it's just another Chrome browser and Plex server now. I like a lot about steam but I can never seen to get into the platform. As for the piracy of emulators, well even our phones do that so it's nothing to write home about.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: 4K resolution emulation is available on phones? CEMU emulation is available on phones? Nope. Emulators aren't impressive? Taking classic games, vastly improving visuals, adding new content with mods all by reverse engineering code is impressive. Porting them to the smartphone is fantastic.

Switch games are definitely nothing to write home about, Splatoon 2 is about it, the rest is on the Wii U, on the PC as indie games or are crap.

        • @FabMan: Arms is one of my favourite games this year. Not sure what you didn't like about it, did you try it online?
Then there's Mario x Rabbids which has excellent reviews across the board. You need to move on with the Switch has no games tripe, it does. There's more every week.

Also I don't think 4k is that impressive, I got suckered in like everyone else, bought an OLED 4K 65" and a LED 49" and was initially impressed. After seeing a friend's 120" 1080p projector I moved across to that in my media room and for me the double sided screen murders the benefits of 4k right now.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: Na, so it is good then?

It looks like a game that would be fun two player standing right next to each other, but not by yourself, even if online.

I saw Switch fans regularly boast of Bomberman, after seeing that enough times, I thought Switch fans are delusional. Mario x Rabbids might be a fun game, but the Rabbids characters greatly irritate me, I think they are very unfunny, remind me of Minions that also highly irritate me. Small dumb creatures trying to be cute by speaking babble and chaotically getting things done.

So that 4K TV is what I am after, not even HDR is impressive on it?

        • +1

@FabMan: Online is amazing, it's by far the best way to play. We're running a league over at WP on it and having a blast.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: How to trial it? Need to find someone with it and play it, since I can't see a Switch in stores.

      • What do you mean? Apart from resolution and framerate BotW is identical on Switch and Wii U. MK8 Wii U has exactly the same content except for battle mode and a few extra racers. The tracks are the same.

        • It's actually not identical, do some googling.

        • Maybe you should because you're actually wrong. BotW is the same in content. MK8 is only different in what I've pointed out in my previous post. Sounds to me like you have a Switch bias.

        • @Yuri Lowell: actually you might be right, I heard that WiiU was missing some features like Heroes Path on Reddit but I can't find anything saying it isn't there.

On the other hand you kinda dismissed the best part about MK8D straight off the bat. The main criticism of MK8 was no battle mode, they pimped it right out on Switch. Both versions of these games are better on Switch than the dead WiiU though, you can't argue with that.

  • Is this still a good deal if you include shipping? What if you bought these on a target eBay sale? I'm asking out of curiosity and not discrediting the deal

    • +2

Okay I've done my own research (Which I should of done originally before asking) If you were to wait & get lucky for a Target Ebay deal on both titles. Zelda BoTW around $66 & Mario Kart 8 Deluxe $59. Thats around $125 and you have to wait for a promotion. This is a good deal imo shipping factor included.

      • Good research :) It definitely looks like an awesome deal considering the longevity of Nintendo's game pricing.

        • Yes agreed about Nintendo's pricing. Never really depreacciates unless they do a 'Selects' but thats usually years after release. I'm burning through money faster then I'm earning it atm so I might pass, as much as I don't want to.

        • @brendanAUS: your research convinced me and i dont have a switch yet too.. :)
also bought an extra pair of joycon which come down to $96

  • +4

I don't even have a Switch yet and I just bought this 👍

    • I would be in the same scenario if I decide to buy it haha XD

      • +1

It was too good of a deal to pass up, considering the savings. Now I just need a good switch deal

        • I almost bit the bullet on the amazon deal. Didn't, now hoping & praying for a decent odyssey bundle.

        • @brendanAUS: I'll get an Odyssey bundle and Fire Emblem and perhaps Splatoon 2 (but probably not tbh)

        • @Putnum:
Splatoon is seriously addictive. It looks dumb / kiddy but it's a lot of fun, and if you don't like it it'll sell on Ebay for 90% of what you paid.

  • Is this just the 2 standard games? Seems expensive.

  • +1

I have to say I'm damn pleased that gamesmen are still around in this day and age of digital media… I used to buy games from them when I was in high school over 2 decades ago…. (I grew up in the area) nostalgia ftw!! Lolll

    • I remember when Gamesmen used to run ads on primetime TV…..good times.

  • +1

One fat impulse buy on my part! But I'm glad that I did purchase them! Thanks OP!

Was going to wait to shop for christmass deals on these two games and others + mario oddessey (of course,) but this seemed too good to pass up (especially compared to amazon and Best Buy (or any other online retailer out there.)

  • Looks like I can still order this - it will just be back ordered? Do you think they will honor that or just get refunded?

    • Oh they'll back order for you, but the question is will they process the order with the coupon applied once more stock arrives, or will they refund your order?

The coupon code was for store items in stock, so potentially they could refund your order before processing it once more stock arrives.

Does the code still apply automatically at checkout?

I'd advise normally to contact the store, but considering they're closed, it really depends whether or not you want to take the punt or not and potentially have your cash tied up for a period on an order which in the end may be refunded (they may go through with it too, it'll be ultimately at their discretion).

If you do proceed, goodluck mate.

      • yeah still thinking .. I'm looking at this and the splatoon pro controller.

  • Moar please!
