"One off $10 sim card fee applies."

    That's gross!

Also be careful not to be hit with excess data charges. When exceeded, its $10 for 1GB blocks of data.

      • Excess data charges only apply if you have a prepaid balance on your account. At least from my experience. I had used up my data allowance and the internet simply stopped working. They didn't charge for excess data because I had no prepaid balance on my account.

Pretty much every telco charges that price. Nothing out of the usual.

    • I think it's normal, most Telcos charges $10 for the SIM delivery. I've just ported out from $20 per month TPG plan to Spintel $23.95 plan. 1.5gig of data is just not enough for me.

Kogan does free SIMs (and setups) actually, so does Lycamobile (however Lyca is not as popular on Ozbargain). Click here to see a list of top voted mobile plans.

Fewer providers are now charging a SIM setup fee nowadays.

Tpg will charge you for porting out….

    • +7

Was going to come here and say this. I tried to talk my way out of it when I moved on. They wouldn't budge.

      • how much?

      • +4

Exactly the same here. I ported out two numbers. Got hit with $11 "farewell fee" for each number and also forfeited $20 compulsory prepaid balance in both accounts. So all together I lost $62 dollars for being their loyal postpaid customer for over 3 years. I wouldn't have minded going back to TPG after my current 12 months prepaid voucher expired - but hey, why would I want to be charged again for a new sim+ $11 when I decide to leave + $20 forfeited prepaid balance. What a shortsighted business practice.

        • +1

I was able to get my 2x $11 and remaining prepaid balance credited to my account since I still have adsl2+ with them. Mention the TIO and you might have some luck.

Why do you think they're so rich? It's certainly not because of the world class service they provide.

    • +6

TPG slaps you with ridiculous fees for terminating any service with them, contract or no, and of course they never bother telling you about it until they hit you and tell you to read the fine prints. Scum.

    Haha TPG… no thanks.

  • +6

big no to TPG, their customer service and terms when you port out are gross.

  • thank you all for the porting comments!

"Got hit with $11 "farewell fee" for each number"
Making sure customers never return? Nutz..

    • +3

Yes same with me, but because I was with them from 2011 I was successful in salvaging my $20 deposit and $11 porting out fee last month after I threatened them with a TIO complaint. This was thanks to the OZB community for giving me the knowledge to overturn it. I don't think I can ever recommend these guys

      • I just processed a churn to Jeenee a few days ago, still in progress.
I wasn't aware of the "farewell fee", but now I'm expecting it?

Any tips on how to dispute it? My TPG invoices date back to 2009 on my account.

$10 for the SIM delivery, plus $11 port out fee is enough for me to neg this deal, as most people will only want it for the 6 months, this effectively adds almost $4 per month to the cost.

These guys a scumbags - avoid like the plague. My mother is on their pay as you go plan and they charged her over $1/min for 1800 (supposedly free) calls. Even their standard mobile rate is only 9.9c per min.

Complained and they try to tell me she is not on the "PAYG" plan which doesn't charge for 1800 calls(because her plan is called "Pay as You Go", which is apparently different to PAYG), but it isn't different to the "Pay as You Go Budget" plan which does charge. Next stop is TIO.

BTW - I have complained about port out and refund of prepayments and they have always refunded. It is frankly anti-competitive behavior and I doubt the TIO will look at it favourably.

They also called my house once our area had NBN connected back in July trying to scare us into signing up for NBN by saying the phone lines and internet will be disconnected within 2 months once NBN commences. Absolute scumbags…

  • do they have access to all of vodafones towers? or just selected amount?

  • +1

Beware of $20 prepayment on signing up. They no longer call it a deposit so you will have a hard time to get it back on porting out.

  • Totally Pathetic Garbage.
