      Must be the Chinese version.

      Orchid is the new grey.

since roses are known for being gold.

      • No it's black and blue!

Bugs me when I see "Gray" not "Grey".

    • Dual Tone colour - its got a tinge of Pink against a sandy grey colour

Is this an AU one for warranty purposes?

    • +9

There is no way you will find AU stock for this price.

For what it's worth, bought a MacBook Air from one of their last deals on a Tuesday evening and had it delivered Friday. So their delivery is faster than a lot of domestic shops.

  • Shopmonk or mobileciti estore?
    what are other buyers experience?

    • Stay away from Mobileciti, I hope TA doesn't see this comment

    • Can't Compare - Shopmonk is Singapore based and "Grey" Imported stock. MobileCiti is Australian Store in Parramatta that sells 100% genuine Australian Stock. MobileCiti is generally "cheapest" to get local stock without specials if you are desperate for something (similar to MSY, but slightly better service).

    • Shopmonk = no TRS
      Mobileciti = TRS refund

  • +15

I bought an S8 Plus from their eBay store a few weeks ago and it was delivered over a weekend, so was super quick.

One thing to think about, is if you break the screen (Like I did last night) you are on your own and Samsung Australia wont touch it. Samsung charge $230 plus $66 installation for a new screen if it is Australian stock, replacing the screen elsewhere costs up to $600 and there is no guarantee that it will work properly afterwards, and the waterproof seal is also gone if fixed anywhere else other than Samsung.

I have never worried about it before as I had never broken a screen before last night, so it is something to think about when deciding to go with this deal or not.

    • A good reason to get a tempered glass protector + case when you buy grey.

      • +1

Tempered glass screen protector cracked at the same time and it was a full coverage one as well. Also had a case on it, but it didn't have a lip on it as that interferes with the screen protectors adhesive.

        • Ouch.

I dropped my Note the other day and thankfully only the tempered glass protector cracked.

        • +5

          @b-radicool:
Just get a good case with a lip >>>> screen protector.

I've been going with the spigen rugged armour for the past few phones. Dropped it multiple times from standing height with no ill effects.

          ~$15 on ebay.

        • @plasmapuff:
I had ordered some new cases, they just hadn't arrived yet! Ha what a bastard!

        • +3

This is precisely why I won't buy a S8, despite it ticking most other boxes for me. The curved screen prevents proper protection - tempered glass protectors are harder to apply and you can't get cases that provides a lip over the screen. It's only flat screen phones for me. Fingers crossed the V30 or Pixel 2 are flat.

        • @dontpanic:
Lots of spigen cases provide a sizeable lip.

I don't see a point of tempered glass screen protectors. Gorilla glass is harder than the screen protector. Only benefit is for micro scratch protection, which most people will expect to a degree after a couple of years when you sell it.

Haven't used them for years. Just get a good case.

        • +3

@plasmapuff: >Gorilla glass is harder than the screen protector.

So what? It still cracks and a screen protector sometimes stops that …

        • @plasmapuff: Screen protectors usually take the brunt on a direct drop onto the screen. They'll often absorb the drop by cracking, yet the screen itself will be fine. At $2 a pop on eBay, I usually have a few spare on hand to swap out.

      • +1

I've literally thrashed my Lumia 950xl with INCIPIO case and tempered glass protector.

First time I dropped a 26kg dumbbell on it in the gym and screen protector shattered. Original screen was fine

Second time I was in Rome airport running for the gate and I was on the phone holding it with my left hand, my watch was a little twisted so I gave my wrist a shake and literally threw the phone on the floor at hard impact. Second tempered glass protector shattered but original screen was fine.

Third time again I changed the glass protector and again dropped the dumbbell on it and made a circle crack on my screen. Third tempered glass protector shattered and original screen was fine 😀. Funny thing is, I'm having more software issues rather than hardware!

Now let's see how I crack my fourth glass protector haha.

        • +2

First time I dropped a 26kg dumbbell on it in the gym and screen protector shattered.

          Which gym has 26kg dumbbells?

        • @ms:
          Lime. Most decent gyms.

        • @Ayedeevee:
Ok. I go to a cheapo gym so the closest one they have is 25kg.

        • @ms:
some gyms have weights that go up by 2.5kg increments,
          others have 2kg increments

        • @ms: good question.I have never seen 26 kilo dumbbells. Its usually in the increments of 2.5kgs.

        • @ms: I know weird huh. They normally go up in increments of 2.5kg but because my old gym closed at 10pm on weekdays, I started looking around for 24/7 gyms. I now go to Fit n fast and dumbbells go up in increments of 2kg up to 40kg.

        • @gezza90:
I go to a 24/7 gym too, however, I haven't seen dumbbells go up in 2Kg increments. It maybe that they are not very common.

    • +1

So, how are you going to replace the screen?

      • +1

I probably wont bother and buy a new one. It is not too bad so I can sell it and someone will use it and not worry about it, I am just too picky and it will annoy me every time. I have no reception at my home so need either a Galaxy phone or iPhone to use Wifi Calling so I have very little choice of what phone I can use.

Here is what the crack looks like:-
        http://i.imgur.com/F5QpkNc.jpg
        http://i.imgur.com/igKyyLh.jpg

Funnily enough the cracks on the screen are quite hard to see when the screen is in use, the side spider webbing can be seen but is not too bad. I have a sceen protector over the top so its nice and smooth to use again.

Still annoys the crap out of me though!

        • Ok mate. Take better care of the next one. Hope you get a few $$$ for it.

        • @clandestino:

I technically did not break this one, it was on the S7 wireless fast charger that has a tiny lip that holds the phone, and my cat decided to give it a head rub which knocked it off straight into the side of the bed and that is how it got damaged.

The most annoying part is the fall was under 500mm and if it did not hit the side of the bed it would have landed on carpet. It was just it's time it seemed.

I have had loads of phones (26 just in 2016) and this is the first screen that has been damaged while in my possession and I am annoyed about it, but what can you do!

    • So if you didn't crack your phone screen, $600 PROFIT? :)

      • Very true, cannot argue with that. The seller is also very good to buy from, just wanted to give people some food for thought.

    • +1

Did you pay with 28d or coles cc? Merchant protection

      • Unfortunately not, use a Bankwest Credit Card which has no perks.

        • Change it to platinum with $0 fee. I just claimed my tab S3 which was water damaged within a week.

        • @san_narula:

I have the Platinum $0 Annual Fee, shows how much I know about the card. Thanks for the heads up, I will call them this morning and find out my options.

How did it work with your Tab S3 claim?

    • +1

more reason to get American Express Essential

      https://www.americanexpress.com/au/content/essential-credit-…

i moved all my mobile plan payment to this card just for the sake of it

      • $0 annual fee, what's the catch that I may have missed in the T&C?

    • I bought mine with AMEX Essentials. It gives $500 smartphone screen insurance. Not sure how to claim it though.

    • +6

Let's say you get this for $799, you break the screen, you get another one for $799 = $1600.

Alternatively, you get another one in Australia for $1000 + $300 for screen replacement = $1300.

You could probably just sell your broken one for more than $300, so you're better off going with this deal, so if you break your phone, not only is it still cheaper than buying AU, but you even get a new phone too!

It's about time that people stop buying AU just because of warranty (which is usually worthless anyway) and "supporting local business" (who are usually just not competitive). Manufacturers, suppliers and retailers all rip off Australian buyers with ridiculous markups and inefficient business practices which need to be stamped out.

Sure, if you're buying something that you'll use for 10 years like a fridge, then yeah, warranty matters, but with a phone, most of us replace phones on a yearly basis anyway - usually with a phone that is popular + been on the market for a while now, like the S8+, any general issues are likely to have been reported on, so unless you're unluckly, you'll be fine.

    • AU stock s8+
      Phone = $1140
      Screen repair = $296
      Total = $1436

      Grey Import s8+
      Phone = $799
      Screen repair = $600
      Total = $1399

If you are careless with your phones, better to get AU stock because you can claim on tax for work and TRS, cashback etc…

If you you are careful and not in a high tax bracket, better to go for Grey import.
EDIT: just realised another person commented the same thing.

      • Doesn't have to be AU stock to claim on tax for work.

    • If that's the case then the phone is useless. It is better to pay extra for local stock of course Samsung overprice their products in Australia than any other country in the world.

2017 so fragile. so expensive …

    2007 Nokia $200

    • 2007 Nokia N95 US$730, still more expensive than this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_N95

    • I dropped my s8+. No screen protector, no case, no damage. Awesome anecdote that proves it can survive a drop.

      • My s8 broke easily. It's made from glass of all things.

  • +4

It was $757.6 1.5week ago when eBay had the 20% off.

  • Dropped my S7 edge other day. Now looking for a new phone. I wonder if S8 plus is worth 100 AUD more than S8. Or may be i should wait for V30.

    • Worth the wait before deciding.

      • yea I will stick with my 5 year old galaxy S2 for the time being.

My experience with Shopmonk shipping has unfortunately not been a positive one. I bought a xiaomi mi5 phone off them last week Tuesday and to date the order status is "processing". They have also not replied to at the 2 messages I sent them.

    • Did you use paypal? Send them another email and if they dont respond, either open a dispute or charge back on your credit card

I bought 2 units s8+ dual sim. One from QD-ebay 2 months ago for $850 and another one from shopmonk-ebay 10 days ago for $757.6.
From my experience, From QD-ebay: delivered in 3 days, on the back phone has writing DUO (dual sim), the box in chinese language (came from taiwan), samsung original seal has been cut, reseal it with shop seal & wrap it with plastic shrink.
From shopmonk-ebay: delivered in 7 days, has no writing DUO (dual sim work ok), the box in english (came from singapore), samsung original seal has been cut & reseal it with shop seal.

    • +1

why would they open the seal?

      • To modify the contracted or locked phone?

      • -1

They open the seal because the phones from South Asia have a locking mechanism. If you put in any international sim for the first time aside from a South Asia countries sim card, the phone will lock and thats it. You need to insert a South Asia sim card, call for 5 minutes and your phone will be unlocked for travel. Thats why prices are low there. Also, if they buy the phones from another reseller, by opening the seals they can make sure no shady stuff is happening and they arent getting scammed. So its a win win for them.

    • -1

OK but that is now not a new phone. The seal is there for a reason

  • grey gray market?

This is a dodgey import. I'm surprised with the number of upvotes.
No warranty and inferior processor compared to local model.

    • what do you mean inferior processor?

      • Hes assuming international model which means exynos and mali gpu not snapdragon cpu and adreno gpu. Small performance hit on the exynos model.

        • +4

Local (as in Australian) and international are the same though. Only US model is different with the Snapdragon CPU.

        • Good point.

        • The Exynos scores higher in core processing, but slightly lower on the GPU side. Not enough to warrant a difference considering the amount of background apps people run vary anyway.

    • +2

      This is a dodgey import.

      Baseless claim.

I'm surprised with the number of upvotes.

Yet you'd think that would clue you in that it's a huge saving.

      No warranty

So what? Paying additional money for a warranty on low cost items is foolish. You replace the item if and when it's required and save hundreds of dollars - unless you break stuff a lot.

and inferior processor compared to local model.

It's still one of the fastest devices in existence …

  • +1

    "Processor Type: Octa-core (4x2.3 GHz & 4x1.7 GHz) - EMEA Octa-core (4x2.35 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo) - US model"

US model = SD processor no? but this is also dual sim? I am pretty sure USA does not have a dual sim model.

    • Its the international model. They just put the specs of both models up.

  • I'm holding off for a redmi note sale on shopmonk - going to pull the trigger then!

  • +1

Does anybody know if this is this a dual SIM version or not - website not really clear?

    • Yea, can't find any info myself too !!

    • It says in the specs on the website that its dual sim. I ordered one and it is indeed dual sim

  • why does the page load at AU$899 and jumps to AU$999 after?

    • Click on the out of stock colours and you'll see why. It loads as one of them and then changes to the only in stock colour.

  • Thanks to OP. Bought one when you put the second sale. I regretted not buying in the first sale. This is 100$ more than the One Plus 5 8 GB model which I also purchased for the gf. Can try both phones out for the price of Google Pixel 2 or iPhone 8 plus. Wallet too weak for 1000$+ phones now.

  • My order is still processing. Can you guys post an update on when you ordered the item and received it. Thanks

  • +1

Order Sept 1st, also still processing

    • I got email around 8:30 PM today on Tuesday that order is dispatched.

      Dear Customer,

      Greetings from Shopmonk!

We are glad to inform you that your product is being shipped from our warehouse today via our logistics partner DHL / Australia Post. The invoice for this shipment is enclosed as an attachment.

It should arrive at your doorstep within 3 to 5 business days.

Hopefully I get it by this week. I'll update you guys how it turns out. :)

      • When did you place your order mate? Date/time?

        • Saturday morning, when the OP said Available again

        • +1

          @RandomDeviation:

Hmm your order was after mine. And mine has still not shipped. Shenanigans

        • @RandomDeviation:

          Grey or gold version?

        • @swordvish: Orchid Grey. To be honest I'm just glad they did ship and are using DHL. First time ordering from them. Also got the One Plus 5 from the manufacturer soft launch in Australia last week. Ill keep the one I like and give the other to the gf.

        • @swordvish: Got it today around 10 AM. Everything was fine and they also included a unbranded travel charger. I might not use that cause it wont support fast charging and use the original in the box. All in all, a good experience. Hope you get yours soon

  • I am confused why this deal is highlighted and is still getting new up votes?

It is not cheaper than similar deals under currently active 15% off Ebay Mobile phones, or the 18% off site wide discount tomorrow night (if no price jacking).

    • +1

True it's not cheaper but the cheaper deals seem to be a bit more risky in terms of what you get by saving $50-100. The absolute cheapest price is not always the best price.

      • I see.

I thought QD_au has a good reputation as a grey importer, it costs around $744 with CR buying from http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/162492964661

Maybe Shopmonk has really built its reputation here.

        • Well yeah they have a pretty good rep too. Will be a bit cheaper again with the 18% tomorrow.

    • Too late.. they've jacked it already

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-Galaxy-S8-PLUS-Orchid-Gra…

$1249 for the S8+ from Shopmonk. lol

      • The ebay deal I mentioned is from Quality deals, did you open the link I pasted above?
