Hi All,

I've posted this before.. Last time it was around the same time as the incredibly priced Acer G9… Perhaps it will be of benefit to more people this time.

Compared to the current Metabox deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/326053), this Dell has a smaller SSD, but more RAM, better GPU (4gb vs 2gb) and Windows installed. For me that more than makes up for the price difference.

Happy Gaming!

Unfortunately i've had nothing but BSOD, Kernel Power Failures and Driver related Problems with this laptop. Dell has not been very supportive.

    • +1

      Sounds like Dell.

    • Perhaps bios issues with the graphics? I had the same on my clevo. Eventually it became less frequent. I suspect overheating has something to do with it

      • Ive Updated EVERYTHING. Including the BIOS several times…

        • Sorry to hear. Again, I had similar problems. Perhaps it was eventually fixed by nvidia updates or windows updates

        • @tomkun01: doubt it dell needs to pull there shit together. Its their hardware, drivers are their responsibility to be optimised with windows. Cant even access wifi on the device atm. My s7 and compact tablet can… trying to reinstall wifi drivers only to have installation blocked.

Tldr: laptop is a pain in the ass can find people reporting this problem on dell forums.

When it works its gr8 and id recommend it for this price, but calling dell and talking to a scripted tech support im honestly getting nowhere. Cant believe that i may have to take this to tribunal to get my money back.

Also bought this with 4 yrs hardware warranty…

    • So dont buy then, sad, as Im waiting to the pull the trigger on something like it. Dud item is one thing these things happen, but if Dell is being difficult, thats where back up and service counts and its very telling if they are difficult. I just had a less than stellar chat with their chat team re: warranty and why I need to buy warranty in Australia when I have a Consumer Guarantee, as in what did I get that I wouldnt get without it.

He was vague at best. Gave me a nu8mber to call on Monday though.

      • Lol as for the consumer guarantee honestly i bet they are clueless. Either that or you will have a very difficult time with them. I already am and my bloody laptop is 2 months old with warranty. I have logs of events occuring on my computer of power failures and kernal crashes and yet each time im going through the same process, of "troubleshooting" they wont even offer me a replacement. Lol.

Guess i should note that they really have no interest in going through with warranty and keep dodging it

        • Is the warranty local? If it is, change your tactic in dealing with them. I know they ship from Malaysia or similar, but I dont think Dell would like their product regarded as a grey import, ie: local Consumer Guarantee doesnt apply etc.

In all honesty, I think they like you chatting witht he offshore guys, but would in the end, have local service centres and local guarantees apply.

But nothing applies if they can bluff you into not taking any local action.

        • Also note you paid for the extra service? Mate Id trouble shoot online with them as they mention for maybe 30 mins. After that Id demand the tech rep come to your house as per the paid EXTRA warranty.

    • I had a heap of dramas with my Dell xps, in the end it took quoting Australian consumer law subsection of right to refund for a major fault and demanding a refund to get a solution.

This was after 5 tech visits still not resulting in a fully functional laptop.

Seems a lucky dip with Dell as to whether you get a lemon or get a perfect laptop that never gives a fault. Maybe their QC needs improvement.

      • Do you reckon it's hardware fault or dodgy non-QAed drivers?

        • At this Point im Thinking its A Mixture of Both, My Laptop For some reason Powers off when i pull the AC Power Out, However this happens randomly, The battery is apparently in excellent condition… so i don't see how that could be a problem. Faulty Power Cable?

When Looking at who crashed i can't get an answer for all my Crashes

        • @Tehcookiemonsta: Broken track on PCB? Something shorting or going to ground when it shouldn't? Do these have metal cases or plastic?

        • @bdl: Plastic, I was actually thinking of it shorting…
