  • is it worth the upgrade from a Dali concept 8 to say the KEF Q500?

    • I'd say go for at least the Q700. I've had the Concept 10 for 10 years and realised it's due for a replacement. Q900 was my pick but in the end I went for the Tannoy XT8F.

      • thanks but it's a bit over my budget which was $0 to begin with….might just stick with my concept 8 then…lol

  • KEF were always one of the great speaker makers but these reviews suggest something has changed. Add the fact that technology in this area really hasn't changed much (allowing cheaper brands to catch up) and it makes these look over priced still.

Those reviews aren't meaningful. Of the four reviews at 3 star or below, two are complaining about broken on delivery due to poor shipping and handling. One is complaining he didn't get a warranty because he bought it from a shonky dealer (non-authorised). One is complaining he's had it replaced two times (so three different sets) and it still buzzes - classic noob mistake, he has an underpowered amp.

The single 4 star review is complaining about the colour.

My only conclusion is that Amazon reviews are garbage.

      • That doesn't cover the fact the speaker technology has hardly changed in 10 years (since a time when I spend $000s on hifi tech). Back then most hifi tech was snake oil (although speakers less so) so now it's even worse.

  • Damn i literally just bought a soundbar setup.

    Thanks for posting!

Grabbed a set of white Q800 dipoles. It's taking me all of my willpower not to match them with a white set of Q900s, a centre and a sub.

  • Would the q900s pair ok with the Yamaha RX-V383?

    • +1

I don't recommend it. The speakers are too big for the amp. Yamaha RX-V383 has 70W/channel at 6 ohms. It will work - the RX-V383 supports 8 ohm speakers like the KEF Q900 - but won't do the speakers justice.

Would work better with a bigger amp like the Yamaha Aventage series.
