I asked about sim-only plans and the $40 12 month plan can be discounted to $30
It ends up being a pretty good deal. Last time it was on I switched my ending 24 month contract to a 12 month $40/month 15 gb plan, then added my partner to the plan and got a 24 month iphone 7 256 gb contract with an additional 30 gb for $75 per month.
If you shop around you can get some good deals with Optus. Not sure what is available at present. At that stage the $135 plan for 30 gb per month was on sale at $100, then got 25% off this second plan.
Can someone else buy this for us 'as a gift' to get the 25% off? :D
I think this would mean you'd be on the same data pool so not very practical with a stranger.

@pennypincher98: 25% off is only for mobile phone plans, you would need to get two mobile phone numbers, or have one number and add another service to it. No discount with tablets. So if you have a tablet plan, adding a mobile phone plan will NOT get you the 25% off. You need to have a mobile phone plan, and add another family member to get 25% off for them. This deal was made at targeting parents who are on Optus plans and their kids are on prepaid, by moving their kids to plans the kids number will get 25% off.

This is only for a new second service. Online agent wouldn't let me recontract my kid's number with 25% discount.

The sims for Telstra online are free including delivery :)
just chat with the sales team, they will transfer you to optus prepaid if you are on sim only or plan and bring you back as new customer.
Did it last month, i was on sim only plan but could not simply recontract as a new customer so they put me on prepaid and back on postpaid from their end.
Told them i wont be porting out to another provider.

Say a $50 plan per month with 25% off goes down to $37.50 > $29.17 Equivalent per month.
I know you can't use it to pay off your phone (or can you as it's an eftpos card?) but still helpful to nevertheless know the relative savings.

Yup. At one point the $130 plan was $100, and you can do 25% off that which brings it down to $75 and you get a $200 eftpos card. I don't remember when the $130 plan for $100 promotion finished though. I'm 99% sure that the eftpos card was until September 3Rd though.

Just spent 10 minutes talking to my local Optus store. Apparently this discount is stackable and only apply to the line rental of the contract. You can add up to 3 additional services.
Deals with only one rental charge just become much sweeter. Such as the $70 for 140g data sim or the $35 iPad deal. You can simply port in your first line at $25 then additional service are 25% off. Say if you add both offer mentioned, it's $103.75 for 153g of data and a new iPad 32g. SWEET!!!!

Sorry to bare the bad news, the offer is only for mobile phone plans! Speak to the manager of the store, some of the sales staff may not be aware of the conditions and gave you the wrong information. It does not apply for tablets and data sims.
@landroverz7: Some sales staff should check their info before promising customers things - I had a similar issue a few months ago that was a pain to sort out, due to that mistake.

There is no more $20 broadband discount or 10% off broadband discount or $10 off your mobile phone discount, when you combine broadband and phone. These were legacy discounts if you are still receiving them good on you, keep it and don't tell Optus ;) What the online rep can do is just apply the 10% off student discount on your mobile, even if you are not a student. That is what the online rep probably offered you, without telling you its a student discount, making it look like they are giving you a deal and get a broadband and mobile sale out of you.

They're offering a dollar amount ($5) off the monthly fee ($30 down to $25), not a percentage as specified in the terms and conditions is an exclusion

Under SIM only - very small text above the $30
Online they can only do the $5 off deal, brining the plan down to $25 a month. This CANNOT be combined with 25% off. In store what they can do is offer 25% off the $30 plan bringing it down to $22.50. So if you were after the $30 plan, the cheapest you can get it for is $22.50 and must be done in store.

The only reason I would get optus is for the EPL. While this is a good deal(if you tolerate shitty optus) it's still a massive rip off for the EPL season.
I am with Optus already but I only get 1 or 2 bars at home(Oakpark, vic) and right now I am in CBD and getting 3 signal bars only. I got this Lg G6 and Z3 and both showing this issue. I often get this msg on lg g6 that battery is draining fast because of poor network reception.
I am with Optus as well, live EPL is pot luck, more bad than good. Modem drops out intermittently and after an hour on the phone some friendly person in India recommends to re-boot the modem again.

yeah, had optus chick offer me the $130 plan down to $100 plus a ten dollar handset repayment (so at this point $110) followed by 25% off the plan, then another 10% off for a student discount. Basically taking it down to $71.50 a month for the Note 8 with 30GB of data. Only catch was I had to change my number which I didnt wan't to do so had to decline.
Interesting on how you get the deal. I had a chat on the phone and the guy says I can only use one deal at a time. Also isn't it $110-25%-10% is $74.25 ? And the 25% only apply to the plan not the handset repayment ?
25% discount only apply for the plan not handset. $100(promo of $130)x0.75(25%)=$75 + $10(handset) = $85 per month. Not sure we can apply another 10% student discount on this or not.
