ACER i5 2.26ghz 15.6" 2GB 500GB - $698 after $99 Cashback ($797) - Free Shipping

AS5741-432G50Mn notebook - $699 after $99 Cashback. The cashback needs to be lodged by 31st of this month, so I'd recommend getting it at least a few days before then.
My only complaint here is that it only has 2gb of ram - but this is cheap to upgrade if you need 4gb+ (~$50 from msy)

  • Core i5 for sub $700, that's freakin hot

  • +4

i am waiting for "neg because it is acer"

  • What is the video card like?? Modern game capable?

    • There's none. The graphics is integrated (on the Core i5) so unfortunately no modern 3d games of any sort.

Its powerful enough for HD video though.

  • Don't think Acer have esata or HDMI. Does this one have these or bluetooth (not listed on the site)

  • yes on the HDMI, no on the eSata (no biggy really imho)

  • I'd rather get the $800 Asus from Officeworks posted a while back:

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Com…

Exact same specs except smaller hdd (320gb vs 500gb). However it is made by Asus, currently the leading manufacturer in terms of reliabilty (on average): http://netbookboards.com/2009/11/17/3-year-netbook-failure-r…

Looking at the graph, Acer and HP (not surprisingly) rate among the worst for malfunction rates within 3 years.

Also, I think the Asus looks really nice. In fact, I'm typing this up on the Asus right now. I particularly like the island keys (can't tell from pics if the Acer has them). Got hold of a discount card from a friend who works at kmart so saved myself 40 buckeroos too! =D
