And the comments on how crap the quality of internet begin.

Bloody trash just look how slow there speed is.

      • Is it on FTTP?

        • Yes

        • @Axelstrife:
Is it at the similar speed during peak times?

        • +1

          @Joe888: Yes!
between my PC downloading updates for games etc my PS4 downloading updates
me downloading TV/Movies streaming music and gaming and one or both of the OTHER (not mine in my room) streaming netflix ive never had any problems or slowdowns.

        • @Axelstrife:

gamer plan or standard? and where abouts are you located.

        • +3

          @eriklee:

hey all, i was on this plan also. Speeds are fine until a few in the neighborhood jump on. Then it sits around 10mbps most the day. Moved away back to another provider and back sitting pretty around 97mbps even during peak. They waived the contract without any issues due to so many people experiencing this and them leasing lines not having their own

        • +1

          @dillyz:

thats good to know - so they didnt hit you with an exit fee?

        • +1

@eriklee:There is no difference between gamer and standard OTHER than a static ip
Im on gamer though as static ip is need for gaming.

          Penrith nsw.

        • @dillyz:

So what provider did you go back to?

        • @Axelstrife:

Why is static IP needed for gaming?

        • @combatant: Myrepublic uses something called CGNAT which affects people connecting to you in Peer to peer games so you will never be able to host in P2P games.
No open nat type as well which i know will affect at least on ps4 chat party's i constantly had nat errors popup cause others don't have open nat type.

Sorry idk too much about exactly why it does any of this just that it does.

        • @Axelstrife: Thanks for the explanation. Wasn't sure why it was important but since I don't host P2P games probably not likely to affect me. Currently on Optus cable wich has been good but congestion has been terrible lately during peak times and NBN getting switched on in a couple of months so was just curious.

        • @eriklee: Nah though i complained and called them constantly asking for it to be cancelled without an exit fee. this was early on

      • I know, I get almost the same on my MR FTTN service. It is horrendous, although admittedly I get significantly higher ping times, they're always about 30ms…could be something to do with being coutry.

        • Fttp is fibre to the house ill always have much much better ping than everything else.

4 ping ping is high when i was with tpg i used to get 1 ping on speed tests.

My ping is lower than games offer.
For example rocket league doesnt go lower than 4 ive seen and black ops 3 doesnt go below 16 ping.

2AM in the morning can you give us one at peak hour or are you a night shift worker

      • Just now via WiFi and PIA VPN.

        http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/i/2215272290

      • NBN basically deals with the connection all the way to MyRepublics door step when you're in Sydney, there's not much they can stuff up. The congestion shows when it's a rural PoI and MyRepublic is forced to organize backhaul to major cities.

    • +1

I'm with myrepublic and its been fine. Generally 60+ down and 30+ up. Can't argue with that for the price.

      • +2

I am not FTTN 80 up 40 down.

But lately found that a bit slow during peak like torrent but the speed will back to normal around after 11pm.

  • +1

I'm with MR. Full speeds 24/7.

  • +1

Some people have a good experience some crap. Generally Peak times is where people suffer but for the most part I have seen MR manage to address eventually. Support is slow to get through to generally. Connection experiences vary some good some slow.
Definitely you get what you pay for support and connection wise but for those connected 95% of the time seems generally value for money
    FTTP here.

    • Yeah best way to get through to support I've found is to use their website live chat. Connect and just do something else while you wait it out in the queue. That said - if you don't have internet access in the first place and you can't use it elsewhere, that's not gonna work.

      • In my experience if you are trying to address congestion issues they refuse to do this through chat. They have told me more than once you cant log a ticket through chat to be escalated so you have to run the telephone gauntlet if you need to escalate something to second level or to their supplier (Optus/NBN)

  • +1

Just left MR due to internet issues they wouldn't resolve
Peak times was rubbish to the point I couldn't use it but off peak was fine
Flipped across to AussieBroadband and all my issues went away

    • price difference though?

      • You can always get Telecube $69 for 1TB Peak/5TB off peak. This would more than sufficient for Joe Citizen.
Note: Telecube have this plan on special for a limited time (end of Aug) and comes with a setup fee of $99.

      • $10 more a month for 1TB and the ability to use the internet in peak times
I had to ditch them because not only could I not game or view certain websites, I couldn't access my work network from 6.00PM to 11.30PM

  • Heard that you gotta have certain technical skills if u go with MR, cos their support is crap…is that true?

    • As long as they setup their end you literally plug in any NBN Capable router and that's it Don't even need to enter anything into the router for it to work.

That is for FTTP No idea about anything else.

    • Correct
Be prepared to wait up to an hour on hold each phone call, only to be told to call back tomorrow
Email response is 4 weeks behind
You need extreme patience to deal with MR's tech support

  • +1

    I'm with MyR on FTTN

Initially was getting speeds of 95/40

Now averaging about 30/30 during peak times, with some instances of 3/30, but that hasn't happened in a while. I'm assuming something was happening when it went that bad

  • Will the Gamers Pro price remain @ $69.99 per month after 12 months?

    • That's been the standard price since launch, and given how they operate, that seems set to continue. There was a $10/month discount deal from last year's PAX, but that's probably not going to happen again as it was also at the time of the launch of the service.

MR uses what's called Quality of Service protocols to intelligently throttle your bandwidth requirements on the wholesale end to keep their costs down. If you tried to download at full rate 24/7, you'll eventually find yourself throttled, but if you're keeping yourself under 2 or 3 terabytes a month, I doubt you'll run into many issues.

The difference between the gamer and standard plans is simply better traffic routing to improve ping.

      • +2

I thought the difference was Gamer Pro provides a Static IP allowing you to host games. This isn't possible on the standard plan as your dynamic IP is put behind CGNAT (carrier grade NAT)

        • My apologies, I overlooked that as it doesn't tend to have an impact for most people, but you're correct in that there is a static IP as well as tighter routing.

  • Is this a new plan? There was already a Gamer plan for this price. If it's a new plan, what's different about this one?

    • looks to be the same

  • I have FTTP and was getting 1-4 Mbps on MyRepublic, switched to Aussie Broadband and now get ~95Mbps.

    • when you switched were you still in contract and if so how did you get out of the contract without penalty?

      • Yes I had 9 months left of my contract left but they advised that given they couldn't deliver the speeds I signed up for they would release me from the contract without any charge.

  • +1

I started my service with MR in MAY this year and experience terrible peak hour congestion. I have reported this to them twice people are correct you need special IT skills. I finally give up and reported them to TIO half an hour ago and called them and notified them that I made a complaint. I just want to go back to skymesh. Wrong decision you get what you pay for. I learnt my lesson.

    • Let us know what the resolution is through TOI once you hear back. Are you in a contract with MR?

  • +1

Im with MR on their gamer package. Speed has alway been good, slows a little during peak but still really fast, I was happy. Unfortunately I am constantly getting packet loss meaning it is unusable for online gaming. I called customer service a few weeks ago, 55mins before I spoke to someone who didn't have a clue what I was talking about or how too help. He sent the issue to another dept who were suppose to contact me in a couple of days. Didn't happen. Called back a week later (60min wait), still not fixed, will call back a couple of weeks later. Going to give them one more go and then off to someone else. My advice would be not to sign a contract because if it doesn't work, support is non existence.

    • Tier 1 support is never going to be great at any ISP. Whirlpool or some other form of direct contact with the higher level techs is probably your best bet to improve a routing issue faster.

This has long been the case for any ISP, though obviously their support turnarounds need a lot of work.
