Agreed, these are basic quartz fashion watches, made in China. For this kind of money or less you can buy something from a reputable watch making company like Seiko (Orient), Citizen, Casio & Timex.

I like this review on Watchuseek -
Think you know Daniel Wellington, no you don't.

buy a naviforce 9044, put it on your own strap and ignore this dw mvmt internet nonsense

the 9044 is pretty much the official watch of Ozbargain

sure tapping the sides sounds like you're tapping onto the sides of a can of baked beans but thats a part of the charm

        • That your photo?

          Nice seamaster

        • +1

yes its mine, quite proud of the $12 watch with the leather strap that's more expensive than the watch

        • +1

@tonyjzx: Looks good, I listed some other China cheapos here.

These threads on Watchuseek are great too -
          $20 or Less
          Best of Aliexpress

        • These look great but my wrist is too small :(

I'm pretty much locked out of the affordable Chinese watch market as I require dials < 38mm. I am quite happy with my current setup though: Casio W800H (or the W59) as a beater watch and the Seiko SNK809 as my special watch.

        • @fryandlaurie: The Skmei 9120 in my link above (China cheapos) is 38mm.

You can get them cheaper at Myer eBay ATM with "PICKUP".

Selling cheap chinese watches with a low-price Citizen movements with a Nato strap named after someone he met once for [almost] decades.

  • +7

    aliexpress have them for $8

    • +6

Not sure why you were negged… And $8 is about all these watches are worth.

      • +2

it was all the hipster guys that made the mistake buying them for their girlfriends

      Have a plus-vote.

    • +1

that is also a fake. There are many different types of fakes available.

I personally bought a fake for about $7 from a seller who sold nearly identical versions of the watch. Still fools everyone

  • +10

DW watches are simply not worth it. Non-watch enthusiasts won't care about what you wear, and watch enthusiasts will scoff at it.

    • +11

i must admit that its an impressive feat of marketing that they are able to convince the Myers and David Jones of the world that these are worth selling at $300!

      • +6

I'm with you there. Brilliant marketing and hype. All this money from a $5-10 (?) quartz movement and a pretty cheap manufacturing process in China. I wouldn't be surprised if the replicas and/or homages that are sold on DX and Aliexpress come from the same factory as the originals.

you can see these coupons in retailmenot.

Also, almost all of the DW watches are much cheaper on ebay.

Catch @ ebay for e.g Classic Cornwall men's black and gold watch, $149 and take a 20% off using coupon PITCH

Women's watch @ catch Leather Classy Sheffield Watch is $130 less 20 percent off

You will be paying the inflated RRP price and only getting a measly 15% discount if you buy directly from the official store.

    Nothing to see.

    Move along.

Let me know when Panerai or AP are on sale.

  • +3

The prices are unjustifiable. Quite a few brands offer similar watches for one-tenth. It is reported the dials are actually paper https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4217827/redir

  • +1

Great way to sell nameless, cheap watches mass-imported from China
Pay a model $5,000-$10,000 to take a photo with one of these brand less watches.

I used to think Country Road, Esprit and Jag watches were bad.

+1 for the deal as nothing against the poster

I see a lot of young girls wearing these and feel sorry for them that they spent a lot of coin on a cheap, crappy, generic watch. Especially since for the money they could get a pretty damn good watch. I don't have the heart to tell them of course. That would just be embarrassing, and if they bought it for the fashion they probably don't care anyway.

    • Does your wife know that you're looking at a lot of young girls?

      • +2

Probably not, or my sugar mama might cut off my pocket money.

  • Daniel who?

    • Zhang! No wait…

Full respect to OP, who meant well and may not have realised Daniel Wellington are the epitome of poor value horologically.

In case any Member seriously considers acquiring one, below are Swiss Made alternatives two leagues higher in quality, with less minimalist dials.

Yep love the respectful nature of the comments in this thread.

Everyone is destroying Daniel Wellington but still being respectful to the well-intentioned OP. :)

Thank you for this list PJC, I was thinking about getting the Mrs a DW for her birthday but might consider one of these options, appreciate the effort you put into these comments.

This sounds like a room full of old men lamenting the fact young ladies would rather buy something overpriced and hyped up on social media, than what they feel meets current engineering standards for the money. It's a fashion accessory not a nuclear submarine.

Do you think ladies want to get together for a coffee and talk about where their movements came from or the manufacturing standards it was produced under?

Get a grip on reality gentlemen. I'm afraid they aren't the fools in this conversation.

    Air Jordans's anyone?

    • +4

Totally agree, how dare old people comment on something that they have an interest in, and knowledge to try and help others get the most for their money on a bargain website.

    • +3

Who's the more foolish; the fool who buys a DW, or the fool who follows?

    • +2

I would have replied earlier but Nurse forgot my bedpan. It is my experience ladies appreciate thoughtful gifts and value for money and engage in meaningful conversations.

      • +1

When I'm out and about shopping for watches, I wear an adult nappy, because I'm old.

Good to see the elderly gentlemans club took a break from Canasta to neg me :)

For what it's worth I totally agree with you, you just shouldn't be surprised that the DW target market has different priorities to yourselves.
