  • can get a 960evo for lower price..500gb.

    • This is a SAS HDD …

      • Why use sas? I have a dell workstation with a sas card and 2 300g hdd attached. But they are slower than my ssd. So why use it?

      • This post was just for the 400GB PCIe SSD originally.

    A Samsung 960 EVO 500GB 1800/3200 MB/s R/W 330k IOPS is only $319 retail!

Why is this SSD so expensive?

    • Because PCIE interface.
Intel equivalent isn't far off this price.

      • PCIe 3.0 x4 adapter, about $10 on eBay.

        • Yes but then there is a larger Heat differential to deal with too for sustained read/write.

The Neutron will sit quite comfortably delivering high performance at much lower temperatures.

It depends on your use-case for an SSD like this.

        • @e4ewe: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/39689/ek-m-2-nvme-heatsink-black.. also you wont notice any performance difference between a 32gb/s m.2 slot and a pcie 3.0 x4 slot.

    • Samsung Evo 960 is 3200/1800 not 1800/3200 lol.

    • Best price I can do on a 960 Evo M2 is $339 delivered, which is probably easily beaten elsewhere.

      Samsung V-NAND M.2 (2280) NVMe 500GB 960 EVO R/W(Max) 3,200MB/s/1500MB/s 330K/300K IOPS 3 Years Warranty

  • https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-960-PRO-Internal-MZ-V6P512BW/… approx $366 posted. better specs and about 100 bucks less.

Agreed, but I am an Australian retailer. Stock is in Australia and usually delivered within 1-3 business days.

You won't find a 400GB NX500 for cheaper - if you do let me know!

      • theres a reason no one buys that ssd from corsair. They are just not worth considering over the 960 series from Samsung. Same reason why no one buys the intel version anymore.

  • This is a PCI-E card, different to the Evo 960 M2

PCI-e is usually natively faster than the M2 due to the bus differences (full duplex, dual lane etc.)

You aren't comparing like for like SSD

    • What good is the interface when the SSD itself cannot deliver the goods? Compare the specs, the Neutron is about 10% slower.

      • Max Sequential Read (ATTO): Up to 3000MB/s
Max Sequential Write (ATTO): Up to 2400MB/s

  • Finally I can find a use for my idle PCI-E slot

don't buy this lol… you can put your Samsung nvme in a pcie adapter.
