  • The 8TB is tempting…

    Bought,thanks

  • Worthy to note, I'm pretty sure these aren't compatible with ps4s because they're a hub style extrenal hdd

  • I want to use this as a back up only;
So plug in to PC > Put everything I want on it and then store it, is there a way so that next time i plug this in, it will auto update new files/folders or delete ones removed from my pc?

So basically completely mirror without it being plugged in 24/7

    • good question

    • How will you copy at first stage?
You might have to use a software to sync files from computer to External HDD.

You can also use Robocopy in a batch file to copy data and run this file manually or schedule the data copy from PC to HDD.

    What does "hub" style mean?
Limitations compared to a normal desktop HDD?

Could this be connected directly to a router which has a USB 3.0 for attaching HDDs, then functioning as NAS?
i.e this is not connecting to a computer.

The 8TB offering looks awesomely priced too.
Was looking for just this kind of massive storage for a NAS set-up as described above.

    Any advice?

    • Would also like to know this.

    • Oh… I get it.
Two USB ports out front; thus the USB "hub" moniker.

Apart from that, it seems to be the ubiquitous desktop HDD.

And, from the Q&A on that Amazon page, it seems it can be used directly connected to a so-equipped router, thus allowing it's provisioning as a massive NAS.

Cool. Getting the 8TB one soon.

Thanks jase2801 for posting this deal; couldn't have been better timed for me.

  • Very tempting!!! but I am concerned about the seagate's hard disk's stability. Anyone had bad experience?

    • Yes. On a 3tb backup drive. So only WD for me now

    • Yes, I had 2 of these die on me. One after ~75 hours use (some weird partition issue- Out of nowehere the 8TB drive turned in to a 2TB zombie!), the other was it's replacement which failed ~3 months later with a clicking noise.

Luckily I purchased them locally so Seagate directly handed the RMA out of Sydney, and their RMA process was straight forward and prompt.

As soon as I got the brand new replacement drive back, I sold it off whilst it was still shrinkwrapped.

      Good warranty support, crap realiability.

      • As someone who just recently bought two 8tb's this scares me.. WD seems to be more reliable than Seagate recently.
