  OK price. Apple Store has the iPad 128GB WiFi only for $599, cellular $799.
  Can anyone clarify the differences between the New iPad and iPad air 2 please?

    Pretty sure it's just a smidgen faster and thicker. It does Live photos (Don't think the Air 2 does)

        Scroll past the cpu scores and there seems to be a lot going for the iPad 2017 over the iPad Air 2:
        * fairly significant improvement to graphics rendering
        * 30% faster JavaScript
        * 616 minutes battery compared to 460 minutes for iPad Air 2

        While much of its technology feels out of date, however, one key spec, the processor, does not, and the A9 chip helped the iPad 2017 to produce consistently decent results in our benchmarking tests - not Pro-fast, but considerably faster than the Air 2.     New iPad has a faster processor (A9 vs A8X) but lacks the laminated display of the Air 2.

      I have an air 2 and I'm not a fan of the display. I hope the new iPad is better.

        It is not, laminated display is excellent, it is an expensive technology that's why the new iPad is cheaper without this laminated display.

        @here2rock: I see. On my air 2 I hate the way the anti-glare coating shows every smudge and smudges are near impossible to clean off.

    Don't forget the Air 2 is a 2 year old device. If iOS updates are important, go with the new iPad.

  The only issue with this is how long Apple will continue to support it. Other than that looks like a good deal.

  IIRC the iPad Air 2 is from 2014.

  I went with one of them for my Grandmother who justs wants a simple browsing device.

  Anyone have any real user feedback on how these Air2's perform. I've historically used an iPad Air1 and recently moved to the Pro 10.5 which performs like a racing car compared to the Air1 which now feels like a snail and in my view is almost un-usable, I am thinking about replacing another iPad in our family but would be frustrated if I purchased the air2 and found it to be similar in performance to the Air1.

    I have an iPad Air 2 128GB from last one year and am very satisfy with it's speed and performance.Battery backup is also pretty good. No complaints.

    But I won't upgrade the software after to iOS 11. I'm also using developer Version of iOS11 and it runs great on it too. But iOS 12 next year probably slow it down.

    Also compare to iPad Air1, it has 2GB of RAM.

    I can't comment on iPad air vs iPad air 2 since i only have the 2. But I will say I kinda regret not going for the pro. The Air 2's speaker seems to be worse than my ipad mini 1's speaker. When you turn up the volume, the whole damn thing shakes. I think they've kinda went overboard trying to make this as thin as possible.

    Performance wise, I can't see what more you could want out of the processor (i.e. i think it's pretty damn good).

  Be aware you can get a better price for latest (5th) generation wifi + cellular on ebay/gumtree. (I just sold one myself: 9.7", 128GB $540.) I've seen about 8 on gumtree about that price in a two-week period (brand new and unopened I mean).
