  • are all the cameras wired?

    • +1

      Yes. 20m cables.
I wasn't looking for a wireless solution as you still need to get power to the wireless cameras.

      • Of course, I only ask because the Officeworks ad states:

        Connectivity
        Device Connectivity Technology Wireless

Thank you for such a detailed post

        • +1

          No worries.
The Device Connectivity Technology Wireless is where you can access the system remotely with a wireless device (phone/tablet/pc).

  • Says 6 x 720p dome cameras, but it's 2 x dome And 4 x bullet style.

Whats best, dome or bullet Style. The dome def look better I think?

    • +1

you generally use tamper proof dome cameras for ceiling or eaves mounting, or in any areas where they could be tampered with by a crim. Bullet on the other hand is easier to direct the camera, and work well mounted on walls/vertical surfaces. Of course, depending on the ability of the dome camera to tilt and spin, you can still mount a dome on a wall just fine - and you would do it that way if you wanted it on a wall in an accessible area. With these ones, since the domes arent proper tamper proof ones, I have no idea what the point of difference is - probably zilch.

  • Would all these cameras require to be individually powered?

    • Yes, as said below the cables are both power and BNC combined. You'll have all the BNC cables run to your DVR and there will be a power slitter nearby too which all the power cables go in to

      • Cheers. Trying to justify the additional cost and the ease of installation from these to an IP camera setup.

        • They arent that hard to install, finding/ creating a hole for the cables to run into is the hardest part really / if the cables arent long enough

  • The cables are power and BNC combined.
1 wall outlet for 4 cameras + 1 for the HDD so 3 wall outlets all up.
You need to be able to run the cables from the HDD to the cameras.

  • How much to run all the cable to the living room for existing house?
Do we gonna drill some hole for these cabling? Cat5 or Cat6 cables?
I really struggling to get this done.

    • You only need one cat5/ cat6 cable and it is included in the deal. the only use for the ethernet cable is to connect the DVR to your router so you can view it remotely on your phone etc. The cabling for the cameras are included too.

Yeah you need to drill or find another hole where you can put the cable through.

  • We got ours installed a few months ago. The app is not the best- it needs to be restarted every now and then but it does the job.
I broke one of the cameras whilst installing it. If anyone does not need 4 cameras and have a spare 1, I'd be interested.

    • How's the system performance overall? Good picture clarity day/night?

      • really good if you were to install it indoors.

Outdoors; not the best but good enough for the price- exactly what you would expect for 720p. At night, it is just Ok but we've got light sensors next to the cameras so we don't see the quality as a problem at all.

    • Not sure if this is really a thing, but can this unit be remotely re-started? You said it needs to be restarted from time to time. But if you are on a holiday, no chance that you could physically restart it.

      • Perhaps plug it into a wemo switch?

        • Could work. But does this unit has a physical "on" botton? Because if thats the case, the wemo switch won't work right?

        • @Macky1012: It should, becasue the physical button would be on, it's like switching off at the power so maybe not being as nice to the device, but someone who knows more about wemo switches might be able to comment.

Unless the physical switch is not a mechanical one, and it a soft switch, then the unit would have to automatically power on when powered but you would think that's a default design consideration for security equipment (but yes it would be good for someone to confirm, as after all it's Swann :-))

I read it as the app needed to be restarted every now and then.

      • that's correct. the app needs to be restarted. it is called homesafe view- check out the ratings on your play store.

we've never had to restart the actual unit.

  • Thanks OP.

Lmao some of the comments above are hilarious.
