Sony Hdr Cx405 Digital Video Camera $264.95 Delivered @ Ted's Camera

60

Seemed very good price to me. The fast f1.8 Zeiss lens makes low light situations a breeze and with a 30x optically stabilised zoom, you can get up close to the action with ease.

It's a device that's used to capture what you see on your TV jv.

      • Our local museum has some I think.

Does anybody buy these anymore given that prosumer cameras with superzoom can also capture videos?

Let's see you find a image stabilised 30x optical zoom @ 1080p for $265 in a prosumer body.

        You mean optical stabilisation.

30x telephoto is a relic of 1980s spec sheets, people just bought the camcorder with the biggest zoom because they had nothing else to compare. Except no one actually records a bird from 500 metres away.

The video from a modern smartphone is incredibly impressive. I am super skeptical on this stuff and even I am amazed. This suits 90% of people. 9% are using a DSLR for video and 1% are using something more like an NX100 or professional outfit. Made up numbers okay but I struggle to see a home for this type of camcorder outside of grandparents.

        • I had a camcorder similar to this model. Never used it and ended up selling it a few years later.
I prefer a digital camera because they are more compact and take better photos.
It's good if you want to take lots of video and need the high zoom.

[creepy] I record many birds from more than 500 metres away, otherwise I'm breaking restraining orders :) [/creepy]

but in reality a large optical zoom can be incredibly useful for videoing wildlife and getting the number plates of the (profanity) using your street as a drag race way.

  • These low end video cameras have below average video quality. Look good in camera and terrible once you playback on PC or TV.

    • which is why checking reviews on youtube is always an excellent way to see the quality of the video, especially when indoors / dark situations.. lower end cameras usually appear to have very grainy video when shooting in darker areas and are much better suited to day time / outside video recording.

  • I use a DSLR for recording video now, so it's more that I have one device, batteries and charger for stills and video …… phones …. they suck in low light conditions e.g kids birthdays and the candle thing, especially if lights turned off due to such a small lens on phones.

  • People still buy these?

I still got my Sony cam with Hi8 cassette :) bought from Archie Martin Vox year 2000 for $1049
