Really needing an internal HDD for gaming. Any suggestions guys?

    • +3

Depends how many games. Go go SSD. Size depends on how many games you play.
If you want 1 or 2 games on SSD and rest on HDD ( swap back when you want to play others as HDD play is slow), then 256 GB SSD should be fine. Personally, I would go for a 500 GB SSD if money is not a big constraint.

Thanks gaggy, I saw a 500gb version for $260 minus 20% but I didn't pull the trigger as im new to PC gaming and it's sold out. Ahh well

Will keep an eye out. Thanks again.

PC games nowadays are getting bigger and bigger,

most exceed 20 gb, and some of which are even 50 gb or so

    • Seagate or WD, whatever's cheapest, check the warrarenty too these things die eventually.

      • by the time they die you won't care ….. like warranty on 2GB SD card ….. I'm surprised people are even buying 250GB SSD anymore.

  • Any difference between EVO and PRO?

    • Yes, Pro is quite a bit quicker. A novice user wouldn't always feel the difference in regular tasks, but a professional ie content creator who relies on SSD speed heavily would definitely go for a PRO

      • Does the Pro need to use extra RAM through the Magician software? I have this exact same drive and I wonder sometimes whether the option that the Magician software turned on is doing diddly squat. I only have 8gb of ram.

    • Most importantly for me is the warranty,

      http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/support/fa…

its 5 years for EVO and 10 Years for PRO

but for some people 5 years are long enough

Prices haven't dropped much since 2015?

    • no, mainly due to supply constraint.

I picked up a 500GB Samsung EVO version in 2015/6 $180 so prices have gone up.

This happened with RAM as well during the Thailand floods, prices shot up for a year or so.

They Dropped a lot, then went back up in early 2017.

Thanks - great resource for price monitoring

  • How would a 500GB SSD go in a PS4 Pro? Worth the upgrade over stock 1TB drive then use a external hard drive for more storage

I am assuming I can use this to replace my primary hard drive for my desktop operating system?

    • +1

I am assuming I can use this to replace my primary hard drive for my desktop operating system?

Yes of course, you will need need a spare bay and Sata 3 cable or you could also use a usb 2.5 inch enclosure and replace the hdd afterwards.

Depending on your case and how you want to mount it you might also need a 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch adapter.

Most likely your hdd will be bigger than 250 gb so first you might need to reduce it down a bit, back up any large files such as games, movies etc to a separate drive or partition. You can then use a tool to clone your Os to your Ssd I like to use MiniTool Partition Wizard but you can also uses Samsung's data migration software, or a countless number of other programs.

  • has anyone order been marked as shipped yet?

    • Yep. I received an AusPost email this morning saying it's due for delivery today.

      • yeah same, it looks like they don't mark it as shipped on ebay.
