2011 NIV Women's Devotional Bible - $5.25 (was $34.99)
GNB Hardcover Compact Bible - $1.65 (was $10.99)
HCSB Gift & Award Bible, Imitation Leather - $2.75 (was $10.99)
NIV Study Bible - $51.75 (was $114.99)

2000 year old stock being cleared out in the bargain bin? :p

    • +26

Haha it is a bit of a clearance sale…the Bible is still the Bible though, you know what you're getting even if it's an unpopular version :P

      • +31

the one I read seems to be missing the ending.

        • +15

Still waiting for the announced sequel hey?

Don't worry, it'll probably happen long before the final Game Of Thrones books are released.

        • +13

          @surethang:

Mine was missing the disclaimer on the page at the front that says:

"Any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental"

        • +4

@surethang: oh i thought they were an Old Testiment spin off?

        • the Bible is a trilogy, part three is The book of Mormon.

      • +1

wait… this is the exact same book as always? no improvements?

    • Harold be thy name

  • +43

Thank God I'm an atheist. I can't be tempted by this deal.

    • +6

It is pretty late in the EOFYS season after all! I have spent far too much money on games I'll probably never get around to playing :(

    • +51

      Thank God I'm an atheist.

      Oxymoron

      • +42

Well if he's an atheist, he's probably referring to Dallas Mavericks player development coach God Shammgod, creator of the Shammgod dribble crossover. One of the coolest basketball players to never really have a big NBA career!

      • +3

He means "thank imaginary deity that I'm an atheist".

        • +9

BSAalex believes in 1 of 7000 gods, so there are 6999 gods that we both don't believe in. So really he's only a little less atheist than me.

        • Realistically doesn't that make him Agnostic, not Atheist?

    • +28

Q: How do you know if someone is an Atheist/Feminist/Vegan?

      A: They'll tell you!!

      • +9

I'd hate to meet someone that's all three-in-one!

        • +21

Don't ever visit Melbourne then LOL!

        • +1

          @mattlol:

Should've told me that a few years ago! Too late. I'm here now!

I've actually got a few of the F's and V's (that is, people who are both) at my workplace - I haven't had a chance to ask about their religion because I just try to avoid them! hahaha

        • +3

          @bobbified:

I'd say feminists are the scariest of the lot

        • +2

@mattlol: what a time to live in Melbourne. I tell people now I'm from Adelaide

        • +2

I'd hate to meet someone that's all three-in-one!

          Hi!

        • +1

          @thevofa:

did someone just say something? hahaha

        • That's why Conservatives have the name Conservative…….

      • +6

Don't forget Crossfitters. They do it to.

      • +3

In my experience it’s Cheistians who are eager to share their world views with you.

      • or a crossfitter

    • Thank God I'm an atheist. I can't be tempted by this deal.

You will get burned by it though.

        • +1

          @jv:

I didn't know that the apostles were grocers!

  • +6

Well Jesus said that you received freely, give freely. Its a bit hypocritical to "charge" for something when jesus said to "give" it for free in the bible.

    • +7

When it comes to a publishing house creating yet another 'version' to copyright, promote and profit from it is a problem.

Providing a service to produce say an out of copyright KJV, where people are willing to share the costs and recognise the value therein - the labourer is worthy of their hire.

There are many examples of Bibles being provided for free. Look in your motel drawer, school distribution etc.

Give 'true riches' for free without expecting anything in return, in turn some hearers support with freewill choice to support 'the labourer that is worthy of their hire' labouring in Bible teaching.

      • +6

Are you saying we can steal one from Motel drawers?

        • +13

It is not stealing, there is a society that place bible there for you to take it.

        • +5

          @highdealer: The Gideons

        • @highdealer:

I think you means "read" it - not take!

        • +1

@edwardcr: The point is to spread their belief, they are more than happy for you to take it if that mean you will read it. Not a lot of people have the time to finish the whole bible in the short time they stay at a hotel room.

        • +1

@edwardcr: No, you're welcome to take it. Read an interview once where they said it. They check rooms every so often and replace it.

        • @GregMonarch:
          I stand corrected. I didn't know that!

        • @highdealer: Light fingers are the pathway to a light heart.

      • -1

There are many examples of Bibles being provided for free. Look in your motel drawer, school distribution etc.

Of course they are but we arent talking about them, i personally was simply pointing out our friend BSAAlex was being a hypocrite for selling these against the commands of Jesus.

    • +8

thats just plain silly. It costs money to publish, print and distribute the Bible. Thus the Bible Society certainly did not get it for free.
Further, the Bible Society is a charity.

      • +1

Also if you’re reading this you can get digital versions of it for free. But even wth unlimited free distribution the Bible as a book to actually read has a pretty niche audience even amongst christians.

      • -6

thats just plain silly. It costs money to publish, print and distribute the Bible. Thus the Bible Society certainly did not get it for free.

Well, you are in other words calling jesus an idiot for not being aware of how the ancient or even modern worlds operate.

Further, the Bible Society is a charity.

Being a charity means they dont pay tax, nothing else. THey arent doing any noble good.

    • +2

they didn't exactly get the paper and ink given to them for free…

      • -6

they didn't exactly get the paper and ink given to them for free…

Well dont tell me, tell Jesus who was supposed to be a big know it all.

        • christians can't take everything the bible says literally otherwise they will have people drinking venom to show they are true christians

or maybe that is Gods hidden message. Drink the venom to prove yourself and you will be transported to heaven while the rest stay in "hell" aka earth

        • @ilovepizza:

Mark 16 doesnt say drink poison to go to heaven, it only says Christians wont be affected by drinking poison.

        • @ninetyNineCents:

          hidden message

    • +12

If I send you one of my personal Bibles, would you promise to read it? :P

You can get it for free in the app store though :)

      • -8

        @BSAAlex

If I send you one of my personal Bibles, would you promise to read it? :P

Dont change the subject. Jesus didnt say give me or give one bible for free… he is quite clearly saying to give his message to all for free.

If you are going to call yourself a christian you should at least respect what jesus tells you, otherwise you are mocking your mission and making it a joke.

        • +11

The Gospel is definitely free for anyone wanting to listen. In fact, if you genuinely wanted a bible to read it, I would buy you one myself.

Further, BSA regularly provide free bibles and works with missions around the world to produce and distribute free bibles.

My comments were clearly directed at BSA "selling" bibles.

Except jesus said to "give" freely.

Any NIV 1984 versions left? hard to find those any more!

    • +2

Hey the69thhokage, unfortunately we've completely run out of 1984 NIVs. I'm a fan of it too, but unfortunately Biblica aren't issuing any licenses for additional print runs now - they're putting their foot down on the 2011 edition. Those old 1984s are a real collector's item now - my church still uses them but they're all falling apart…

      • +10

"Biblica aren't issuing any licenses for additional print runs now - they're putting their foot down on the 2011 edition. "

        Let's hope God doesn't find out…..

      • -2

NIV = Naive Illiterate Version. The translation that tells us satan is the same being as Jesus. (Among various other heresies which align with the 'personal inclination' of one of the ones heading the translation.)

        • You need to provide some proof of what you are claiming…

  • -2

Here it comes, time to rip into Christians. The one religion that it is okay to abuse in this PC country. Funny logic.

    • +21

Nobody has, at least not yet. Don't start one either please.

      • +1

It's discrimination!! They're only favouring Christians with their discounts!

Where's the discounted Koran for us Bhuddists?

        There… I started it! haha

        • Um, since when did Buddhists follow the Koran?

        • +2

@montorola: Well, when I stir shit, I have to bring my own into it. haha

        • @montorola: Not Buddhists, Bhuddists. It's another word for Muslims.

        • @Meconium: That's one word I've never heard used in reference to them.

    • +7

No one is ripping into Christians, rather questioning the ideology - and it should be free to be questioned and scrutinised. No one should attack any Christian personally though.

      • +4

Yet heaven forbid anyone question other ideologies, without feeling the wrath of the social justice warriors.

        • +4

You seriously think other ideologies don't get questioned?

        • +3

          @hunters:

You seriously think other ideologies don't get questioned?

They sure do, then the PC police ride in on their white horses.

A perfect example of this is Bill Maher. He is an atheist. He continually questions Christianity. The Left love him (as do I mostly). Then one time he questions another religion, the Left turned on him instantly.

        • +2

Right but that faction of the left are clearly idiots that are led around like sheep.

For example the social justice warrior platform of Hilary Clinton led around a lot of idiots. Clinton is a woman who loudly proclaimed that gay marriage was sinful and should never be made legal. In 2013.

Think about that. This is the person these fools are following.

        • They're all equally bogus, I think we can agree on that.

        • @PainToad:

Are you referring to the episode where Ben Affleck got emotional?

        • @hunters: Certainly not here they don't. I mentioned where a percentage of the proceeds of a particular product go - and got banned for a week. Meanwhile, it's open slather on Christianity. This is particularly confusing given who the site owner is.

      • and it should be free to be questioned and scrutinised.

        only by those without faith…

      • All religion should be able to withstand the test of scrutiny and question. If you believe in something without question, it is not a belief, it is wikipedia.

        • +1

All religion should be able to withstand the test of scrutiny and question

True, it is good to do this, however …

I usually try and steer clear of the fiction shelves in bookshops. Anything for me here?

Err Christianity hasn't been one religion for 2000 years. Theres about 30,000 sects. Hardly one religion :-)

some of us feel all religions are the poison that makes the world like it is and would like all religions outlawed

          Scam

I haven't seen any genuine scrutiny or questioning. The comments so far haven't been too bad, they are usually a lot worse with deals for Christians. The mods regularly get on the front foot when deals are posted for religions. They sometimes threaten bans before anyone has made a comment so I would encourage averyone to keep things civil. I have been reminded in the past to give them sufficient time to get in an make a comment and delete posts that don't meet the commenting guidelines.

I enjoy people taking the piss at things. However its is not nice to take the piss for the purpose personal attack and ridicule, like some comedian.

Some question to learn. some question to ridicule.

        • @heal: How is that stuff not "genuine"? Just because it doesn't pander to your emotions, doesn't mean it's not genuine.

I genuinely believe it's a scam. I genuinely believe it's poison and that it would be great it they could all be outlawed. Christianity having a ridiculous number of sects is an irrefutable fact. I genuinely believe the book is fiction.

        • @callum9999:

it would be great it they could all be outlawed

You could be the head of the Ministry of Truth.

Good thing this is not an Islam thread as your comments would not be tolerated.

I can't debate an opinion or your emotions about Christianity.

        • @BuyoTheCat: You're not allowed to question, or learn, in some countries. It's getting to that stage in Australia. Watch "Rebel Media" on youtube for an eye-opening experience, Australia - of where we're heading.

        • @GregMonarch:

Agree. Just look at the lack of moderation with deals for Christians. I know the mods are busy, but it is not hard to see that the title is one that refers to religion and get on the front foot, as was done with these deals.

          I'm reporting my own post.

        • @heal: I'm not sure you understand the meaning of the phrase "Ministry of Truth"…

Of course it would be tolerated. "Boo hoo - us poor Christians are always discriminated against while Muslims have a free ride" is not only hilariously false, it's also rather offensive to to the huge level of suffering many of them are subjected to. And for the record, I would (and have) said the exact same things in "Islam threads". They're incredibly similar religions after all - it would be nonsensical to find one convincing or worthy of respect and not the other.

I never expected you to be able to. It's somewhat of a prerequisite to being a Christian.

        • @callum9999:

Boo hoo - us poor Christians are always discriminated against while Muslims have a free ride" is not only hilariously false, it's also rather offensive to to the huge level of suffering many of them are subjected to

          http://www.foxnews.com/world/2017/01/06/christians-most-pers…

Christians in Australia have it pretty good compared to the rest of the world. Let's not let facts get in the way of your opinions. After all the Ministry of Truth is in charge of propaganda. The irony is in the name.

        • @heal: Fox News, why am I not surprised…

You do have it pretty good, so stop your utterly pathetic bleating about how dreadful everyone is to you.

        • @callum9999:

Plenty of other sites but I gather you don't bother to research.

          I actually said;

Christians in Australia have it pretty good compared to the rest of the world.

… so there's no pathetic bleating or boo hoo from me. You seem a bit riled up from a few facts.

Last post from me, you are free to continue with your pathetic vitriol.

        • @heal: Why would I need to research it? It's a completely irrelevant point. Not that I said it was inaccurate, I'm just not surprised you chose Fox News.

You actually said many things. I'm not solely responding to that one line, I'm responding to the bleating about how hard Christians here have it and how Islam would never be criticised somewhere like this. I would call you delusional but that goes without saying, what with your belief of an invisible sky God watching us all.

    • Err Christianity hasn't been one religion for 2000 years. Theres about 30,000 sects. Hardly one religion :-)

      • +4

Theres about 30,000 sects. Hardly one religion

They do have one important thing in common though…

      • I've heard differing opinions on the amount of sects

        Can you quote your source?

Not bagging you, am just curious

        • +4

Supabrudda always exaggerates when it comes to the amount of sects going on.

        • +1

World Christian Encyclopedia by Barrett, Kurian, Johnson

They claim 33,000 back in 2001.

        • @supabrudda:

Wow, that's a lot. I read once on a wikipedia article that there were 17,000. It was a while ago and couldn't even remember if that was all religions or just christianity

        • +1

@slipperypete: i assume it take into account various splitters (like the Judean People's Front and the Popular Front of Judeah) within the various churches.

Maybe that 33k was misinterupted. according to this they count demoninations (which I interchange with sect) per country, So I assume that means the First Baptist Church of South Park in Colorado & the First Baptist Church of South Park in Bali would be counted as 2 demoninations, not 1.
