  • IPS Panel?

    • I believe it's a TN panel

      • They are shipping with IPS now.

Source: Me. I have one with IPS
Source 2: Whirlpool thread have multiple confirmation

EDIT: The ebay listing doesnt say IPS, but the dell.com one does. I ordered from Dell website with the 15% off and 8% cashback.

        • +1

Can you point me in the 8% cashback please… im going to return my model which arrived with the Non IPS display and misadvertised.

          cashrewards.com.au

As if an ozbargainer doesnt know where to go!

        • @crazycs:

Thanks for this, I was skeptical seeing this but I'll give it a try!

        • @dannycheapcheap:
After cashback I got the i5 model and 3 years on site for $1342.

According to my cash rewards statement they applied the 8% cashback on a purchase price of $1535…. but I only paid $1465 through the Dell website after 15% off.

      • People have bought off ebay & have got an IPS panel, see here - the "Dell Order Acknowledgement" email should list it as "LCD 15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display" - if not call Dell to cancel order, good thing about Dell is they will cancel any order & refund, no questions asked.

  • +1

Yeah I'm 95% sure this is IPS.

I am about to drop some cash for one of these (the 17in MSI the other day looked good but way to heavy/big). Looking for a basic gaming laptop (a big PC is a no no with a baby climbing up things) Will be connected to a 1080p TV most of the time with a wireless controller.

Any other recommendations before I part ways with my hard earned??

  • I just contacted Dell and they can't apparently price match going through their normal website, so silly.

    • Probably because you can get 8% Cashback from Cashrewards v 1.3% from ebay & also ebay does subsidize these x% off sales.

I went with the Acer Predator G9 for just under $200 more. A 1070 and 17" screen was worth it, although I note this has the slightly better processor (6700 on the Predator). Fancy coloured lights on the keyboard I don't care so much about.

    • +1

Yea I think paying an extra $200 for a 1070 is the better deal. Would have pulled the trigger myself but I didn't already have a gaming desktop

  • It's probably correct that they've updated this to an IPS panel as mentioned above, but I know my dad bought one of these about 2 or 3 months ago and it has a TN panel. Which kinda makes sense for a "gaming" machine I guess.

  • the real question is, can it run PUBG…..

    • It can easily.

    Has red WASD keys. Pass.

    • What colour were you expecting?

      • No colour. Red WASD keys makes it exclusively a gamers' laptop.

        • Dell advertises it as a Gaming laptop, get inspiron 5000 series if colour bothers you

  • I just remembered, I was surprised to find that my dad's laptop shipped with a single 16GB stick of RAM, rather than 2x 8GB sticks. I've actually seen this as an option on other systems, to just get a single stick of RAM. Surely on a dual channel setup you'd want 2 banks of RAM right?

    • Dual channel really only needed when you're using the native intel graphics. When you are using a graphics card, then it makes no difference, AFAIK.

      • Yeah ok, I always thought it had something to do with hyper-threading CPUs.. so it can access 2 different banks at once or something.

Can we get a 13 inch version please.
