Whoop, how did i miss that. =)
Thanks
Essentially same deal in store too, as they have 15% off ticketed prices for TVs.
Sorry, what is ticketed price?
The price people pay when they can't haggle.
Thanks :-)
Very nice price, we payed 1880 for this exact TV (I think) at Good guys two weeks ago, though we got two pairs of glasses thrown in as well as the two with a blu-ray player from Samsung.
Does anyone know if you get any glasses straight up with this TV too?
Yes there should be one or two pairs in the tv box. Haven't you received your tv yet? Just cancel it and get this one.
Yes we've already got ours, it came with two pairs of glasses. We're stuffing around with the Samsung website currently to get the 3rd and 4th :S
Just trying to figure out if you still get 3 or 4 total with this deal as well?
As a side note, the glasses we got straight away were packed seperately, and processed as a seperate free item by Good Guys, though there were no glasses in the box. Just something weird.
Arghhhhh I paid $2100 for this tv in June!!!
Ps. Can't believe I'm voting positive for a JB deal!
Oh! A question for a fellow user of this TV, have you possibly figured out a way of getting a 5.1 signal from the optical audio out on the TV? We've been searching through the options a heap to somewhere find something that might change the output, as it seemingly refuses to do anything but 2.0.
On page 42 of the manual, it says " when connecting the tv optical out jack to the digital audio input on the home theatre, the optical jack only outputs 2 channel audio… If you want to hear 5.1 channel audio connect the digital audio out jack on the DVD/satellite box to the home theatre not the tv. "
Which doesn't help at all. I see on the menu on the tv there is a Dolby option but it is greyed out.. Don't know why they would tease you if you can't turn it on.. Maybe a reason to convince the wife to upgrade the home theatre so you can use the ARC function of the HDMI 1.4… Haha
No idea mate :( I've been able to use the Dolby digital before, not sure what those circumstances were, but it remained with 2.0 sound, and it didn't seem any clearer.
Anyone care to comment on the quality of this TV?
For the bit of time we've had it, it's great. Love the styling (a brushed look with horizontal lines rather than a shiny or matte finish) and the picture quality is very nice. It handles moving images quite well. You can notice however when stuff is not moving heaps the image is smoothed incredibly well, though when stuff moves faster and the TV can't process it, it switches off the motion smoothing and it's quite jarring.
I'm not sure how it compares to other TVs, if they're like this one but this plasma very quickly experiences burn in. I've left the PS3 sitting on a menu for a few minutes then came back and you could already see outlines of things sticking. It faded, but take note. AVOID static images.
What about the 600Hz sound from the TV. Can you hear it?
600Hz sound? I haven't noticed any. We have the speakers muted and use a sound system if that makes a difference, but have noticed no sound from the screen itself.
That's temporary image retention. That stuff fades after 15-20min.
It's the permanent image burn you hae to be worried about. That should take a bit longer to achieve though (~hours)
I also have this tv. Straight out of the box I was a bit worried the picture had horrible motion judder, but what do you expect without fine tuning it. I found some forums after a bit of searching and people have commented on their settings and I just copied theirs exactly and the picture came out amazing. I'm very happy with it and I have never owned a plasma before, only LCD, but for this price could you go past this deal. And the 3D is pretty cool as well. Not so much the 2d>3d conversion but the 3d movie comes up pretty well. I read heaps of reviews before I bought it and went and looked at it a few dozen times before I decided and I would buy it again. If your in the market for an upgrade and want all the new features then it has almost everything u could want. I can even use my iPhone as a remote. Hehe. But the remote that comes with the tv is one of the most impressive things I have seen!
Care to share those amazing settings with everyone?
you could just google it as well.. but you asked for it:
Before starting select the 'movie' setting or else you will not be able to adjust the 10 point white balance. I found it a little bland in colour so i increased the colour to 51 and gamma to +2 and did the trick.. I have also read that it is bad to have the contrast set so high when the tv is fairly new, so i have mine set on 70 for now, to prevent early burn in or something..
Basic Parameters:
Cell Light = 14
Contrast = 85

@bargainben: Cool, we're very happy with the picture already but will have to try these settings out, if it could be even better :)
Also strange, the website wants you to buy a $2001-3000 range warranty with it. Maybe this needs to be updated :P
Hey i sent the support team an email asking about this and got this in reply.
You can add the corresponding warranty as a seperate item to your shopping cart:

$$$$1598
Hello,everybody
I just bought one at retravision Highpoint at $1598 last week.
Total I got three pair of glasses, one was in the tv box, another two I claimed, still on the way.
Don't be shy to haggle, you'd be surprised how low they could go but a bit of research would be handy. I scored my PS58C7000 for $2470 delivered with 5 year warranty. I know this TV costs between around $1900 - $2000 to the retailers so I think I did well. JB have it advertised at $2376 at the moment and GameOn has it for $2299, so the price I got is fairly reasonable.
Oh don't let them tell you rubbish like "the cost price on my screen does not allow me to accept your offer" etc because what they see on the screen is the retailer's target/ideal lowest price they want to sell at.
where does it say the Samsung redemption offer has been extended?
