  • The 640Gb Acer can be had for $78

Lol he meant the 640GB Acer for $78. See how his comment is indented, that means he is replying to the person above him.

thats sweet of you to explain :)

      • hmmm I can't find the Acer's deal, can u link me to that post, please?

        • I don't know the link, apparently BenMHarvey does.

          • @ozhunter: http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=640Gb+2.5%22&sp…

There's a Samsung branded one for NSW buyers

I bought my $78 Acer 640Gb HDD at the recent Harvey Norman 1 Day Sale, obviously over but if anyone wished I can upload a receipt I did see them continuing the special pricing on the following Monday. It might be worth asking or haggling Harvey Norman

@BenMHarvey: The Samsung one for $78 at Arc Computers has specific conditions, otherwise it's $84 (which is still pretty good though)

get ready for the flaming, humblebee. you've said the forbidden phrase on ozbargain

"be nice, my first post" (lol)

      Flambé

Exactly. "Be nice, my first post". Seriously? This isn't intercourse.

      • lol. you are hilarious man…
wee willl be verrrrrry verrrry niceeeeee to the poster ;)

    • Oh, good deal by the way. +1 from me :D

    • That's a 500GB drive. The product code is wdbr0500bk . If you search on google it indicates a 500GB

  • "walk in, walk out" (lol)

    • reminds me of the xbox 360 joke

  • Nice, it's in their online store too.

  • It's an okay deal especially given the free shipping when ordered online, though personally I'd prefer the Samsung S2 640GB drive for $89, which is quite a bit more compact than this one.

    • Actually the samsung has a greater volume and is heavier, just different dimensions.

      Seagate: 130,000mm3, 170g
      Samsung: 154,734mm3, 160g

      • err… 160>170 ?

        • Yeah i can't type, the seagate is 160g

          • @winter: If the seagate is 160g, is the seagate still 130k mm3, or is it 154k mm3?

    • After adding the item to my cart, and estimating shipping to my post code, it comes up with free shipping and a $5.00 handling fee.

And…so does ordering online but picking it up in store.

Is this the same with for other people?

      • ALL OW online orders have a $4.95 Handling Fee afaik.
If your total order is $55+, then you qualify for free courier shipping (same business day if ordered before 11am I think, check the time for same business day thingo)
I would suggest you guys to make an online pricematch request on multiple items (from all over the place, MSY and others), then just bum out on the $5 handling fee, and get OW to ship your stuff to you (for free cause of $55+ = Free courier shipping)

        • Cool thanks for the confirmation and advice

  • It;s not online. I tried to buy it and it said that its not available in back order. So, didn't let me buy it.

  • This is pretty cheap!

MSY has a 500 GB for $99 lol. Will probably buy this from Officeworks tonight!

  • So can anyone post link from where we can buy the Samsung drive for $89. I just want to buy any of these drive online for that price (under $100).

  • Harvey Norman at Martin Place Sydney have the Acer 640GB in a bargain bin for $88

  • Can these be disassembled without breaking the case? I'm after a 640GB drive to put in a PS3 plus an external case to put the old PS3 drive in. If this can be disassembled without destroying the case it could be a good solution.

    • msot exernal case you can disassemble and re-assemble without issue (providing you are careful with in). usual ones that can;t be put together is when you break the plastic snap on ones.

i found an article with describe how to take the freeagent go apart:
      http://forum.notebookreview.com/hardware-components-aftermar…

i am 90% sure it;s the same model. i will try to see if i got any lyign around at work tomorow(an attempt to take it apart, and put it bak together)

    • Yep, this can be disassembled and the drive inside removed and replaced. Check out these videos to see how it's done:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjllfIpb9UE
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMzRYCZXVEs

Pay attention to the second video from 1:40 onwards. He raises a possible problem with inserting a different hdd into the case. He didn't demonstrate what he was saying, so you'll have to judge whether your existing hdd would be able to fit.

  • I had a look for this at Officeworks in Sydney CBD (Clarence St, near Wynyard) today at about 4pm. I was told they have no stock of 640GB whatsoever, and are waiting for new stock to come in.

  • I'm thinking about swapping out the 320gb WD Scorpio Blue in my laptop and replacing it with the 640gb Seagate in this one. The old 320gb would go into this case for use as a portable hdd.

Do you guys think it would be smarter instead to buy a 640gb Scorpio Blue to replace the one in the laptop, and buying a separate enclosure for the 320gb?

    Issues:
    1. Don't know if the 320gb will fit into the seagate enclosure
    2. Specs for the Scorpio Blue are known(?)
    3. Warranty

    Cheers

  • Hooray for an SA deal!

  • I just ordered one… be interesting to see how long it takes for delivery. BTW I noticed online that the docking station is also on clearance. I paid $40 I think and it is no $18.85. Is very handy and will work with all the older generation drives (640GB and below I think). I also noticed the 500Gb is supposedly on clearance for $109 but the 640Gb for $88.17! Also products details here: http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/datasheet/disc/ds_fa_go.pdf

    • Boo, it won't let me order online, says they don't have any. This is in Canberra.

      • Sorry I should have clarified that I was in WA.

  • Purchased online this morning around 11am and was delivered this afternoon at 4pm ..Excellent as far as I am concerned as I had purchased a 500Gb Seagate Go only a week ago for $109.00 …
