  • Sexist.

    • and Ageist!

Very much so. Government funded program excluding 50% of all people due to how they were born? I'll be surprised if they don't get called on it soon enough.

      • -3

They won't, there's only outrage at men.

There's also the Royal Women's Hospital, I have no idea why women need a dedicated hospital and men don't.

Blatant sexism by the government using taxpayer's money.

I'm sure when men start giving birth and need the level of access to obstetrics and gynaecology they'll build some specifically for men…

But 'Melbourne Lying-In Hospital and Infirmary for Diseases of Women and Children' for example, wasn't "taxpayer" funded… it started out as a philanthropic endeavor by middle-upper class women trying to help out their less fortunate sisters…

But hey, keep raging against those "keeping men down"

@kudoz: yeah, you're correct. Men aren't many times more likely to be subject to violent crime. Nor are they far more likely to experience health problems at a younger age and they certainly don't die younger and have shorter life expectancies than women.
Men are also lucky that if they enter a profession such as teaching or nursing, there isn't an automatic assumption by many women and some other men that they're probably paedophiles. Come to think of it, men probably don't even pay more than half the taxes that fund these programs, so what have they got to whinge about?

I knew someone was going to say that.

What "level of access", obstetrics and gynaecology can be done in a general hospital, just like it is around the country.

Men also have their unique health issues, would you also suggest a dedicated hospital for them?

And I couldn't care less about its history, it's still sexist and regardless of its origins it's funded by NHR: https://goo.gl/o76dAi

Imagine the outrage if it were the other way around.

But hey, keep raging against those "keeping men down"

I fail to see how an exercise class for women only is not sexist, especially when you consider that women live longer than men.

But hey, keep peddling the PC and white knight spiel.

        • @Scab: when applying logic and equity (diff to equality) = "PC and white knight"… you've gotta laugh

          There's a reason someone was going to say it… because it's true…

Just like people shouldn't bemoan federal projects that try and help MEN in the areas that they need it. Feel free to complain about these ones below… you know, to balance your outrage and prove your point.

          Key word being "need".

I fail to see how women "need" a dedicated hospital, nor do I see how they need jazzercise classes when they live longer than men?

        • @Scab: Then that's up to you to either a) do the research (as professionals have done) or b) listen to others who have read said research that indicates a need…

Quite literally, from the page: https://campaigns.health.gov.au/girlsmove/insights

Young women experience a number of barriers that prevent them from being as physically active as young men. Research has identified the fear of being judged or ridiculed as a key barrier for young women wishing to be physically active7.

        • @Scab: Pretty good arguments for a men's hospital too - hopefully it'll happen at some point (though of course does in no way negate the need for women's / children's hospitals… of course)

hopefully it'll happen at some point

Hopefully it won't, there's no need for a major specialist hospital that caters to one gender.

General hospitals are more than capable of dealing with both men's and women's issues, they've been doing that for decades.

I'm not against funding for a particular gender if the need is there, I just fail to see it in this case.

Anyway, end of my rant so I don't derail.

  • C'mon SA, give me the jazzercise :(

  • Wow!so "many" locations!!!
And for victoria, they are in the rich suburbs.Yay, more freebies for those who can already afford. Thank you.
