  • How good/bad is this TV? Been looking at one for a while now

    • Not sure about quality. But 4/5 rating out of 101 reviews on their own website

      • +10

        Which means absolutely nothing.

        • +5

          exactly

      • +3

on a side note last time i left a negative review on item from david jones it was litterly refused lol.

so yea im guessing kogan refusing negative review as well

    • From what I always see on here advice is stay away from kogan brand TV unless amazing price, which this is not…

      • so out of the 'lower end' brands, which would you go for?

        • +4

Hisense. Their m7000 series was awesome.

        • Last time ozb discussed that I think we settled on buy local if el cheapo brand, I personally went a Aldi one, no regrets, knew sound was not the best and bought a sound bar.

Hisense arn't terrible, if you waited for a deal should be able to get 550-600 as a smart TV…

JB often have their brand ones this price or less.

I'm sure someone more in the know on TV stuff will have some more input.

        • @Slippery Fish: I was reading on OzB that the recent Aldi TVs have same OEM as Tempo brand?
          Comment is in this deal:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/305144

        • @snorbert: this isn't a smart TV afaik. And I'd much rather deal with Aldi than kogan…

And so that one isn't either lol oops :p

Based on the reviews I'd say its a decent TV for the price, i wouldnt expect anything that would match up with a 2k+ Sony tho…

I was thinking about jumping on one of these but may wait for another Sony deal on a 4k HDR tv for those Planet Earth 2 HDR adventures

      • Please note, this is not a smart TV.

        • +5

Trust me, no matter how 'Smart' the tv is, you're going to most likely have either a Apple TV/Chromecast and/or PS4/XB1 hooked onto this, all of which are far superior alternatives to any 'Smart' function.

Same goes with sound quality, you're most likely going to have at least a soundbar..

        • +1

@tightm8: not if u buy a smart tv that has the same functionality. My Sony tv with android. Just No need for my Apple TV or chromecast so sold em

  • i see these come up on gumtree every now and then for around similar price, which they swear theyre working fine

    • -1

      No1 sells a working fine 55inch on gumtree ROFL…

      • Why not? What if one has upgraded?

        • +1

It was sorta a joke that 55 is a pretty decent size to really need replacing, I'm sorry you didn't get the subtext.

      • +1

I've had my "working fine" 46 inch Sony 2012 model LCD up on there… still waiting for a buyer (been 2 years)

  • Have one of this—- not the best but ok for what you pay. You may need a sound bar as the speakers are not the best. If you plan to have a TV for >5 years don't go for it. If you need to move/get rid of it sooner to buy a better one — not bad quality for price

    • How's the picture quality, and input lag or ghosting?

      • +1

Sorry for a late reply… picture quality is not too bad. There is input lag as compared to LG which I replaced it with. Have not encountered ghosting. Also I got it for 425 with free shipping couple of months ago so this is not the cheapest. It mentions somewhere on the website that it has a Samsung panel… hope it helps

        • +1

Cheers. How bad is the input lag, is it bearable? Would you have noticed it if you didn't have the LG?

        • @tren:
Bearable considering I bought the LG 42 LCD in 2011 for 1k from Harvey Norman and had a power supply failure
This one is ok for what I paid for it— if you decide to buy it— try negotiating price down to 425 with free shipping( via online chat)— say you missed out when the price was at that level

  • honestly $500 shipped for 4k + thin bezels alone is worth it. picture quality will be average at least, it wont be shit but it ain't gonna be high end. speakers are always shit on the budget models, your forced to buy a soundbar or speakers, and it has no smarts so get an external smart device.

To summarise the comments above, this isn't a decent price because this tv is not:

75 inch 8k AMOLED Display 200Hz HDR 8 bit Samsung/Sony Panel, handmade in Australia certified and 10 years warranty for $499

    • curved* display

    • +3

      for $499 i'd want 10bit.

      • You will get a 10-bit but TN panel. Okay ?

  • +2

This Vs the Aldi 55" ??? anyone???

    • Wouldnt it be this just on the Samsung panel alone?

    • Both shite. Go aldi cos u can at least return it for 60 days to a store. Kogan - good luck

  • Sound is crap - so is its remote… $499 for 55" 4K LED TV.. oh yeah

    • Do you have one?

      • +1

Yes, I have been using it since 3 Yrs now. but its a 55 inch HD LED SMART 3D TV..I've attached a Sony HOME Theatre to it and its really good for the price I paid

  • +1

Series 8 KU8000? Hahahahaha, is this a Shamsong tv?

    • no but they claim it uses Samsung panel, its just misleading marketing to make you think its Samsung panel that Samsung would use in their 8000 series which is not at all true. In reality they use Samsung rejected panels which Samsung is more than happy to sell.

  • I have this TV in my office. Actually, I was quite impressed by the quality as you only pay $500 for a 55" UHD TV. It's worth the money.
But if you have more budget and want something GREAT, just buy sony etc…
It's the BEST 55" UHD TV in $500 mark and maybe the only one as well…

    • What are the tangible picture differences between this and an expensive TV that really matter?

Is if frame interpolation, upconversion, … ?

From my observation, the difference between screens is tiny, compared to the variation in source material quality.
In the days of CRT, there was a far more obvious difference in quality between TV screens, at least when watching DVD.

  • Shipping is $35 for me? To Sydney.
