  • Looking forward to a e570p deal.

    • Available at $1429 not bad deal

  • +3

DVD recordable wow. Does anyone still use these?

    • Haha, must be the same people who use mechanical hard drives.

      • Can you swap the DVD out for a SSD?

    • One word…. Mix tapes

      • To play on what?

  • Hopefully the E480/580 has USB-C

  • Is it really worth paying 1k extra to get a X1 Carbon? I have only seen ThinkPads from a distance, so I don't have much of an idea.

I do not program graphics or play video games. I'll be mostly using it for entertainment and work.

(I paid for one recently, then my bank blocked the transaction thinking thinking someone else was using my cc.)

paying 1k extra to get a X1 Carbon

It's generally a better made laptop at 1/2 the weight as well. Some people are willing to pay top dollar for something that's light and durable. If it's your tool of trade that you need to carry to sites around the world — the extra $1k isn't that significant when you divide that up by the life time of the product (usually 3 years before writing off).

    Pretty decent graphics card: https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-950M.138026…

Note there's no back-lit keyboard if that's a dealbreaker to anyone.

    • Not sure why you would need back lit keyboard, unless you don't care for your eyes and use laptop in dark?

      • +3

Sometimes you have no choice but to work in the dark, like when your partner is asleep and you need to keep working in the same room :)

        • +3

          …"working"…

        • @PainToad: At least now he can say he is OzBargaining ;)

  • My NVMe SSD is playing up on my e570, first warranty claim lodged. That didn't take long. Other than that I'm quite happy with it.

    • The E560 felt flimsy, yet bulky and heavy. Do you like feel and strength of E570?

      • +1

It's on the flimsy side and feels plasticy. it doesn't bother me though as I got it for the $ / specs ratio. The keyboard was a nice surprise and I'm happy with the screen. I don't lug the laptop around, it sits at home on a desk so can't comment on durability.

As per here, their extended warranty sounds basically worthless.

  • For those who don't need it for gaming, 3D rendering or other intensive GPU tasks - I'd probably get the cheaper 1st option

The i7-7500U processor is only approx. 10% quicker than the i5-7200U processor. Not a significant difference.

But you'd also get a SSD which would make the laptop much quicker than the latter with a regular slow hard drive. A significant difference.

However, having the GTX 950M graphics card would be a very large increase in performance in games and the like.

  • Would you be able to get the cashrewards back? Would be over $50 if you could.

    • +1

If the coupon isn't listed on CR then it's very likely you'll get no cashback.

  • How will this be for gaming? It should be right for Rising Storm 2: Vietnam right?

    • +1

It doesn't meet quite the GPU requirements listed on STeam but it should run, how well really depends on how low resolution you are willing to play on it.

      • Ah ok, I'll hold out for something more suitable! Thanks scrim

        • +1

You'd probably want something with at least a 1050ti depending on how much you want to spend.

        • @ccsvchost: Thanks. Any laptops you can recommend?

        • +1

@subywagon: Was gonna recommend the E570p but I realised the price at the moment isn't as good as it was 1 or 2 weeks ago. Still a decent price for its specs at $1429 but not sure if that's out of your price range. The Inspiron 15 Gaming is good when its on sale as well other than its terrible screen, but you do get more graphics memory than the Lenovo.

Is there any way to get that E570 that had a 256GB SSD + 16GB of RAM? I'd love to get another one of those for my family.

    • You should try calling them and quote the sale if its still active, although Lenovo are doing loads of sales coming into the End of Financial Year.

The sales reps i have come across are usually pretty good and you have nothing to lose….

  • Any deals for 14 inch Lenovo ThinkPad?? Missed couple of previous deals. Thanks

    • There's a flash sale at 9pm, so hopefully there will be more deals.

      • +1

        Thanks.

      • Thanks for the heads-up. Sadly, there's nothing on E470 i7, as I'm looking to secure one also :(

        • Yeah I have my fingers crossed for an E570 with an SSD, GTX950 and FHD screen for below 1000

But expires in 3 hours, in my opinion its an awesome price for FHD screen and SSD.

  • Any links to cheap second hdd caddy for 570?

  • Does anyone have this? The E560 felt bulky and the plastic felt thin. The whole thing felt fragile. Heavy with thin plastic is a bad mix. Is the E570 stronger? Does it basically feel good?

  • +1

Looks like there will be a flash sale at 9pm. http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/deals/current-offers/flash-sale…

Fingers crossed for one with an SSD and the GTX950m, if that is under 1000 I will be buying in an instant.

  • Thanks for the deal, just bought it!

  • NBN warranty or NBD warranty?
