  • Holy S—t

  • Whatt you guys reckon this thing good enough for just browsing and downloading? Which one of the 2 are better?

    • -1

Eh, get something with an SSD. It'll be snappier for you.

    • +1

Lol @ AMD A8 and ddr3 ram vs the i5 and ddr4 ram go hp all the way thanks scrimshaw

    • +3

It'll be overpowered if all u want to do is browsing and downloading.

  • +1

Fk I just bought a laptop, this deal so much better

  • Holy Shit! 50% off! #$@^@*

  • Very nice deal, scrimshaw. Good catch for anyone in the market.

  • 10 HP Left and 1 Dell left

    • Still around 10 left, if 147 sold is 93% sold

  • Dell is gone.

  • -4

Do i need a laptop? No
    I have a desktop and an S7
What do i need a laptop for ??? Hmmm

    • so u dont need a laptop but decided to click on the laptop deal??? Hmmm

      • Hehe its such a good deal and i am trying to resist buying something i dont have a need for

        • I'm in a same boat, have a pretty solid Desktop and a Macbook. But it's such a great deal. Very tempted

        • +1

          @OzSikhs: do it doooooo it

        • +1

@OzSikhs: Same here. Glad it expired :)

  • Is the screen any good or is it like a cheap laptop?

    • +2

Entire laptop is cheaper than money sucking "flagship" smartphones with ultra crazy HD screens.
      Have real expectations.

got this one, which is better! At least for my needs!

        • That processor is really inferior. The iGPu too. Also no Bluetooth 4.2 and low , ram which isn't ddr4. Only thing is 1080p screen. I cant believe a Laptop has to sacrifice so much horsepower for a 1080p screen lol.

        • @Ryxxi: and 11 inch screen

        • @Ryxxi:

The M3 core has served me perfect! I want it for browsing, writing and reading. Plus, watching videos and running some apps. And the screen being 11.6 inch is good coz it makes easy to carry around. I place a lot of importance on the quality of the screen, which this laptop has! Am a tiny bit worried for the keyboard but this is a signature pc, so it needs to be fine. Also, it is 2 in 1, which is great!

All these reasons (for me) make this option better than the HP offering.

        • @NickosFoivos: Shud have bought a chrome book or something for around $200 for browsing.

        • @Ryxxi:

I am not a tech guru but chromebooks need to be on the internet for most of its use. Plus, very limited and so not nice.

Anyways, I feel for usability, this yoga is better. But if you are after horsepower and don't mind missing out on a good (touch)screen, then this HP is your best bet.

  • This is an exceptional deal. My lenovo with the same specs except a SSD, and touch screen. Was 1100 last June.

  • Thanks OP

  • Out of stock ?

    • +2

not yet. Last checked 12 midnight AEST.

      • it was out of stock for a short while and then quickly stock level went up

      • 115 sold solid deal throw a cheap ssd and rocket mode

  • thanks Op! Been looking for an affordable laptop to switch out for my gaming pc to play on my 4K TV.

  • How's the dell compare to the hp? Gonna have to stay up to 2am waiting for stock of dell to come back

    • +1

I think the HP is superior, but the DELL has a touch screen.

      • Thanks, not really a fan of touch screens anyway, is it a lot more superior or just a little

        • +1

Yes a lot better processor, go for HP

        • +1

If I was buying for myself, out of the two - I would pick the HP. Having said that, my brother bought the DELL for himself and the HP for his wife. He has never owned a computer before and really wanted a touchscreen. I told him to grab two of the HP.

      • I hate fingerprints so yeah

  • +1

Damnnn, this is so tempting- only if it had a dedicated gpu(even an entry level one)

  • Thanks OP, about time I replaced my $369 Lenovo from this deal

  • What's a decent ssd to throw at this beast? 😉

    • crucial ones. 275g/525gb.

      • They got 7mm and 9.5mm do you know which one I need?

        • buy the 7mm on you cann just put some plastic under it if its too thin. But if you buy 9.5mm and the slot is only 7mm you wont be able to fit the ssd. am p sure hdd's are 9.5mm. But just incase. The 7mm ones normally come with an adapter to convert them to 9mm.

  • I got one HP. Thanks OP

  • +1

Just buy this laptop before oos lol.I have waited for 5 years to find a $400 laptop with i3+processor. I hope they have stock ..its a really good deal. 6gen i5 for $400..ONLY bad thing about this is the joke of a screen resolution.

  • Crucial MX300 275GB SSD for $124 @ Futu Online eBay, is this ssd compatible with this laptop?

    • should be.

      • Just a warning, Might not be a easy task to swap out the drive. The cover is hard latched into the top part.

  • There is no where to pick up the HP laptop from, is there? I'm flying overseas on saturday so even if i order it right now, no way it gets delivered by friday night :(

    • Actually, mine took less than 24hours of delivery!

  • -1

    Awful screen

  • Does anyone know if all 2.5" SSD's are compatible with this? Also, is there a second RAM slot? Thanks in advance!

  • Still mulling over the HP laptop. Been looking for a laptop at around this price for a few months now, will I get any better? Even at $500? Would have purchased last night @ $425 but was asleep.

    Thanks.

    • +2

I don't think you will find a similar deal soon. Most likely they are clearing old stock.

  • While checking out, it says code expired for "CHILLY" and Checkout Price is $499
    Am I missing something?

    • +1

Chilly code expired @ 2am. Can still get for $499.

  • Damn…this has just gone up to $599 I was just about to buy and then I noticed a price change in the last 5 minutes.
    What an idiot. :(:(:(

    • wow that's ridiculous, from 424 to 599 in a few hours

      • Well technically it went from $499 to $599

  • morning price was $499. now $599! does the site use some kind of surge pricing based on visits?

    • +1

94% of stock has been sold so I think they're just trying to get as much money as possible for the last few bits.

for those looking for cheap laptops with SSD's, there is still the CRACKA20 code which can be applied on the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series Ozbargain member TrulyUnicorn reviewed it too with photos showing the internals and upgrading process

this deal will end quite soon.

      • I asked in a find me a bargain post how I can get a desktop instead as they don't seem to be much posted on ozB. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/310947. seeing I use it at home mostly and am retired I thought a good desktop should be cheaper and better specced than an equivalently powered laptop but am not sure where to get a good offer.

      • Nice laptop but I'm looking for a 15.6 inch with a DVD drive.

    • Does this mean I have to pay them back the $100 (Logic from some ozb users. Lmao)?!? But yea be careful when spending big $$ on ebay.

      • Which do you guys think is better:

HP Pavilion 15-Aw004au Notebook $749 Less $75 Pre Paid Gift Card Less $100 AmEx Deal

        Or

Lenovo IdeaPad 110 (AMD A6, 15.6", 8GB, 1TB HDD) Harvey Norman $497 (Was $698) Less $50 if You Activated The AmEx Deal

Or how does does compare with the HP model in this post?

        • @treeman: I'd stay away from Non Ryzen AMD CPU's. Probably wait for another deal. Ebay said there will be deals all month.

        • @treeman:

If your budget is going to be anywhere near $700, you are better off waiting for a Lenovo E470 or E570 deal. They are usually configured with full HD IPS displays.

I can't recommend a 1366 x 768 display for more than $600 in this day and age (unless you are visually impaired, in which case low res displays are preferable). Especially when Chinese windows tablets are all using full HD and sometimes 2k displays.

        • @scrimshaw:

          Did you see this one:

          http://h20386.www2.hp.com/AustraliaStore/Merch/Product.aspx?…

          They quoted me $814 less $100 $75?

        • +1

          @treeman:

I wouldn't buy it even for $650, but that's just my kind of taste. Don't keep your expectations too high for this laptop.

The original $1000 price tag is extremely inflated. This sells for $869 from other stores, meaning that the 800 plus they quoted you is basically not a bargain price at all. Don't get too excited about that!!!

        • @scrimshaw:

My budget is probably $600 but would stretch for $700 given the right deal.

I am looking for 15.6 inch, dvd drive, a laptop that should last 4-5 years. Mainly for browsing/office/photo editing/video editing as a hobby.

Looking at the Lenovo's they don't really seem within my price range, nor do they seem within my specs that I'm looking for.

I see I can get the HP Pavilion 15-Aw004au Notebook $749 Less $75 Pre Paid Gift Card Less $100 AmEx Deal for a total of $574 less another $20 from cashrewards.
          But you still think no?

        • +1

          @treeman:

Not yet. I'd wait for Hump Month deals. Every Wednesday of this month there is a deal.

That being said have you ever checked out the Dell Outlet? It refills every start of the week.

        • @scrimshaw:

I have but not religiously at the start of the week.
          What time and day.

  • +2

Just received mine, forget swapping the hdd to ssd btw. Its not easily accessible. You have to take the whole thing apart instead of just the back cover.

    • That was quick! Damn so bummed I missed out!

      • They prob have a warehouse in every state. Got mine from oakleigh south in Vic. Sent yesterday, got it today. Too bad its not as easy as my Lenovo E340 to change ram/hdd.

        • +1

it's coming from Synnex,92 Carroll Rd, Oakleigh South VIC 3167.

    • Received mine today as well, quite impressed.

      • See above any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • I've received it. It's good for the money I spent but I wouldn't pay anything more than $600 for it. I.e. screen resolution and build quality are very average.

    • Thanks OP.

  • Not overly impressed with this, very very cheap build. Screen is awful, but it does well for downloading (wireless ac). Though't i'd be able to whack in SSD but maybe not…
    Ok purchase overall.

    • Yeap… that's what I mean by 'low cost consumer grade' stuff. Its the stuff that normally belongs in a Harvey Norman store, it sells itself using specifications to people who think bigger numbers means better things.

If you want your device to last you're going to have to get a business grade device. (but also pay about twice or thrice as much)

      • If there's a way of adding an SSD (DVD to HDD caddy?), and hook it up to an external monitor and avoid banging it about, then it would be ok IMO.

        • I think so.

Though't i'd be able to whack in SSD but maybe not…

With HP's, the correct procedure to install a new drive involves taking off the top half of the laptop — usually in this order:

          battery
          optical drive
          service door
          WLAN module
          memory module
          keyboard
          top cover

I can't locate the service manual… they might not have published it.
In any case, it's not so straightforward as many laptops :(

        • I was thinking more just swapping out the DVD drive for a HDD caddy (just did a quick search on ebay), to avoid all that taking apart! This way, can keep the 1tb for media after cloning to the new SSD in the caddy and setting to boot?

Similar to this (https://www.amazon.com/12-7mm-Drive-Pavilion-AGPtek-reader/d…) but need it for the specific model HP 15-ay070TU

        • @Bobby123:

yeap. I don't know what parts you'd need. You'd possibly need to take apart your laptop to get the optical disk bay out, and then compare the part numbers to work out if you have 12.7mm or 9.5mm height slot.

        • Thanks, was thinking i'd have to do that!
