Desktop PC for Home and Light Business Use

I retired before I could become a tech savvy guy. came back from Malaysia. It seems better to buy tech from here unless you know exactly what quality and product you are getting. I need to buy a PC as a laptop will be wasted when its main use is at home. Have seen lenovo and the tech recommended the V small factor with 256Gb for $800 offer which expired I think. Are there better ways to get a laptop or other brands I can get in Melbourne? or Online? what would be my best value for money? future proof? good built options which are cheaper? I cannot put these things together so I need a fully built model with windows etc

Personally, I'd go for an older small form PC and up grade the HDD —> SSD (keep the HDD as a secondary/storage. And upgrade ram to 12 or 16gb.

My 8 year old hard-rubbish-collection home desktop is like this and out performs the 2 year old desktop at work. I telecommute 2 days a week and get frustrated with the slowness of my pc at work.

Can also highly recommend older, ex-lease systems. Something like this with a 256GB SSD and Windows 10P already installed is a pretty good option IMO (most come with no OS or W7P) so there's no need to waste time tinkering.

Get a tablet. Best decision I ever made. Don't need no pc anymore.

I find that tablets are terrible for things like copy/paste.

      • That is true they still haven't optimized copying and pasting..yet

But in time it will become better still early days for tablets imho.. still haven't reached full potential but what we have do far is really so great.

        • Pretty sure OP wants to buy one now, not some vague time in the future.

we are lloking at getting a mobile fone which does 4g as well. will ask in another post what is the best value for money fone which does productivity apps well, not flagship gimmicks I don't need. not sure if there are tablets which also allow calls to be made here.

but prefer a pc for home use as it shd b more powerful than the laptops even, and the notebooks, or tablets.

Im struggling to keep up with tech. so pc with power and win 7 or 10 may be good enough till I upgrade

  • Unless you already have a monitor, mouse and keyboard a laptop or tablet will probably be cheaper.

    • monito - hope to use my old samsung laptop for that
      mouse - many
      keyboard - 1

For use like that you need at least a new i9 and 1080Ti. You could get away with 32gb ram but I'd recommend 64gb ram for safety.

  • the lenovo tech though for basic home use with some surfing and basic productive functions [office] the V series desktops with 256 ssd would be good.
