Hong Kong Kitchen Dim Sum Kitchen - SIU MAI - $2.50 (Normally $5.50) @ COLES

50

Someone posted a deal for the terrible dim sims currently on sale at Woolies for $2.75
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/310205

If you paid me $2.75 to eat those Woolies ones I wouldn't do it. They are truly terrible.

These Coles Siu Mai are actually made by the same company "Hong Kong Kitchen" but they taste taste great.
Honestly buy one of each from Coles and Woolies and test them for yourself…

Normally $5.50 per packet at Coles. This week only $2.50!

    dim sims currently on sale at Woolies for $2.75

    These ones are only 200g, the ones at Woolies are over 500g…

      Yeah over 500g of excrement…

      • Made by the same company…

        • +1

          Yes, as I pointed out in the original post….

          Seriously JV try them both….

          Seriously JV try them both….

          I'd rather go out and eat some real ones…

          @jv:

          I'd be interested to compare the ingredients of the two to see the differences, but I dont wanna buy the Woolies ones because honestly they aren't fit for consumption by my dog. I'd only buy them for my ex-wife and her mother….

          Maybe someone who likes the Woolies version can post their ingredients here.

          The Coles version are:
          Pork Shoulder Fillets, Mushroom, Prawns, Vegetable Oil, Sugar, Salt, MSG, Soy Sauce, Oyster Sauce, Pepper, Flour, Food Colour Tartrazine, Water.

          @GreatWhiteHunter:

          Tartrazine

          "Not recommended for consumption by children."

          @jv:
          Pretty sure MSG would have a similar rating…

          Given tartrazine is used in fruit cordial, coloured fizzy drinks, instant puddings, cake mixes, custard powder, soups, ice cream, ice lollies, sweets, chewing gum, jam, jelly, marmalade, mustard, yoghurt and many convenience foods I think its pretty likely a lot of kids consume it very regularly….

          @GreatWhiteHunter: No, MSG allergy is caused by placebo.

  • I guess at 2.5 times the price you would hope there would be something worth paying the difference! Which I guess is better than the normal price.

    It has always intrigued me that all the Coles range are 200g and the Woolies ones are bigger. Like the BBQ pork buns 200g vs 320g but similar packaging.

      all the Coles range are 200g and the Woolies ones are bigger.

      That's how they get the prices, down, down, prices are down…..

      • Wrong, wrong that is so wrong! :)

  • Loved these with some mushroom soy I'd eat them all the time. But all of a sudden I kept getting gristle and the taste went down. I think they must have lowered their standards to match these constant cheap prices.

    I see these on sale now and I just think of the good times… :(

  • Got a couple packs to try about a month ago when they were on sale. Won't get them again. Nothing like the real thing apart from shape. Strong meaty flavour and dense processed meat construction. Not very enjoyable for me personally. YMMV. I mean, the colour was BROWN. Pork I eat, and siu mai I eat at other times is far more white.
