$300 drop on both JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys, nearly $100 cheaper than a year ago. With Arlo, the cameras are battery powered so much easier to install.

wow how long do batteries last with cameras running 24/7 or are they just motion activated?
I just watched a review. Seems like 4-6 months depending on activity. It is only motion activated instead of continuous recording.
Great concept. Just sucks that:
And after some time you have to pay for the cloud
no entirely true, once in the cloud you can manually save them…
FYI You can get free for up to 5 camera, but the video only being stored in the cloud for 7 days…
What I meant was, there's no option of saving them locally exclusively. It creates the following problems:
Arlo base their quoted battery life on something like 4 mins per day live view or recording.
If you want a lot more than this it won't last long.
I don't mind, most of my camera are facing outdoor…
Not everything is about you.
Wait for the spider to build a web in front of the camera and the battery will drain overnight.
You forgot to start your quote with 'Confucius say'
That's because of the new "pro version which can store locally. Price will drop even further but stock will get harder to find

Many reports of these units chewing through batteries at a rapid rate.
I've had mine for 5 months now - only had to replace the batteries on the camera the the front door. The rest are still at 60% or higher.
These are not designed for 24/7 use. If you only use them to monitor front door, and back door, then they should last you quite a long time.
From the forum… Camera is good but not the battery.

this is the old model. Will wait for the price drop of current model
There is a new model coming out soon too. Will wait for the price drop on that model in 2018.
Can it use rechargeable batteries like this one https://www.jaycar.com.au/rechargeable-3v-lithium-ion-cr123a… ?

2 camera setup for $268 20mnths ago.
I have moved away from the CR123 batteries.
16 x rechargeables have been used and their cycle life depleted.
Here is my DC power pack hack/ work around.
(5.3v x 2A - 27% battery)
(6v x 2A - 100% battery)
No more battery changes required
No holes

4x aligator clips -$1
Flat cables from an old pc m'board $0
Female dc socket -$0.25
Dc pack 6v x 2amp - $6
Clipsal 413qc quick connect - freebie
Fun lil project
That defeat the purpose, you could of bought a high quality poe camera for price you invested.
Please show me the cameras you are talking about; very interested.
The last time I checked HIKvision setup would have cost more than $270+
I can't run Cat5 from where I want to place cameras; but have GPO's i can tap into behind the plaster stud walls.
All will be concealed.
I used https://www.aliexpress.com/item/HIK-1080P-Full-HD-4MP-Multi-… x2.
3mp cameras, cost me under $200 AUD.
@boomramada:
Receiver cost?
Receiver ? you don't need a receiver. Each camera has its own web interface to set up the notifications etc.
You can use the mobile app to receive images or video on trigger events.
Or save to a network drive, email etc. I setup them to store in my network drive, and email me the trigger event.
If you want to continues recording, then you can buy a DVR. I haven't got one, don't need one yet.
Icic…
Ill look into it if i need another camera.
But I can't run data cable from entry door to study (location of router)
I wanted a DVR setup… settled for Arlo Netgear as it is super easy to get working.
In my view, key point of Arlo is totally wireless and fully portable. Its good to keep eye on things mainly inside of the house.
But what I wanted was a weather proof camera outside so those POI camera helped me. It was cheaper to put a cat5 than adding a extra power connection for me.
These camera can powered by traditional power supplies as well, no need to be POE. And 3MP not 1MP.
I bought these wanting the ease of setup with no wires. Worked great for a while till batteries needed replacment.
Are you saying these arlos are 1mp?
(1280x720 is the only info i can find)
The powerpoint quick connect costs around $7. (Not expensive)
I don't have the luxury of running a pc 24/7 or a network.
The netgear arlo app is pretty easy to use and setup.
Hey OP. Why poor man's version? If you're happy to PM me, I'd be interested to know a bit about your setup - including what cameras you are using.
I like this part of the Zoneminder page -
"Windows- ZoneMinder does not run on any, and is incompatible with all, versions of Windows. We have no plans to support Windows."
I've used Motion before on Ubuntu - just with a basic Webcam in our lounge room - with motion detection and uploading automatically to Dropbox. Did what I needed it to. Could store images where I wanted and keep as long as I wanted.
Currently using a D-link night vision camera with Android app as a baby monitor - and it has been previously deployed outside at night with motion detection.
Both d-Link and webcam need to be plugged in. Horses for courses I suppose.
Had been cheaper before with the bonus camera via redemption

Damn, it uses CR123 batteries. If only it used AA batteries.
