    thanks TA!
I wish it comes with 16GB ram

    • Pretty easy to install your own RAM upgrade :)

    • it was there few weeks back for 950, I bought one, but i'd say 16GB was a bit overkill for me..wish I had an option of 8GB back then!

  • +2

Man my macbook air display port just shat itself… this could be a worth replacement!

  • +1

These things are always significantly cheaper than an equivalent specced 2-in-1.

    Is this better to have?

Only thing is, it's not easy on the eyes.

  • +3

For ref: Weight Starting at 1.87 kg

    • That's a little chunky

  • Friend is looking for a cheap laptop that can play Dota2.
Anyone know how the 940mx will handle Dota2?

    • +2

DOTA2 runs even on potato computers, 940mx is capable of DOTA.

    • +2

I bought a Lenovo y555 five years ago and it plays Dota fine.

45 fps at higher graphics settings, but medium is acceptable at 90 fps. Some people would say 45 fps is enough but they probably think 100 ping is ok too. Many games benchmarked on the link.

      • -1

What type of games do you play? Goodness, even fps games doesn't require a full 60fps to play on a competitive level, forget a top down perspective moba. Sure, it may give you 1 frame advantage in reaction speed, but how many people can really capitalise on that?

      • This one likely has the GDDR5 version of 940MX which is considerably faster (can't remember exactly but around 20%). It's closer to a 950M.

        • +3

Only the DDR3 version according to the spec page.

      • -1

lol I play almost exclusively American servers on most games.

250-300ping isn't even that bad and we're talking tactical shooters with that.

    • It should get 60fps at 1080 borderless window with rendering 100% and everything else off/low. Dota is a very CPU game, but the 7500u should handle it ok.

  • -1

How good is a yoga 710 with the following specs:
    14" FHD Touchscreen
    7th gen i7-7500U
GTX 940 MX 2GB Graphics Card
8GB RAM (not sure what type)
    256GB SSD
    for $1182?

    • Link?

      • its a deal i got a while back from knowing someone who works at Lenovo. The person is near the top in terms of position but apparently the deal is the same even regardless of how much influence you have.

        • +9

          link?

  • those spec with that price is just unreal. i am so attempted. yet i really want to wait for the new Surface pro.

i know they are different. But if you talk price-value(consider both form factor and size/mobility), this one is a killer.

just unreal price for this spec man.

    • just go for this one. surface isnt that good anyway, and i think i heard it is coming with some new operating system that doesn't let you download apps or change default browser etc.

      • That's for the Surface Laptop, not Surface Pro. Also, they are going to provide a free upgrade to full Windows 10 Pro from the Student version this year.

        https://www.theverge.com/2017/5/2/15519464/microsoft-surface…

        • Ah ok thanks for the clarification there

        • It's not a Student version. It's just "S".

      • I think I still would go for the SF Pro form factor.

the fact that lighter/smaller = more likely to carry out with me is so important to me.

although the E470 is nowhere near heavy. but I wish it has flip screen can do 360 like yoga.

at the end of the day, the spec is not as important as desktop PC does.

I will wait for the new SF battery test.(coz the SF4 just not amazing…..its ok..but I don't want to spend 1.5k on OK product.)

        • Eh, you'll lose interest in the whole flip screen thing quickly. You become too lazy to pop up your laptop lol.

But yeah, I honestly think weight can really affect someone's desire to carry it around.

        • The Surface Pro is easily more than double the price of this. Base i5 model is $1500 + type cover $200 + Pen $100 + dock because it only has 1 USB port $100-$300 and you'll be looking at $1900 minimum.

        • @Wonderfool:so true. that is what happened to my macbook pro 15". never had a laptop before, and i bought it for study, but i just dislike carrying it, and try to not carry it if the day of school doesnt need it…..

  • +4

      • Ooh, you can spec an OLED panel on that laptop (not in the above config). Pretty cool.

  • +1

Anyone who owns Lenovo, would you recommend it compare with others?
I read from productreview site and most people not happy, but I really need a laptop since I'm moving out and this price is tempting with good specs.

    • +3

I got the E470 from a previous easter deal. It's not bad for work on the fly and i got a bit better specs than this deal for about 50-100 bucks more. I'm changing over from a Mac so it's a bit jarring but otherwise it's (profanity) blazing. Have not had any issues in the few weeks i've owned this baby.

    • +1

I only have a Desktop Lenovo. It is loaded with bloatware and runs very choppy.

    • +1

I've bought an E460 about 9 months ago. It's pretty good really. Quite solid. We have cheaper Acer and HP laptops at work and the Lenovo definitely feels more solid and built better. Also pretty good trackpad and keyboard.
Runs quick fast and always performs trouble free for me.

I have a mac too and really like their build quality. I quite happily use the Lenovo most time instead due to the HD screen and more ports etc and never feel like I'm using a cheap laptop.

    • +2

I got a T460S i5 on an earlier deal (touchscreen, fingerprint reader, smartcard reader etc) and I love it. It's light, very fast to boot (M.2 SSD) and has had no problems. It didn't come with any bloatware either.

    • I have T460S

      Love it, quick, nice keyboard.

The only thing is the battery life, only last for 3-4 hours max.

  • Can someone tell me what would be the price of MS Office for general use?

  • I'm looking at around ~30 laptops for a business and was going to go for the HP EliteBook 840 G4.

This laptop/deal is far, far cheaper and has an i7?! Am I missing something? Why is this?

    • I believe business deals come with some level of after sales support that private deals dont? TBH i'd probably just get 30 of these but im no businessman.

    • Should call them and ask for more better deal + support + warranty. Support + warranty are the important factors.

      • HP and HPe have amazing warranty for business products, particularly their carepacks. Onsite technicians are normally standard and 4 hour parts.

        • They do, but…HP :/

    • +1

I've heard non-stop good things about the 840 G4 and similar models from business users who have their employees running them. Based off that and better warranty support I would recommend the HP.

      • Cheers buddy; I was tossing up between those and the Lenovo T740's but the HP's seem a better bet; as long as I can find ones with IPS screens.

      • We use them and roll them out to our client. A government agency. They're OK. Not too many issues, but they're not amazing. The Warranty support is quite good, but I dare say we pay a premium for it.
I'd say the Lenovos are a better machine, but don't have any real issues with the HPs.

  • TA - Can you work your magic to bring one of 15.6" laptop in deal

  • Gaming OK on this?

    • +1

      Just OK.

      • thanks

  • How does this compare to a Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air ? Seems very similar.

    • +2

this is not ultrabook, its thicker and heavier.

It does have more IO ports though, and a battery that can be user replaced, as well as RAM.

Mi Air ultrabook has soldered memory, so you're stuck with whatever you've purchased. Upside? The Xiaomi actually has a better GPU thanks to it's use of GDDR5 memory.
Lenovo has opted for slower DDR3 so the graphics memory does have a slight disadvantage.

Mi Air has slightly smaller battery (40 whr) and Lenovo has 45 whr.

Mi Air also has a display that flickers when brightness is not set at full. This is called PWM flickering — it's a trick used by some displays to dim the screen, by quickly switching the backlight on and off. The display flickers at 50hz on the Xiaomi which can cause some eyestrain. The Lenovo does not use PWM and thus doesn't flicker.

      • Really? I never realise that it flickers. I'm gonna try to focus extra hard to spot it lol.

      • The display flickers at 50hz on the Xiaomi which can cause some eyestrain.

That's a dealbreaker right there. Thanks for warning me.

  • Anyone had any experience upgrading batteries after purchase? The 3 cell should be fine, but the option to upgrade later would be the clincher!

  • Thanks TA. I have just ordered a laptop for my better half. Her old PC is slow as a dog so perfect time for an upgrade. I don't even bother looking at other laptop deals based on the votes gathered already.

  • +6

if I type in "TA-E470-200", will I get it for $200 instead?

    reverse engineering a deal here

  • Tfyi: they send stock directly from china. They told me 2 weeks to deliver my laptop

    • says "Ships in 2 business days"?

      • I bought ThinkPad E570p on friday. Got call today amd they said 2 weeks. They shipping from china ;(

        • Ah- That sucks!
I would cancel mine if it took longer than advertised

        • +1

@r0xz: "Ships in 2 business days" means that it leaves the factory in China in 2 business days. Lenovo deliveries are slow and the tracking is complete rubbish.

        • @worldwidehappiness: would they allow to cancel order or do they expect you to know it's their standard handling time?

        • +1

@worldwidehappiness: Trust me - it does not ship in 2 days. I ordered a E570 (previous deal) on 17/05, and it allegedly shipped on 22/05, but supposedly only arrived in Australia on 26/05 (4 day flight from China ?), and is still not "out for delivery" yet (4 days later).

So bargain on at least 2 weeks to receive it.

        • @r0xz: I don't know if you can cancel. Phone them or email them. I think it's 14 days return without questions, IIRC.

        • +1

          @worldwidehappiness:

I just received my order. Looks like this one is in stock!

          The tracking is shit btw.

    • I ordered my laptop on Tuesday, it arrived today. 2 day shipping to Sydney - I am impressed!

  • The machine ships in2 business days and other 5 business days for delivery. If the delivery is to a non metropolitan area it may take upto 2 weeks.

  • Is the actual display itself 14" or is that the measurement from one edge of bezel to the other?

  • 570 - 200 extra but 15.6", 16gb Ram and 950 vid card… Much difference between 940 and 950?

  • +1

TA any Yoga deals with dGPU?

    • This has a dGPU, just not a great one.

      • i am aware, but I just don't like the design that much :/

  • TA, how about a deal for a 'desktop replacement' laptop, a high specced 17in FHD with SSD and graphic grunt, plus mech HDDfor storage. Not necessarily a gamer kit but fast unit for running a linux VM, and Adobe suite.

Will pick out a specific Lenovo unit for suggestion later

    • +2

Metabox is probably what you are looking for.

  • Is there space for 2nd HDD in this? My friend looking at it, seems to say same pcie SSD as my e570 but disassembly guide I found looks like it has 2.5" ssd

    • +1

The SSD is specified as SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s: 256 GB OPAL2, so it has a SATA interface (not PCIe).

Also, page 8 of the User Guide specifies one 2.5-inch form factor storage device (for 7mm or 9.5mm HDD, or SSD).

  • +1

Does it feel much different between 14 and 15.6 inch screen size?
Never own a laptop since I have always been using desktop

    • +1

It feels about 1.6" bigger. Does that make any sense?

    • +1

There's a huge difference between 13" and 15". After moving up in size, I never want to go back. But 14 to 15, not sure if it's so noticeable. Depends how many programs you have on at once. Some people just have Word and one or two browser tabs, so they don't need much screen space.

  • Thanks, got the 3 Years On-site + Premier Support for $109.45 as well. Used DEALS code.

  • How does this compare to a Dell xps 13?

    • +1

      It's about $1000 dollars cheaper.

    • +1

Not as small or thin obviously. That one is more premium and portable.

  • Any bargain for the 16gb RAM version, TA?

  • Can I claim GST if going overseas?

  • ordered this on Tuesday 30 May 2017
received just now Thursday 01 June 2017 12pm

    weight is 1.87kg

    not bad little machine

  • So i purchased my E470 in one of the previous deals, the first unit i received was DOA and was powering off randomly, when picked up or moved… shit happens, manufacturing defect.

Fast forward another 3 and a bit weeks to process the DOA return and receive a new unit, process was not exactly smooth…

talk to support, get DOA approval, fill out a form, email it off to a specific DOA team to actioned, wait 5 days for them to respond, freight labels for return sent via email, call to book collection with StarTrack. Replacement was sent with the standard 2 week time frame after about a 1 week delay in getting everything rolling. Very segmented process… i dunno, surely they could do better for a DOA situation.

Anyway replacement seems ok so far, a bit of back-light bleeding but i can't be bothered returning.

However my originally purchased 2 Year NBD on site warranty has not been carried over to the new replacement unit which shows only the standard 1 year return to depot.

So now i have to chase them up for getting that corrected.

Bit of a stuff around so far…. Not a fan of Lenovo so far.
