  • Bought my Diamond 10 speakers from them in 2013, can't go wrong with these guys.

This got me thinking about the 80's when I owned a pair of Wharfedale Teesdale loudspeakers (Actually made in a factory near Shipley, Yorkshire, UK from memory). The Wharfedale brand is now part of the Chinese manufacturing giant called IAG (Owners and producers of Mission, Quad, Wharfedale, audio Lab and Castle Acoustics) from their factory in Shenzhen, China. They make their own parts, even making their own wire for use in the speakers.
I assume that the Diamond 250's come out of the same Chinese production factory? (I am not knocking the fact that they are no longer European made, I was also surprised to see that Mission Speakers are now produced in China too)

This unit is currently also available at 40% off at AV Revolution for $1679.99 (40% off may be from the distributor). JB have not taken 40% off their stock as yet.

  • Is there a way for me to get (not these) some ceiling mounted speakers that I can independently control?

I would need to but 10-12 speakers (a couple for outside, a couple for media room, 4 for main living area, 1 for each bedroom).

I want to be able to play spotify in any room I want (or multiple rooms) but not every room all at once.

How do I go about this?

    Cheers!

    • You will need an sonos/Heos or something similar amp per zone which can become quite pricey.

      • Can i independently turn the sound of then rather than Sonos reach room?

Or if i go ceiling mounted is it pretty much all on or all off?

        • It will be either on or off each room

        • @atish digitalcinema:

          Im confused.

Im not too good at this stuff.

I want to be able to power each section of the house separately. But I don't want to spend a fortune.

Can I put the speakers on a switch and just select which switches I want on at any given time?

For example if Im having a party and have the speakers on in the entire house then the kids go to bed I can turn the speakers off in the kids room and leave the living room and outdoor speakers on.

    You couldn't read the body?

  • Thank you for this post OP. I currently use a Pioneer beginning kit which came with a 5.1 amp and some small bookshelf speakers. I've been using it for around 3 years now and it's well suited to the small room I am in, but of late I had been thinking of at least a partial upgrade.

So I bought the Diamond 220. Just a pair for now, I'll update the other speakers in stages (Ozbargain leaves a brother broke…).

In any case, thank you for the timely post. I'll just have to explain to a few people why I can't afford movies for a while…

    Sincerely.

    • Thanks for your purchase. These speakers are definitely good value

  • I currently have the following kit:

    1 x Denon AVR-X3300W
    2 x Yamaha NS-555 Floor standing speakers
    1 x Yamaha YST-RSW300 Subwoofer 250w
    1 x Yamaha NS-C444 Centre Speaker
    2 x Yamaha NS-IC600 2-Way In-Ceiling Speakers

Looking at the Diamond 250 and Diamond 220C. Gear is in a big room. Watch movies mainly then TV and Music..

Would these speakers be a step up over the Yamaha gear?

    Thanks

    • From what I can tell, this model as most others they make are part of a full HT pack that they sell along with electronics, and made to a price point.

On paper the speakers are quite different.

Diamonds are slightly more efficient and have custom made components as you know including Kevlar drivers, vs. plain old Mica drivers that come out of a generic factory.

The Yamaha have significantly higher top end rolloff, but that is expected as it is a horn loaded tweeter.

I can’t actually imagine that they are anywhere close to the performance of the Diamond speakers

  • Rep - why is the 240c not 40% off?

  • Would my Denon avr-x2200w receiver be able to drive the 250's or is it under powered?

I believe these are the right specs but i'm not sure which numbers I should be looking at:

    Number of Power Amps
    7

    Power Output (8 ohm, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.08% 2ch Drive)
    95 W

    Power Output (8 ohm, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.05% 2ch Drive)
    _

    Power Output (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 0.7% 2ch Drive)
    125 W

    Power Output (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 10% 1ch Drive)
    185 W

    • Power Output (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 0.7% 2ch Drive)
      125 W

  • cheers just bought the Diamond 220s.

  • I'm looking to buy new set of speakers. But aren't most of the Wharfedale speakers listed in the post launched around 10 years back? Is it wise to invest in such old speakers, or rather go for the newer ones?
