Background: The seventh vintage of this wine - the "Lake Doctor" refers to the afternoon breeze coming off Lake Alexandrina is found to be reviving for both the vines and the vignerons.
Colour: Deep purple
Nose: Pepper, spice and apricot hints. Plum pudding and blackberry pie, with rose petals and a waft of violets
Palate: Juicy, round blackberry with taut tannins, plus a full complement of juicy fruit flavour fanning out with rolling, soft and fine tannin. Malt, cedar and blackberry on the finish.
Highlights: The Lake Doctor's vineyard is located on an ancient alluvial plain, just upstream from the River Murray's sea mouth. Maritime red sands with a pre-Cambrian limestone base make an ideal grape-growing environment.
Winery Information: Zonte's Footstep was named after the original 19th Zante (a type of currant) vineyard, as the new plantings follow the same footprint as the vineyard. In 2003 Ben Riggs, Zar Brooks and a bunch of their mates joined forces to form Zonte's Footstep. Their vision? Create great wines at reasonable prices, and poke fun at each other whereever possible.
