  • How does Optus know when it was purchased?

    • I would imagine it gets activated at the time of purchase… similar to microsoft office

Don't know why someone negged you - some ozb users these days (since it's become more popular) are just absolute tools…. hate to imagine how they take on feedback to q's IRL without getting offended.

do these have to be connected to a computer? Or can a powerbank run these and you can use access wifi on your phone..?

    • I would also like to know this!

Must use PC or Mac. The USB will install the software and only then can you connect through the software.

      Wifi modems are independant.

  • This one looks like it's a USB version…so u will need to hook it to a laptop. If u want freedom…u will need to get a pocket 4g modem…

I thought you could use a powerbank after you set it up?

    Agree with siu_loong_bao

It looks like the incorrect tag is showing as the USB modem looks more like the Optus Huawei 4G USB Modem E3372, and not the E5331 Mini Wifi 3G modem.

OP may want to change the title of the modem model.

Can anyone confirm what the deal is? Definitely was not $69 for a E3372.

    • will do! thanks for checking!

  • The advantage of these is that you don't get WIFI interference. Someone microwaving their noodles won't bring down your connection. The disadvantage (having to hook into a computer) is pretty obvious. A lot of WIFI modems also work connected via USB though and that gives you the best of both worlds and makes this less attractive. (They're smaller, but so what). I don't know if any of the cheap modems do 5GHz but that would also help you avoid interference as microwaves don't clog that band.

  • The deal appears to be a 3G wifi modem model E5331. This is an old modem and may be difficult to find in stores.

Some comments above refer to this as a USB modem which it is not.

  • Data must be used within 2 weeks

  • Two in stock at Woolworths Rouse Hill, NSW an hour ago.

  • these are 3G I think
